AMERICAblog: Governor Schweitzer slammed McCain with one of the best lines of the night

I was REALLY impressed by Schweitzer. Not just his delivery but his message. Great speech!

Transcript for those who are at work please :)

I liked the whole speech. It would have been nice if instead of complaining that no one was going after McCain or Bush, the talking heads would have shut up for two seconds and actually showed one of the dozens of speeches going after Bush and McCain. But that would have detracted from the vapid, self-obsessive analysis of what Hillary was going to say and what that 'meant'.

Interesting how the pundity will dismiss these speeches with a casual hand wave and a "but no one saw them".
The media always finds itself blameless...Their own convention coverage decision to not really cover the convention is, in MSNBC punditry's own phrase, post rational. A poo fight from an unpottytrainable toddler.

EMGD has it right. MSNBC's " coverage" of the convention is a total joke with non-stop babble and few of the speeches. What can they be thinking? They just keep on talking and block out the actual events. Very poor coverage. It's great that PBS knows how to cover an event and limits commentary to in between the speakers. This is the opposite of WNBC with its all talking-heads all of the time.

Don't bother with any of the traditional media. Watch on C-SPAN. They don't have any commentary at all. For those of you that are at work, you can watch at cspan.org.

C-Span and PBS are the best. After the main speeches I turn to msnbc for Maddow and Olbermann.

    Great, great speech!
More or less proof that it is the "down to earth type people" that really project what America is all about. Definitely stimulates the drive for change and a vision of "Can Do".

Governor Strickland's speech was good too, but I'm biased because I'm from Ohio, and he's a personal friend. I liked the line that said GW was handed third base, and he stole second base; all with John McCain's help.

    A great line!

Does anyone have a link to the full transcript? I can't seem to find anything online except the pre-Convention release which seems a little different.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
I looked and I can't for sure recommend any of the transcripts I've found as being completely accurate. Just google 'Schweitzer speech transcript'. The top link goes to the general text. He focussed on energy and pointed out the disaster(s) that happened when failed energy executives were allowed to run our government.

You just have to see it.

For Crissake stop using the idiotic word "gaffe!" And yes he gave a good speech if a little folksy.

I thought Schweitzer was outstanding!! His animated delivery style was refreshing and he had some great lines! I actually enjoyed it more than Hillary's, because it was fun.

Schweitzer was awesome last night. Prairie populism at its finest

Schweitzer's speech was the only second the Kucinich's. I watched the coverage on C-SPAN from the start of the night and every speech was really good. This guy, Schweitzer, though I had never heard of and like Barack in 2004, he stuck out as a future star! He is as blunt in his assessment as Kucinich, except he has that natural western charm that is Biden-esque in it's delivery. He really has a talent I hope the DNC exploits every chance they get.

Btw- The clip cut off too soon. After that zinger, he went on to explain in every day language that even a brain dead troll could understand that the even if we drill every available spot, including offshore, we would only come up with 3% of the world's oil and we use 25%. Drilling is a loser's proposition, unless you are big oil. I hope you post the entire speech he gave as well as Kucinich's and Deval Patrick's.

I think Schweitzer would have been a good choice for Veep, but he didn't want to be considered, apparently.

Schweitzer gave a great, dramatic and exciting speech, energizing the crowd and directly attacking McCain. CNN even-- miracles never cease-- shut up for a few minutes and let the speech play out. But, I told my partner, let's flip over to the big three networks and see if they're showing it. NBC: nope. (Brian Williams was flapping his jaw about stuff everybody's heard eight million times already). ABC: nope (same thing as NBC, ignored the speech, offering instead obvious commentary that even folks who haven't paid much attention have already heard). CBS: nope (they had on a commercial for Late Night with David Letterman). MSNBC: as others have pointed out, were yammering away instead of covering the speech. Fox: I have no idea, as I wouldn't turn to Fox if it was the end of the world and they were the only station still broadcasting.

Talk about selectively shaping the coverage. They claim they want "red meat" but when real drama takes place at the convention, they usually refuse to cover it.
