AMERICAblog: HOAX: Girl admits "mutilation" story was a lie

  • LillaSwede · 1 year ago
I knew it! Weirdo. I bet her parents are proud =\
  • Gridlock · 1 year ago
    TOLD YA

That sh!t was backwards and her black eye wasn't even swollen.
  • Outraged2 · 1 year ago
Ya don't say! Who'd a thunk it? This won't stop the Repblitards from calling for a race war like they've been doing, though. Hope she serves a good long time in the pokey with some angry black ladies...
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
B-b-b-b-but Mourning Joe said there wasn't a hint of racism coming outa Johnny's stinkin' crypt, er campaign.

Now that's a daughter every parent could be proud of! She deserves a new car and a shopping spree at Niemans, maybe a makeover. I hope she gets some jail time!

I am sure some woman will come forward before the 4th and claim she is Obama's mistress. Just watch.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Oh, wow, I thought the "I lost 24 pounds" girl from the little webad was the McCain muggin' victim!!!
Looked fake from the get go...Always suspicious when the usually dull-witted corporate media beast stumbles, in near unison, on a new, exciting action verb like "carve"...Suggests fax prompting but the candidate phone calls were the ultimate give away.
I kept expecting Contessa Sewer to say the backwards "B" stood for "bama"...
  • ABProsper · 1 year ago
That was a bonehead play. Getting a record for, likely, making a false police report, is not the way to help your candidate.

Its a low ploy to try the "pretty girl in trouble" sympathy card too.

I don't really wish jail on her or almost anyone else save some really violent types but some community service might do her some good.
  • Gridlock · 1 year ago
pretty WHITE girl. That's the focus.

Black guy attacks innocent white girl and mutilates her.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Reporting a fake hate crime, forcing the police to waste resources on this fake crime, and doing it in order to try throw a presidential election? You'd better believe she deserves jail time.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
in the scheme of what the Repubs have done over the last couple of decades to thwart the electoral process, this is really small potatoes...

Considering you believe she deserves jail time for this stupid stunt, why haven't you been blogging and bringing to your readers attention ANY of the actions by the Republican party to deny folks their right to vote.... or mention the actual vote stealing / flipping that is currently happening in many parts of the country in early voting???
  • ABProsper · 1 year ago
Fair point but I don't think there really is a dirty tricks statute otherwise almost half of both teams would be in the can by now.

Also I am not sure that political affiliation is a hate crime under statute.

The 1st and last points you made alas really aren't all that relevant. The second well, thats another matter.

Now if true she certainly is guilty of making a false police report but she is a likely a 1st offender (and last) is all of what 20.. Most importantly no person was directly hurt by the action so

Honestly when we get the lock em up fever like that and resort to authoritarianism and anger we sound exactly like the Right.

Were it up to me I'd see it this way male or female -- It was a
Dumb trick, quick backfire, kid gets some community service and probation maybe with an expunged record, everybody wins-- we look compassionate and get cred as victims

    Win Win.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Wasn't WinWin the name of the Reagan's old Chinese housekeeper?
  • gallery · 1 year ago
    This was no "dumb trick"
She accused a "fictitious" BLACK MAN of robbery, assault with a weapon, and sexual assault.

Black men were hung by vigilante mobs based on the same kind of racist accusations in the not so distant past.

No one got hurt this time? Well tell that to any young black man who is constantly harassed by the cops for doing nothing more than being black, and then ask them if they think her making false statements against some "black guy" doesn't hurt them.
Worst of all, she tried to connect this to the campaign of the first African American running for the office of President.
    Community service?
It's time for you to watch "To kill a mockingbird" again so you can see what a false accusation has the power to do.
She deserves to go to jail.
  • Laur · 1 year ago
Now, what do you think that shit-stain has learned from this adventure?

My guess is nothing. I hope she's prosecuted and humiliated.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
    Ashley the Victim...
  • cinemaven · 1 year ago
"The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes."

I think it's important that her fake "dark-skinned black man" is included in this story whenever possible since many of today's report are not reporting it and it really shows the intent of what she was trying to do!!
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
What a nasty woman. I hope this stunt makes her life sheer hell for years to come.
  • scytherius · 1 year ago

  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
It seems clear to me this little sidebar drama took a cue from the infamous McCain ad called "Wild Wolves"...This spot was meant to visually associate Senator Obama with criminal menace as was this fake mugging.

  • ABProsper · 1 year ago
Just a short additional comment. A lot of people here sure are vindictive for a bunch of so called Liberals.

Yes what she did was dumb but kid the little twerp some slack. This is slap on the wrist territory not "Time for Super Max." The fact that she may or may not have been working for the other side is irrelevant as is the fact she invoked "fear of a black man" -- 1st offense, minor crime, deserves slack.
  • michaelt · 1 year ago
i don't know what your definition of liberal is, but it doesn't mean sucker. to pull this kind of stunt now is incredibly divisive and dangerous. throw the book at her and whoever put her up to it if applicable.

This is the post from John Moody Executive VP of FOX NEWS!

    http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/10/23/jm...

    Moment of Truth

    It had to happen.

Less than two weeks before we vote for a new president, a white woman says a black man attacked her, then scarred her face, and says there was a political motive for it.

Ashley Todd, a 20-year-old white volunteer for John McCain’s presidential campaign, says she was mugged at an ATM machine in Pittsburgh (my hometown) by a big black man. She further says he threw her down, then disfigured her by carving the letter “B” into her face with a sharp implement when he saw that she supported McCain, not Barack Obama.

Part of the appeal of, and the unspoken tension behind, Senator Obama’s campaign is his transformational status as the first African-American to win a major party’s presidential nomination.

That does not mean that he has erased the mutual distrust between black and white Americans, and this incident could become a watershed event in the 11 days before the election.

If Ms. Todd’s allegations are proven accurate, some voters may revisit their support for Senator Obama, not because they are racists (with due respect to Rep. John Murtha), but because they suddenly feel they do not know enough about the Democratic nominee.

If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain’s quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting.

For Pittsburgh, a city that has done so much to shape American history over the centuries, another moment of truth is at hand.
  • MalibuBarbie · 1 year ago
Yes. The moment of truth is at hand. McCain's quest for the presidency is over. Please make it so, Mr. Moody.
  • cinemaven · 1 year ago
Prosper, I'm guessing you don't have a "black friend". My best friend's hubby has been pulled over for DWB and walking down his own street WB over 2 dozen times in his life. My hubby has never been pulled over for any reason and I can promise you that he looks much more shady than my friend's hubby (in a cute and scruffy way). This guy looks like a total yuppie and he's a insurance broker but every time some crime is committed nearby and he's the first guy they see in the area who's black, sirens go off! I'd love to know if the police pulled over any of the "usual suspects" when this girl cried black...

The person who was/is vindictive in all of this is this girl and she really does deserve to be severely punished... at least as severely as the poor guy they might have picked up for this
  • tigergrrldc · 1 year ago
Hmmm, let's see. White girl who is a volunteer for the McCain campaign accuses a black man of mugging her and then carving a "b" in her face because he saw the McCain sticker on her car. I would buy your "fear of a black man is irrelevant" argument if the attacker had been white.

Does that mean any crime committed in America between now and election day by a black man means it was Obama's fault because he's running for president and people shouldn't vote for him? Or, if he wins, crime will go up because black people will be getting their revenge on whitey? My head hurts!

In an official statement the McCain campaign says: "We're shaken up by this. It's sick and disgusting."

Governor Sarah Palin reportedly spoke with the victim by phone.

Meanwhile, late this afternoon, the Obama-Biden campaign released a statement, saying: "This is a horrendous act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice."

i want to compare her to Mayella Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird. remember how mayella secretly desired tom robinson (who spurned her obviously) and used him to cover up her own father's crime of beating her. the difference is that tom was not just made up, but a real black man in the town.

the other thing that keeps haunting me is the susan smith story (from around 1995). she drowned her 2 children and blamed it on an imaginary black guy.
  • Laur · 1 year ago
I remember the Susan Smith story, too. Horrible. On top of it, Newt Gingrich used it as a platform to blame liberals & the evil culture of our society. Then the truth came out. And it was even uglier than anything (because two little boys were drowned by their mother, not some other assailant)--after her accusations of a black assailant turned out to be false and the investigation revealed that she was the murderer of her own two children, it turned out that (1) she did it because her lover didn't want her if she had children, and (2) her stepfather, who was a pillar of their local church AND a county Republican Party chairman, had been sexually abusing her since she was 9 years old.

    There's your Mayella Ewell.

  • KerrynowCampau · 1 year ago
That is exactly the crime that came to mind for me as well.

What ever happed to that guy? I can't remember if he killed himself or went to prison.
I hope he went to prison and that all the blacks in there knew exactly who he was and what he had done.....
  • okojo · 1 year ago
He threw himself off the Tobin Bridge to his death, after his brother confess in his participating in the crime.
  • Laur · 1 year ago
It really had an emotional pull. It was outrageous, and horrifying. Even
learning that Smith was screwed up before from sexual molestation did not
mitigate it. Someone who commits such a crime should never walk free.
  • truebluecoondog · 1 year ago
Yeah, Susan Smith. I live in her neighborhood. It took me a month to wipe from my memory the license plate number of the imaginary kidnapper we were all looking for. John D. Long lake will never be the same. Neither will her ex-husband and father of her murdered children. Very sad, indeed.
  • Laur · 1 year ago
Poor David Smith. The horror of what he endured. I never could figure out
how Susan couldn't just have relinquished custody of the boys to him, but
she might have feared that he would have raised them to hate her. Twisted.

Also, returning to the point of the story we're commenting on--that she
believed that claiming that an African-American was responsible for the
crime would be plausible--that tells a person as much about the values of
the society in which she lived at the time, as Newt Gingrich's demagoguery
did. And it goes deeper than what Newt said (and, I believe, Gingrich never
apologized for his bloviation on that occasion).

So, how will the Ashley Todd false accusation play out? Will she be held
accountable? And how about the way the McCain/Palin campaign worked so hard
at stirring up racial prejudices? This doesn't even address the usual
    suspects in hate-talk radioland.
  • Ruttle · 1 year ago
I don't really know where to start with a story as messed up as this. This was a vile crime committed by a true nut-job. She certainly needs to be held accountable for this, but I wonder if some sort of psychiatric institution, where she cannot harm herself or others, might be a better place for her than jail in the long run. At this point I don't think we have enough information about her to know with any degree of certainty. The important thing is that society is protected from her. Further she should undergo some sort of psychiatric assessment to determine her true state of mind, as far as that can be ascertained. Crimes that involve self mutilation seem to indicate a very disturbed mind. As such, some sort of incarceration seems reasonable. It could be that she is truly just that malicious and evil - in which case a term in jail for trying to criminally affect the outcome of a presidential election should be in order. This is a very serious crime.

And super copycatable...This demands a very through investigation to determine if the young woman acted alone.
  • Ruttle · 1 year ago
That's a good point. Someone else also wondered how she got the black eye? Did she do that herself as well? I could well envision this being an idea tossed around by a few McChuckleheads. I guess I just find the whole notion of mutilating myself for political, well shit, for ANY reason, so foreign and insane I am trying to talk myself into believing she is totally batshit crazy. Although, she does work for McCain which surely must represent some sort of delusional structure at work in her mind.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
the "black eye" is likely makeup... she refused medical treatment and exam... no redness, no swelling and the picture was taken immediately after teh "assault" that never happened...
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
It's was never a black eye. Black eyes are purple and red. That was part of her downfall. Sloppy, unconvincing makeup around her eye, no swelling, no medical review or treatment from outside sources, on and on and on. Even that sloppy whore Malkin was on to her.

Maybe she can hire Palin's makeup artist next time this comes up for her.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
And I'll also add that the "mutilation" as it's being called looks to be little more than "irritated skin" like what you'd get from using a dull instrument to "temporarily impress" a "message"

The skin isn't even broken... no blood, just a red mark that will disappear in a day... that's it.
  • Ruttle · 1 year ago
I was noticing the same thing. I kind of hope she is stuck with it for considerably more than a day though. The more I look at her pic, the more I think you are right and that it is make-up - which makes me wonder how the hell she was going to pull this sham off. To be honest, I think I am done looking at her picture. She makes me feel like I'm going to throw-up a little in my mouth.
  • okojo · 1 year ago
Once this brouhaha dies down, she will plead to deal, in which she will get a commuted sentence in return that she complete a psychiatric counseling program and do some community service..

What she did isn't much different than what Tawana Brawley did, or Jennifer Wilbanks.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
I'm John McCain and I approved this mutilation.

    Who mutilated Meghan McCain's face????
    Oh...wait.
    Sorry...Eye makeup.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
What did John McCain know, and when did he know it?
  • Joneses · 1 year ago
She will forever have a well paid job with the GOP. She will be rewarded.
  • catdance · 1 year ago
This is the result of McCain's dirty, slimy, lowest-common-denominator campaign. These are the sick people he attracts.

No matter what the outcome of the election, this will be McCain's legacy. He's dragged his own name through the mud and win or lose, he'll always be known as the dirty hate-mongering candidate.

She says She didn't expect all this attention????????????????????????? I am going to take the last excuse for the high road and fragilly assume that she has a mental difficulty. My only query? If she does have a history of questionable behavior due to a mental issue WHERE TF ARE THE PARENTS OR THE CUSTODIAL FIGURE
  • Laur · 1 year ago
Isn't she a college republican? That could be indication of a mental difficulty right there.

The backwards "B" did not sit well with me. The guy punched her in the right side of her face meaning he had to be right handed, right? Then he carves a "B" with his left hand...backwards? until I saw the photo, I only knew it was on the left side of her face and I was thinking how did he do that? was she on the ground and he was at her head standing over her? it didn't make sense.
Now it does. her dumb ass (or someone's dumb ass) carved it while looking in the mirror.

what a whack job!! I guess she figured it worked for Tawana Brawley (memba her?) it would work for her.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
it's not "carved"... the skin is irritated, not broken... she either used her own finger nail, or some other dull instrument to make the "B"... and in the next day or so will be completely gone... and did it after applying the "black eye" makeup...
  • wamland · 1 year ago
One can only hope that it leaves a permanent mark.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Would be nice if 30 years from now, she looks in the mirror and still has to remember what she tried to do 'way back in 2008'....
  • evan_la · 1 year ago
Tawana Brawley lied to prevent her father from beating her - again - then the snowball started rolling and she couldn't figure out how to stop it.

This is different. This gal is stupid. I don't often use the B word, but she won this prize all by herself. That B scratched on her face stands for bitch.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
I've got it! The first all female ticket! PALIN/TODD 2012
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
That's a sad commentary on the campaign. It's not a surprise, though. She believed she could get away with that story. Are drugs involved? Inquiring minds want to know.
  • KerrynowCampau · 1 year ago
I haven't read the thread but.....

    Carving the "B" backwards??? LOL!!!
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
I don't know which is worse, the stupidity of the crime or the confession. Now she will really have a reason for somebody to beat the crap out of her. Hopefully her parents or parental figure will stand guard this time.
  • meemers · 1 year ago
Someone at McCain HQ is getting their ass handed to them right now for talking the candidates into calling this liar before doing any sort of check to see if there was a story here. LOL!
  • FunMe · 1 year ago
What a LIAR ... how republiCON of her!

Meanwhile, I doubt Obama people really care about Texas. My homestate I pray one day will come to the light and go back to being a Democratic state. But not this year, unfortunately. It is not even a "swing" state!
  • Aanya · 1 year ago
This is so sad and so telling for so many reasons. Notice she aligns herself with the rethugs. McCain /Palin bring out the best in people! The way the campaign is being run, is running down their own people. Everything aside, she needs to appologize to the real victims of her crime. An appology from McCain and Palin is certainly inorder also! They need to stop and examine the way they behave, and how their lies and mis statements are so hurtful and dishonest. The must be many many more like this girl out there.
  • okojo · 1 year ago
If anyone I am angry about this, besides Ms. Todd. It is Matt Drudge. He was irresponsible to the point of reckless for posting this without having all the facts in.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
I totally agree, but I will give a small clap to him using it as his headline most of today, so far, with her big fake injured face splashed across the center and "She Made it Up!" underneath. At least it will get some visibility. He could have posted it as a smaller one line link further down the list.

BUT STILL...you are right, he was the first one to post it yesterday (in RED no less)....and you know he was about to wet his pants when he saw the story the first time...
  • okojo · 1 year ago
I think Drudge was doing a little CYA, and trying to get the horse back into the barn. Yes, it is important he posted that it was a hoax. However, he was completely irresponsible in posting this without much info, and knowing what the outrage this would cause. The photo he used wasn't a police photo, it was sent by the "sarahsarmy" blog website.

Yes he did some damage control today, but he blew it, big time. He should had shown some restraint, given I saw right away a big red flag about this story when she refused medical assistance. If he had some restraint he would save hims some major headaches.
  • Joe_Bourgeois · 1 year ago
This whole thing -- racism, fakery, fake outrage, hype -- is kind of like Nixonland in microcosm, hunh?
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
Now we know why their makeup and hair peeps are being paid such high salary, they have to do more than just McCain and Palin's makeup and hair.
  • Laur · 1 year ago
I wonder if this gambit was a way for the McCain campaign to seek redemption for the racist behavior of some of its supporters, and that now McCain will disavow it all, and everyone will find it touching & decide that THIS, at last, is the REAL John McCain that everyone thought they knew & loved. And everyone will vote for the Republican ticket.

    Uhm...NOT!
  • anokie · 1 year ago
I'm done, wake me up when this is over!........I've gotten to the point in anger where one loses all words to explain the anger. I knew this was a hoax yesterday as news started to trickle in....but hearing a confession of the hoax is something else. I wonder what a class 3 (according to news reports) misdermeanor gets you in Penn.?
  • DKarma · 1 year ago
I knew this was a hoax the instant I saw her face...unless the guy attacked her upside down there is no reason for the B to be backwards!!!

This lady is a fucking lying idiot.

  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Everyone click on it, the more clicks a story gets, the higher up CNN ranks it...

I wish this story would be the top on all the news outlets. I think it really reflects negatively on the McCain/Palin campaign..
  • SkyDotCom · 1 year ago
OK... I have to admit that, at this stage of my life, I've begun to see some humor in these occasional false black-man-mugged-me reports, BUT... On the serious side, I now think that these people should be charged with more than the normal "making a false report"; If there are extenuating circumstances ---such as trying to incite hate or fear by blaming it on someone of another race/religion/ethnic group--- the charge should be elevated in the same manner that other charges are labeled "hate crimes".

The positive side of this report is that this sick little twerp will have the honor of having the first initial of the next President of the United States emblazoned on her fat face! (She, of course, could also take it to mean Biden, Black, or Bullsh*t.) What a loser...

why in hell do fuckholes like this always seem to come from texas????

seriously! just when i think we are redeeming ourselves, some dumb twat like this comes along and shits on our reputation again.

as a texan i strongly disavow this fucktard.

now perhaps everyone understands exactly what type of wingnuts we have to deal with here. my god, she is just so typical! there's a little brownshit (typo but keeping it) just like her who run the college repubs on my campus, and this type of stupidity seems to run deep amongst the young 'pubs around here.

    *bangs head against wall*
  • rja4429 · 1 year ago
Yep -- Texas, from whence comes a certain other asshole, who we soon will happily send back to y'all. Yep, Texas, the state which is about to execute 12 people over a six-week period. Yep, redemption will be a long time acomin' for the Lone Star State.
  • FatRat · 1 year ago
I can believe how stupid she was. She wrote the letter backwards!!!

She should of picked the letter O. That way it wouldn't be easily detected, that it was carved by her own hand. I don't know which I find more offensive; that she is a criminal or that she should been a contestant on Jay Leno's Jay Walking.

It's bad enough that 1 in 7 US citizens can't find the USA on a globe, but her degree of stupidity is just embarassing.

Interesting point. Its funny cause that area of Pittsburgh is caulk full of young people and bars. Liberty avenue is a major thoroughfare in the city, and is very well lit, especially on a Wednesday night at nine in the evening. The ATM she was "assaulted" at is right on Liberty Avenue.
  • Joe_Bourgeois · 1 year ago
What's McCain -- or the wingnuts more generally -- gonna have done to her?
  • therepguy · 1 year ago
    She would be from Texas...

What does that say about fair play in Texas... it doesn't exist!

What does that say about bigotry in Texas... its still alive and well!

What that say about the contempt for the truth in Texas... sad, need I say more?

What's that say about divisiveness here in Texas... a hell of lot, many down here are not able to spell it or pronounce it but many sure embrace it!

What does it say about the hypocrisy of Texas politics... nothing progressive Texans don't already know!

What does it say about hatred in Texas... much to much and its most likely fundamentalist, christian based!

What does it say about intolerance in Texas... that's that?

Next well find out that she's a social conservative, right wing, fundamentalist, christian, fascist woman, who's family sent her to a christian school to learn all of the above... and what does that say of Texas education... it but fear in to all Texas political progressives!

Will Texas ever get over "Bushism and it fascist leansings!
  • keineFurcht · 1 year ago
She's from Texas, yes, but she is a single representative of us, and she's batshit crazy at that, obviously. Furthermore, she is a single representative of one of the more conservative colleges (A&M), so it's hardly fair to say that this is representative of Texas as a whole.
