Here's the REAL reason the neocons and pro-war media are absolutely against an Obama presidency. Neither Clinton nor McCain will hold Bush, Cheney, et al for possible war crimes, high crimes and misdemeanors.
I think, to the dismay of the DLC and the Republican Party, large segments of the electorate are fed up with being played as absolute fools by people who claim to want to serve the public. A political candidate who will lie on the campaign trail isn't just playing "politics" - they are telling the American people they intend to lie all the way through their term of office if we are stupid enough to elect them.
While this really spells peril for Republicans, who have operated political campaigns on the twin strategies of fear-and-smear and damn the facts, it underscores just how many people in this country view this election as a pivotal moment in American history - and more-of-the-same is simply not an option. Maybe it has come as a shock to Hillary's campaign, as it certainly will later to McCain, that people don't need to be TOLD they are getting "straight talk". . .all but the 20% neo-con televangelista alliance are capable of identifying honesty. They just don't seem to get it at all.
Of course, neither does the media. They continue to claim that petty things are the most important issues facing the American people rather than serious issues while arrogantly claiming they are the ones leading us to making the "best" choice for President (meaning theirs). With public perception of media credibility continuing to decline and much better moment-to-moment scrutiny of errant reporting and bias breaking in the blogosphere, this election may also force a long overdue look at the media's role in American society - and the corporations aren't going to like that at all.

That last comment about how he "misspoke but didn't lie" was a telling one, because it was in this same room two weeks ago that his rival Sen. Hillary Clinton also acknowledged that she "misspoke" about landing in the line of Bosnian sniper fire, which had been shown by tapes of the event to be untrue. Obama is more or less, pardon the pun, sticking to his guns here, with the caveat that he never meant to suggest that firearms or the church were bad things to "cling" to. Somehow I doubt this new nuance will satisfy his critics, either on the political right or within the Clinton campaign.
Obama is a once-in-a-generation candidate. He's bright, charismatic and his wit is spot on. If he becomes our 44th president, I will be really proud of my country for the first time in my adult life. ;-)

John,
Pardon if this has been asked and answered before. Why do so many gay men love Hillary so much? Even now? In the face of no evidence that she would be any better on gay issues than her husband (who was terrible for a Dem)? I was at a meeting of Stonewall Dems here in CA in Feb, and one last month, and was nearly ripped to shreds for being for Obama. Plus, all but one of my gay male friends adore her and go apoplectic when I mention anything negative.
My guess as a gay man is the old pathetic woman victim/warrior archetype. The same reason Judy Garland (brilliant performer, tortured human, druggie), and Joan Collins (great actress, yet a bitch on wheels) have been perennial gay icons. I could add Liza Minelli (same issues as her mother), and Bette Davis (great actress, but her Baby Jane character now reminds me of Clinton - just wait till the convention, you'll see what I mean).

MisterLarry,
Good question. This gay man (who else would use a Soap Opera Matriarch Name as his screenname? LOL) is not in love with her. I think you are on to something but it could be simply because she is so embattled. It could also be that she and Bill always seem to come out smelling like a rose -- She is sort of like McGyver ...she can pull something out of her ass and get out of a jam. The Baby Jane reference does crack me up -- I do imagine her dancing around the beach holding two ice cream cones. I can also imagine her making phone calls impersonating Obama's voice. (Think about that one, Baby Jane fans. LOL)

What cracks me up is how Hillary has become absolutely bombastic and unhinged these past couple of months. I really admired her when she became Senator and she seemingly matured and we did not hear of any drama. Republicans remarked how she could work across the aisle, etc. Unfortunately, a leopard cannot change its spots -- I could not imagine Hillary as president, simply because she has been so unpresidential. It would be 4 years of Bill and Hill drama. Now, mind you...if she manages to steal the nomination, I would still vote for her only because of the Supreme Court -- but I would probably get a case of the giggles while using the Diebold machine. Thank you for listening.

The MSM is so used to the whoppers that the Chimperor and the Chimpettes have told over the past eight years, that they are incapable of believing that the stories that Hillary is spinning are actually lies. Remember when Gore told us he invented the interweb thingy?

Hmm, not sure if she's like McGyver; maybe Bill is, although he's losing his touch by the minute. I really hope she doesn't put a rat on Obama's (or anyone's) dinner plate. She is becoming unhinged, without question.

Richard Cohen was good today, on Hillary:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar... Long ago I discovered that the word "frankly" often meant a lie was coming. I learned this from an insurance agent, who preceded every attempt to sell me useless coverage with a "frankly." This is why I distrust what Hillary Clinton said about Barack Obama and his admittedly klutzy statement about guns, church, immigrants and bitterness -- "elitist, out of touch and, frankly, patronizing," she said. Frankly, I don't believe her.

Simmer down John.
Clinton didn't say, "because of Obama's remarks, Kennedy decided to support Clinton", they simply said that it SOLIDIFIED his support.
Can't your position be further solidified after is has been decided?
Like a year or so back when I went to hear you speak at the SF Library (after being a long time supporter), and came to realize that the man I had looked up to as a gay youth turned out to be nothing more than a pompous, negative, Ann-Coulter-of-the-Left.
I decided at that time that I could no longer support you.
And now, in recent months, your crusade against Hilary Clinton has SOLIDIFIED my feelings towards you.

Scooter--way past bored!! Can't hear his name again without thinking of how he was referred to as Pope Benedict of the 16th Century, here yesterday.
And McCain repeated his lie today on Hardball that Obama signed a statement agreeing to public financing. Tweety aptly agreed with him. iLes! Lies! Lies! Yeah!
It is exactly one week until the PA primary. I wonder what is coming next from the Clinton campaign. She has managed to create major problems 2 or 3 days before most of the primaries. I can see Clinton staffers pouring over each and every word uttered by Obama from now till next Tuesday. They probably are going to need glasses by next week, but too bad for them, I heard they have no medical benefits.

That's STILL what he said in a statement to the media. YOU'RE the LIAR. In addition:
Late Tuesday, the campaign issued an open letter from other Montana officials — Kennedy’s name was not included — decrying the Obama comment.
“Sen. Obama’s views are offensive to rural Montanans who work everyday to provide for our families, lift up our communities and strengthen our state and country,” reads the letter from eight state lawmakers.
“We embrace our faith not out of frustration but as a foundation of the values that guide us – the values we have inherited and the values we pass on. Montanans are hunters. Many Montanans feel the Second Amendment is a part of our heritage as sportsmen and recreationists. It is not something we ‘cling to’ out of bitterness,” the letter continues

Nigel @ 3 hrs ago - concerning Sen. Obama's remarks about "investigating" possible crimes of the present Adminstration - sorry, but I'm afraid that is just a pipe dream. "The President shall have the power to issue pardons except in cases of impeachment." Unless there is an impeachment resolution passed by the House prior to GWB's departure in 2009, he will have the power to issue pardons to all and sundry and block any future investigations into any crimes committed by any member of of his administration (himself included). If Sen. Obama doesn't know that, he should. Because in that interview, Sen. Obama comes across as someone determined to say what he thinks his listener wants to hear and at the same time keep all his options open. To quote Mr. Aravosis: "...if it quacks like a duck...". Oh, and as for Sen. Clinton's "lie"? Commissioner Kennedy's having made his mind up on 1 April, doesn't preclude him from having had his decision "solidified" by Sen. Obama's remarks.
