AMERICAblog: Health care costs to increase for workers

  • Mister_E · 1 year ago
This is bull***t !!!! This is how McCain helps provide affordable healthcare coverage for almost all Americans? This plan will just make healthcare more unaffordable, especially for hard-working middle-class citizens, and, put health insurance out of the reach of the working poor, the sick, and the elderly. McCain sure does have a plan for healthcare reform, unfortunately for most Americans his healthcare plan won't even benefit them.

Republicans bitch and moan that they don't want Obama's healthcare plan because they don't want more tax dollars coming out of their paychecks to pay for it,but ,in the long run, they'll still be seeing a lot less of their paychecks to pay their health insurance premiums.

I have a very good HI plan through my employer. However, the premiums and co-pays have been increasing a lot and with the next open enrollment, my premiums will increase by 20% and my co-pays will double.

My new premium will be $60.00 per month for medical. Thankfully, my company picks up the additional $475.00 per month. My total monthly premium is $535.00 per month, which is a significant reduction since my employer has a huge pool of people that take the insurance. That means the total for the year in health premiums (never mind co-pays and dental) is $6420.00. McSame's HI credit would put me in the hole by $1420.00 *IF* I were to get the same premium as an individual instead of with the buying power of a block of people. And the chances of that happening are...?

Even if I deduct the $60.00 I am paying now as a wash, I am still at $5700.00 per year for HI. That puts me in the hole by $700.00 a year.

Again, that is IF the premium is the same, which is not going to happen.

Hey everybody- I suggest everyone try what I just did and spread the word to others to do the same. I am a single, 30 something woman in reasonably good health and I currently enjoy excellent, 100% employer provided healthcare. I have no initial deductible, I pay $5-$10 for prescription drugs, $10-$20 for office visits and I am fully covered for maternity, surgery, mental health, et cetera. Bottom line, to fully utilize my healthcare plan (actually USE the coverage) I spend a couple of hundred dollars per year max.

I just went to an insurance quote website and searched for an individual health care plan with a zero initial deductible. I found a plan that would require $20-$35 co-pays for office visits, a separate prescription drug deductible of $250 per year, then $15-$35 for prescriptions, a $450 per day co-pay for hospital stays for the first 5 days, a $450 co-pay for my first five pre-natal visits, a $450 per day co-pay (for first five days) for labor and delivery hospital stays, and a $400 co-pay for outpatient surgery ( I currently pay $0 for maternity, $100 for outpatient surgery and a $500 max hospital co-pay for non-maternity issues). The plan provides no mental health coverage and no dental care (which I currently have under my employer's plan).

In addition you have to apply for and be approved to receive the plan; I am guaranteed coverage under my employers plan . Given that I actually USE my health insurance I seriously doubt I would be approved for this private plan. I am not talking out of my ass on this one; several years ago I attempted to buy my own private health insurance when my previous employer's plan costs skyrocketed. I applied for coverage of my own that was similar to what I'd previously had and was refused because I had used prescription drugs and office visits more than the parameters of that plan allowed. The rest of the process of obtaining insurance was so impossible I simply found another job that offered better healthcare.

Anyway, the crappy, overpriced plan that I would probably be turned down for anyway would cost me $310 per month, or $3,720 per year- and that's JUST for the plan. That's REALLY NOT the change we need. Here's the website if you want to check it out yourself:

McCain is a Liar. Why not call a Liar a Liar? His health care plan is just another case of McCain / Palin 08 lying to you.

You are absolutely right ,DC. McCain is nothing but a lying S.O.B.,;he's just saying what the American public wants to hear ,so that he can try to look better than Obama. God forbid he wins the election,he will stick it too us where the sun don't shine and won't even use any lube.

I heard that McCain's real health care plan is to bring back the days of the Roman Colosseum but instead of feeding Christians (heavens no!) to the lions, he will feed American families to the lions.

Republican health care program: Don't get sick, if you do, go into the corner leave us alone and die.

Perfect. Right after McCain's health care adviser says we should stop calling the uninsured uninsured because they can "always just go to the ER." So sad and pathetic.

Before I took a soul-killing job in fnance to get health insurance for my famiily, we paid $24,000 a year in the private market. Hubby is 61, healthy except for the usual cholesteral and blood pressure pills that most older americans take, I am very healthy, and one healthy 6 year old girl. That is almost $40,000 pre-tax dollars.

It is good insurance, not as good as McCain's but good. His plan for healthcare should END his chances for President.

Obama in the debate needs to just say it: McCain will end your employer's health insurance and leave you helpless in the market.

The middle class and poor will think this $5,000 will be to help their current portion of the costs. Regan started this in 1980 when he allowed companies to walk away from paying for health care. It was part of his "trickle up program" and it worked perfectly. Companies dropped pension plans, contributiing to 401K plans and here we are 28 years later with more of the same from Mcain. Once the individuals are all responsible Health Companies will not be stopped in raising prices at will, dropping you when you get sick, etc. because you will be fighting by yourself. Now at least the companies help fight costs to keep their portion down. that will be gone. Thanks John, another plan brought to you be the Bible.

I'm not sure anyone knows about this part as well, but McCain plans tax individuals on any portion of health insurance that is paid by the employer! From the article:

"Last year, the employer-paid portion of a family plan averaged $8,824 per employee, according to Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonprofit health research group. Workers kicked in an additional $3,785 for such family coverage, the group said.

That means, under Mr. McCain's plan, an employee with a taxable income of, say, $50,000 last year, would have instead paid taxes on $58,824, after the company-paid premium amount was added on."

Not only will the tax credit not even cover a majority of the health insurance cost, more of our hard earned money will be taxed!

(sorry if this is a double post, my first post wasn't showing up)

Income tax on health insurace is only part of the tax increase under McCain's plan. Employer provided health care will also be subject to employment tax. On a $12,000 per year family plan, that's an extra $1836.00 per year in employment taxes (combined worker/ employer rate of 15.3%)
