AMERICAblog: Hey Rep. Kissell, can we have our $485,795 back?

  • Daniel Beck · 1 month ago
We want our money back!!!! Don't these freaking Dems realize that we can simply buy politicians and their votes these days!!!

Forget the fact that this bill is 2,000 pages of bloat and compromises that can't be seriously read in just a few days. We want socialism and we want it now!!!

I'm sick of working and the only thing that is keeping me at my job is health insurance. Once this bill passes I can effectively quit contributing at all to society and live entirely off someone else. Government housing, food stamps, unemployment, welfare checks - my health care is the only remaining piece of the entitlement puzzle. That is the America I voted for and want! Where is my change?

Larry is not corrupt. Just not the sharpest rock in the box. Should have stayed teaching High School.

Why do you guys want this to pass so badly anyway? It has a watered down "competitive playing field (expensive)" public option that won't do anything since only like 5% can join and a lot of subsidies for private insurers. The public option doesn't even go into effect until 2013! Just wait until states implement Single Payer or something.
  • larryv · 1 month ago
Sure...i think waiting is a great idea. Roosevelt, thats Teddy, started down this road so I suppose waiting for Texas to implement single payer would what be ..another month or two?

A minute and a half of truth from an authentic leader.

    Far more qualified than Obama.

Went to the Open Secrets page at the link, and discovered that Kissel's opponent, Tim D'Annunzio, is 97% self-funded, while Kissel is 75% reliant on PAC funding.

D'Annunzio has been feeding off the government trough for quite a while. He was in the Army, moved over to NASA to help with parachutes for the shuttle, started a business with military contracts for parachuting (which closed due to military cuts), and then opened up an armor shop (Paraclete Armor and Equipment) which reached sales of $16 mill a year, and was sold recently for what must have been a hefty price.

He's also a Christian fundamentalist extraordinaire. That name Paraclete is a common word used to describe the Holy Spirit in evangelical theology. Take a moment to wrap your minds around someone naming a military armor equipment company for the Holy Spirit. He attends the Rockfish Church, one of those Big Box evangelical churches that's probably really happy to see his tithe in the collection plate.

In other words, in a North Carolina district that Kissel won only with the help of donations from places like ActBlue, D'Annunzio is a freaking shoe-in. I don't honestly think Kissel can beat this nutcase. Kissel might as well dance with the people who brought him.

those donations and Obama effect in NC....
  • boloboffin · 1 month ago
True, but Obama isn't running in 2010.
  • larryv · 1 month ago
Thats my point. He won because of a very heavy African American and youth vote in that district that voted overwhelmingly for Obama. They will likely not turn out for Kissell in 2010 and voting against health care will nail the coffin shut because the balance of the base is very much for reform. He is like a lot of Blue Dogs sucking up to the conservatives who will not and likely did not vote for him previously...he ran in 06 and lost remember.

What is going on? Are the Democrats tired of being in the majority in the House and Senate? Have they decided to return power to the GOP next year by turning against their own base?
  • larryv · 1 month ago
Not tired...just dont have what it takes to lead.

We really should start a new website called buyersremorse.com, where we can demand our money back from Dems we donated to who aren't delivering on their promises. Including Obama.

Can someone publish the list of no and undecided Democrats? What can we do to put the squeeze on them?

first of all i met larry kissell right after the election and he's a really good guy. i was very impressed by him. here's the statement he released on why he won't vote for it: "From the day I announced my candidacy for this office, I promised to protect Medicare," Kissell said. "I gave my word I wouldn't cut it and I intend to keep that promise to the citizens of the Eighth District and the senior citizens of this nation. While I believe comprehensive health care and insurance reform is necessary, I cannot vote for H.R. 3962 in its current form, which cuts $399 billion from Medicare."

i agree with the previous comment that this is a really crappy bill and the dems should be embarrassed by it. i can't fault kissell for sticking to his guns and i don't think it's fair to say he's "turning his back on us and real health care reform." it not only matters that he is voting "no" but also more importantly why he is doing it. it's all part of our governing process.

A bit of curiosity here--how many Wall Street execs have received their H1N1 vaccines? How about our Congressional representatives and their staffers? How many of the aforementioned, even though they're not part of the "most vulnerable" population segment? Somehow, I suspect that the coverage in Congress and the traders at Goldman Sachs is pretty close to 100%.

Out here, people with children show up many hours in advance for a vaccine, only to be turned away because there's not enough.

It lets the proles know who's really important.

Kissells district here in NC is very right leaning and was created by the legislature as a GOP district. Kissell won in 08 on Obama turnout..and that alone. He is a one termer and if he votes against health care deservedly so. The other Blue Dog from NC...football jock Heath Schuler..or Rahms date to the prom....I hear he plays basketball at the WH with Obama and Rahm...is no progressive and barely better than Taylor who he replaced. Schuler was mentioned as a contender for the Senate against Burr...that did not last long because NCs Democrat core is here in the Triangle and Triad.....Schuler would not win a School Board seat in Wake County. And yes money was wasted on Kissell and I hope Act Blue does not send a single penny to Schuler either.
  • larryv · 1 month ago
Has Act Blue and other progressive PACs ask candidates to sign pledges..and publish them? And when the Larry Kissells and others do not honor the pledge they can be reminded and given the reason not another dime will come there way.
