AMERICAblog: Hillary is now rallying her major donors to help her stay in the race for a long, long time

  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
    One more day.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
You wish. Nothing stops her from staying in the race until August if she wants. This is a real problem.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
    I know, John. Groan.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
True John! But, we're hoping that Obama gets the superdelegate count he needs---and then turns his attention to
McCain. I can't really see her hurting him once America has accepted him as the nominee. If this plays out
correctly, Hillary will damage herself beyond repair. There has to be an unspoken concensus in the Dem party
that those in her campaign will fade from power for the obvious reasons.

Hillary can make a lot of noise, but it makes her and her cohorts look like complete fools.
  • Vince in Cedar Rapids · 1 year ago
I wonder how much Hillary is being paid to help John McCain get elected? I hope it is enough to make it worth it to betray the party, and ultimately the nation (in regards to more wars, higher energy costs, deflating dollar, etc...).
  • lovepeaceandallthat · 1 year ago
Exactly! I wonder how much she is getting "paid" -- in favors, promises, whatever. Or how she is being blackmailed. And how much she is willing to betray her country.

I think there is a great need to reexamine our premises and stop being naive about the Clintons, quite frankly. We need to put our "dark side" caps on and pretend that we are evil-doers and do NOT have the interests of the nation at heart. We have to think of the bigger picture, and think very long term.

I am not exactly saying that I think Hillary is an "evil-doer" (that would need to be defined more carefully!). But rather that I think it is quite clear that her actions and intentions (staying in until....???) are about much more than her personality (disorder) or character -- things such as her selfishness and blind ambition. It is always much more practical than that, isn't it? I mean, when you look back at history, yes, crazy dictators and other bad guys are crazy but really that isn't what drives them. It is about money, power, land, resources, family status, future fortunes. Usually the crazy dude is just being used by those who really are pulling the strings, and those folks wisely insist on remaining hidden. It is normal that there are pressure points coming from all over to influence the "crazy leader". It isn't like someone with a personality disorder is just let loose to do what he/she will with the country. No, it is about how to control and influence that person in any way possible.

We must look deeper at the intentions and motivations of Hillary and Bill and who they associate with. I am now expert on their ties to Saudi Arabia and I haven't yet read the new book "The Family" (about the "religious" group Hillary is involved in -- just got published this month) and really I don't know anything about them that I would say is "true". But some people do know things, and even if we come off as conspiricy nuts, it is worth asking those in the know and investigating who the hell these Clintons really are.

A few months ago I was in the camp of "Well, if Hillary is the shoe-in, then lets just go with that and win in November... anyone is better than Bush". But these last few months have been historic. Obama (and us!) have forced her to show so many hands that she otherwise would have kept hidden. Who knew she could lie THAT much and THAT often??!!

So, all I am saying is that the "why the hell is she doing this?" question needs to be seriously studied and answered before we can understand the problem and come up with a strategy to stop her. Otherwise we aren't seeing the full picture. To know what makes her tick, we need to know her key associations, who she is beholden to, and what her overall goals are (not just her personal goals). I think she has been corrupted, somehow, and that this is much more than just personal. Maybe I am wrong, but if it is just personal then it is truly astounding how much power Hill and Bill wield just based on ambition alone.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
She may stay in the race simply to milk the money from her followers to get her $20m back.
  • bkmn · 1 year ago
When will the May campaign finance results be announced?

And will we now see Hillary's campaign now owes her well over $30M, if not 35...

And the grand total of campaign deficit, over $40M???
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
If that is the case the stupid shits that give her money at this point deserve to lose it. I wonder if Harriet Christian is willing to give Hillary a few dollars to help an old white sister out?
  • Psyche · 1 year ago
I thought of that too - but not sure it's the whole story. Afraid I've joined the Rachel Maddow School of Pessimism. Funny, I used to feel sorry for those old ladies who were getting bilked when they could ill afford it. Don't anymore. This old lady has decided they're just a nasty vengeful bunch.
  • JamesR · 1 year ago
I am certain she can convince several more kids to give her their bikes and video games.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Do not be surprised if, instead of video game and bike contributions, she is pimping out younger supporters to repubs like Foley and Hastert for their money.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
The ONLY reason she would stay in the race.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
As I have been saying, Hillary has had NO intention of leaving the campaign. Both she and her minions like to mess with people's minds; you know they make up their own reality and then try to get everyone else to believe it.

Hillary was once a respectable female politician, or at least I believed that at one time, and now she has become a deceitful egomanianical member of a campaign gone awry. Can anyone say McCain-Clinton 08?
  • bkmn · 1 year ago
It will only end when her pledged superdels send her a signal by defecting to Obama, that coupled with undecided superdels hopping on the Obama express....MIGHT, just MIGHT send her the message that it is over...

Please oh please, enough of the Billary kool-aid...
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
I somehow had the feeling that the story may not be the real picture.
Why should she ask her donors to meet in NY? She does not need them to
announce she is quitting. I would not put it past her to stay in the race, and cause further problems for the Democrats. This woman has neither shame, nor any class. She will not hesitate to bring down the party, and spoil Obama's chances in November. Who the heck cares if she got the most number of popular votes - it still does not qualify her for the nomination.
Our election system does not revolve around Hillary, or her whims and fancies. For God's sake, get out the race, woman!
  • Deadalus · 1 year ago
I can't decide if you're just a drama queen or she's actually going to take it to Denver. We can't rightfully expect her to concede before the primaries tomorrow, and everyone keeps the front up until the moment they drop out.....We'll see.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
You apparently failed to note that every post I've put up is linking to other actual news stories saying the same thing. :-) Don't trust me, read the stories.
  • Deadalus · 1 year ago
Yah, but for everyone one of those, there is another alleging exactly the opposite.

I guess I'm just too much of a hopemonger....but if this week passes by with no concession I'm converting to hardened cynic.
  • ikonoklast · 1 year ago
    !?!?!?!?!?!!!!

How much is she in the hole already? Well, she'd better make one hell of a pitch...
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Yes, it would be nice to see Hillary leave the race in the next few days. However, I also enjoy her slow demoralizing demise punctuated by defeat at every turn for a has been or never was candidate. As long as Hiullary remains in the race it only magnifies her unprecedented and epic failure.

She would be nothing more than a state level Arkansas rep in Little Rock without Bill. Perhaps she would prefer this when she gets a four year taste, as the junior Senator from New York, of shining Obama's shoes or carrying his water pale, all while Bill jets around the world on a never ending international fuckfest.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
Wow, this is just great. It was a beautiful day til I came here! Parsing conceding and suspending and as I'm reading, Olbermann says suspending. The trolls have been here in full force today too--lots of Harriets made it home I guess. I'm going to drown my disgust with some Ben & Jerry's.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Well we let a few of the trolls stay cuz they're just so damn much fun. Kind of like with cats, sometimes it's funy to play with your prey first.

The goal has been 2012 since Super Tuesday. For 2012 to happen for Hillary, Obama must lose or be damaged to the point where he will not be able to govern effectively. The most effective way to damage Obama's ability to produce is to lower the margins of Dems winning seats this election. I believe Clinton is willing to work to just that end. Thats how evil I think she and her spouse really are. Check out how hard it is for down ticket Dems to get funding right now, Hillary's false drama is starving the rest of the Dem Ticket.
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
Hillary will still have her say in front of the Convention in Denver. It will be her last attempt to hijack the nomination by forcing a second or third ballot. But she has some scores to settle and she'll do it in Denver.

    Just watch.

    Obama '08!
  • Miket298 · 1 year ago
Its stunning how fast I went from loving the clintons, going to a Hillary rally, and even voting for her on super tuesday (sorry everyone) to not wanting to see Bill again and hoping someone defeats her in the NY Senate primaries.

  • foolme1ns · 1 year ago
Well there is an old saying about fools and their money. Let them give as much money as they will. (I don't think it will be very much, because Hillary is the only person that doesn't think she's lost this race) Anyone giving money to Hillary now is just paying for her debts.
  • jimfromthefoothills · 1 year ago
god damnit aravosis, all of the headlines convey that she is melting. Now you come out with this sh*t.

F*CK, somebody please drop a house on this witch.
  • Heather · 1 year ago
Hello? Superdelegates? Are you more afraid of the Clintons or the wrath of angry Democrats?
  • LasloPratt · 1 year ago
The problem is that Clinton hasn't won the popular vote by any accepted measure

Wait -- I see now where she gets this sense of entitlement. Thanks to Bush v.Gore, the loser of the popular vote gets to be president. She's just applying that same logic to the Democratic nomination. She's behind, so that makes her ahead.

    It's all so simple!

I gotta go lie down now...
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Bottom line: as long as she stays in the race, her presence will starve the DNC kitty (down to around $4m). If money is the thing that ultimately talks, Dean, Pelosi, Reid et al. will be forced to demand her withdrawal.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Absolutely. I'm sure there are thousands of Democrats like myself who have signaled the DNC that once this thing is settled, we will start donating again. If not, nada.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
That's what the DNC is hearing from me: Until Clinton is reined in from her McC-enabling Obama attacks and/or the primary is settled, no $ from me.

  • Busboy · 1 year ago
The primaries will be over. The Clintons may strut their stuff. This (after the primaries) is the time that they shine; back door deals, appointments, etc. My money is still on Obama.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
seems to me that once obama hits the magic number this week, if down ticket Dems are still not getting their dough, you have to start blaming the donors.

i like how obama has capitalized on the long primary to define himself. Speech after speech covered on free teevee. a couple of difficult issues resolved. the time has not been wasted.
  • AngelaChanning · 1 year ago
You know when John Edwards left the race, he pretty much did it in a day. It will probably get to the point where she will be issued a humiliating smack down after passing on several offerings of graceful exits. Not to sound like a drama queen, but this is beginning to depress me. I think some Goetze's Caramel Cremes might cheer me up. Thank you for listening.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Because that's the way mature people do it, and have always done it.
  • Juliann · 1 year ago
I cannot stand this. Hearing that despite what has been reported today of her calling it quits, that she is really going to drag this out to August is like hearing that a cancer has returned and is no longer in remission.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
The only remaining option for the party is for the uncommitted superdelegates to come out en masse for Obama. Clinton is not going anywhere with lawsuits. The FL courts threw out two of them, and the Supreme Court (US) has ruled earlier this year that the political parties have the right to set their rules and agendas without any outside influence. But the wishy-washy DNC has to get off of its ass and stop prolonging this madness.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
I would love to think that Hillary will end her campaign tomorrow and endorse Obama, but I think Hillary is going to again act like she won this nomination and the voters wanted her but the Super-delegates gave the nomination to the person that lost the popular vote( according to her math). She is going to whip her supporters up into a frenzy and say that the voters want her to keep going.
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
Hillary it's time to say Buh By. finally the Bush/Clinton/Bush dynasty comes to its rightful end. It's easy Hillary, just repeat after me, Buh by, buh by, buh by.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
You know, I think I would enjoy some psycho-drama from Hillary at the end complete with a mad woman scene where she denounces everyone, maybe even Bill, for failing to respect her as an upright politican and responsible decision maker at 3 am and for all that she's done since facing bullet fire in Bosnia or wherever and negotiating peace in Ireland and inventing the internet and . . . oh, wait, that was somebody else . . . and all she's done in standing by her man and learning to speak Spanish so she could campaign in PR and everything. "You people are just ungrateful," she's going to tell us. It'll be fun. We can all laugh and eat popcorn.
  • kevinbgoode · 1 year ago
You can't court superdelegates who refuse to be courted. . . and if they choose not to meet with the Clinton campaign there isn't much Hillary can do to force them to support her candidacy. I fully expect her to stay in this campaign into the convention, not because she believes she can beat McCain, but because I think her purpose is to help the Republicans. She knows she cannot win the nomination without causing serious damage to the party - she has been more than willing to do just that all along.
  • Bobby · 1 year ago
She is acting like the biggest bitch!

Congrats Hillary, I now hate you more than Ann Coulter.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Hillary Clinton acts like there were 17,000,005 voters and she of course got the 17 million and Obama got the 5 because
Hillary totally overlooks all of the people that voted for Obama.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Well, remember, if you only count the primaries after May 30th, Hillary won them all.

If she takes it to Denver, the "magic" number is not necessarily 2118, but potentially 2210 as her camp has been throwing out for a few weeks now, no?

"Unless the Democratic party leadership does something fast, we're going to lose the election in November because of this hateful woman."

This should be the democratic party's focus.
  • LeesiD · 1 year ago
Hillary for a long time hasn't had an "exit strategy". Her camp believed Hillary was the inevitable nominee, and weren't prepared for the inevitability being that she would lose. It is the entitlement factor, and I don't care what people say about that, they are truly in denial, that there was some sort of entitlement factor in all of this, and that has been more than evident in the way that Bill Clinton has lashed out at the media and Barack Obama, and Hillary has sounded like she had to carry such a legacy burden on her sholders, but sounding so much the Koolaid drinker recently. I wouldn't go so far as to say Hillary is a "hateful woman" she is a wounded woman, like a wounded animal...they lash out. Barack need not make any deals with the Clintons~he is now the head of the Democratic Party, and like Sen. Ted Kennedy said, the torch has indeed been passed~ Hillary needs to get over it, and move on

We know that Barack spoke by phone to Hillary last night, a brief and cordial conversation.

We know that both he and she plan speeches tomorrow night and that his supposedly will announce the end of the primary and that he will thereafter confront McCain.

    Duh.

She's either dropping out or suspending.
