AMERICAblog: Great new ad from the No on Prop 8 campaign -- and this campaign is making James Dobson cry

As an Atheist, as long as I still have my right to marry a tree, you con do what you want.
Gee, thanks D. Paul Montiero and Don Miller.
I guess I won't have to settle

It's an awesome ad and thank you to SLJ for helping on it.
This is it folks. This is the best ad out there and we need to fund putting it out there. How much airtime it gets between now and next Tuesday is dependent on how much money is raised in the next day. Otherwise that's it, and we've let the religious fundies swipe away our rights.

. Let's hope that Californians are put off by the tactics of these carpet-bagging religious fanatics. I believe the Obama landslide will carry the day. Fingers crossed, though.
Basically, the Mormon Church has spent tens of millions of dollars to REWRITE THE CALIFORNIA CONSTITUTION to enable discrimination.
Even if you don't care one way or another about "gay marriage" this proposition will do real damage to real people.
For instance, my brother Bill who has lived with his partner Larry for over 30 years.
The health insurance Bill gets through his job is relatively good -- although Larry has worked for the same firm for 35 years, it's a small business with a lousy plan.
If Larry gets sick, his healthcare will be substandard, but his partner of 33 years can't add Larry to his insurance.
Larry could die as blowback from Prop 8.
Larry is also 9 years older than Bill, but he can't even think about retirement, because then he'd have no healthcare at all.
This is just one real world example of how someone I love is being hurt by the bigots who want to pass Prop 8.
Experts agree that if Prop 8 is passed in California it would cripple gay marriage -- or even civil unions -- for the next decade.
DONATE ON PROP 8 -- FOR SOMEONE I LOVE , SOMEONE YOU LOVE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND FAIRNESS, (OR FOR SOMEONE YOU HATE, LIKE DOBSON):
I cry every time I think of a stupid asshole like Dobson having any kind of following at all.

Bill Clinton:
"This is Bill Clinton calling to ask you to vote NO on Proposition 8 on Tuesday, November 4th. Proposition 8 would use state law to single out one group of Californians to be treated differently -- discriminating against members of our family, our friends and our co-workers. If I know one thing about California, I know that is not what you're about. That is not what America is about. Please vote NO on 8. It's unfair and it's wrong. Thank you."
Clinton's recorded message went to millions of Californians overnight
still... thank you bill clinton for your kind words about my civil rights, you're still a rat bastard asshole however.

One slight advantage that the 'NO' forces have is that voters are generally inclined to vote against ballot initiatives. They usually mean a tax hike, or they are about some arcane aspect of municipal governance that only accountants understand. Voters are usually pissed off about one thing or another, so there's a predisposition to just say NO when given the opportunity. Hopefully this will play out to the advantage of the good guys in this case.

You bring up a great point. Historically that's been true.

Great ad! Who was the voiceover? It sounded like Samuel L. Jackson to me, but I could be wrong.
I just donated some more money! And I live in Texas! God only knows if we'll EVER get something like this here, but the more states that make it legal, and though I hate calling it this, "normal", the more it will become the norm around the country. And then maybe someday I can marry MY partner of almost 10 years and have the same rights as everyone else....
Come on California!! Don't let us down!! Don't let hate win!!

Is Palin going to show up, too? Maybe she and Joe the Plumber could put on a demonstration...
No, wait...isn't it Dobson that says grown men should shower with young boys to teach them about their penises?
These people are SO fucked up. But they would love to take away any rights they don't think YOU should have.

Joe,
I think you've got the numbers reversed. Andy at Towelroad has it 49% No and 44% Yes. It's still too close.

Every time I see Dobby on TV, my gaydar goes off. I am not sure why. But it goes off. I have always thought Dobson was a huge closet queen who simply is disgusted by his own feelings and desires. Get over yourself, girlfriend, come out of your sick closet, blow them hinges off with nuclear bombs, and breathe the fresh air of being out. Renounce thy evil ways of bigotry toward your brethren of the gay world. Of course your hate is probably about raising money so you can live in luxury. Lucifer has a special room for you in hell

and he advocates fathers taking showers with their sons.
actually, I'd rather it be found out that he's a pedophile than gay.
my apologies to any children out there.

Yes on 8 mailer received today (presumably sent to all non-Democrats in the state since neither my husband or I are and we both received one):
"I am not in favor of gay marriage..." Barack Obama, Hardball with Chris Matthews, MSNBC 4-2-08 'When asked to specifically define his views on marriage, Obama hasstated the he believes "that marriage is the union between a man and a woman." "Now, for me as a Christian, it's also a sacred union. God's in the mix," he added.' August 16, Saddleback Church Candidates Forum in California. Senator Joe Biden affirms his and Barack Obama's support for traditional marriage: "Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage. We don't support that." --Sen. Joe Biden, VP Debates, 10-02-08
Pity they're running so close with McCain in California at only 22% ahead that they couldn't have visibly distanced themselves from those statements. John, you've gotten way too soft on Obama since the nomination clinched. Your prophecies around the Donnie McClurkin incident are coming true in spades. And, yes, I will blame the Senator for Illinois if he carries California by damn near a quarter of the votes cast and Prop 8 wins. Tradition be damned, he's done exactly nothing to help defeat it, which as far as I'm concerned is the same thing as supporting it. <del>I'd settle for an oblique reference to using caution to amend a state constitution over the deafening silence</del>[added: my bad, he has apparently come out against Prop 8--why the fuck isn't this in hundred point type on every "No" mailer and ad instead of buried on the web?] (I'd even vote for him on Tuesday--he lost me back when Donnie took the stage and has not regained me). Oh, and Pastor Dockery, Pastor Smith-Zoe, and Bishop Green (on the flip side of the mailer), it's a damn good thing there is no hell, because if there were, there'd be a table reserved for the three of you in the smoking section. The spectacle of three presumably respectable African-American leaders advocating for separate but equal under the law is nauseating.

I'd love it if the blogs would cover "No on Amendment 2" in Florida. :( If this passes here...ugh, just ugh.

Hi, hope people, hawkseye? are still monitoring the comments even though it's been a day: I'm going to donate the $15.00 I just saved filling up my gas tank thanks to the oil industry's attempt at influencing the election (just like they did in 2006) but want to know if the matching offer is still valid. It would suck that my little contribution won't find a match.
Gee, thanks D. Paul Montiero and Don Miller.

NO ON PROP 8 -- FOR SOMEONE I LOVE
This may be a CA initiative, but it will have negative legal reprecussions nationally, if passed.
