Obama endorsed Joe over Ned Lamont????!!!! >:-(
  • lark83 · 1 year ago
I'm shocked and a little disappointed too. He should have at least stayed neutral.

Obama endorsed Lieberman in the CT 2006 primary elections. At that point, Lamont was the challenger and Lieberman was a sitting United States Senator and Obama's colleague. At that point, I was an active Lamont supporter and did not appreciate Obama's (or the Clinton's too) expressed support for Lieberman. However, I could understand it, because Lieberman was the recognized party official and this is how the game gets played.

What disappointed me about Obama is that he refused to actively campaign in the 2006 general election for Lamont. He did make some half-hearted attempts to generate some support for Lamont, but that's not what was needed. Lamont needed Obama to come into some of the major CT cities to generate grassroots enthusiasm and press reports. Lamont needed some outside help to shake up the GE narrative, to break through the fog of lies Lieberman was spouting. Obama refused and the rest is history. It made it easy for me to support Edwards initially. Only Clinton's being in the same boat offered any solace when I decided to vote for Obama. They both misread Lieberman badly.

I am assuming Obama hasn't made any statement about this past decision he made, and how he feels about it no. It would be nice to hear from him on this.

I guess if McCain chooses LIEberman as VP (why is there an ad picturing them together on the top of this page?) then perhaps Obama should explain more about this. If I was a Ned Lamont supporter in Conn I too would have a hard time coming around to Obama! Politics is a sad game, really.
  • DCinDC · 1 year ago
Obama made one big mistake in trusting Joe Lieberman. Far too many Democrats in Conneticut also made the same mistake when they also trusted Joe Lieberman and voted for him over Ned Lamont. Lieberman backstabbed everybody and has no ethics.
  • bumpkis · 1 year ago
McCain's campaign filed the modification to his initial $3 million loan on Dec. 17, seeking an additional $1 million. The bank asked him to produce something more than his campaign's assets as collateral.

Lieberman: McCain can reunite our country

    (Lieberman announces endorsement for McCain)

Note the dates...coincidence? I think not.

    Feh - politicians...

I would very much have preferred Obama to have endorsed Lamont on principal and wish Lieberman would have returned the favor also on principal, but these guys don't operate on principal, only on political expediency. Barack picked Lieberman over Lamont for political reasons and Lieberman is picking McCain over Obama for political reasons. Their politics may differ, but the hedging of political bets is common to both men.

We are going to have to work very hard to keep Obama true to the ideals we all hope he possesses.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
True. I just read over at RawStory that his top economic advisor (37 yr old) is a big proponent of Wal-Mart - arguing that providing "cheap goods" to the poor justifies paying them low wages.

To be fair to Obama he has stated that Wal-Mart should pay a living wage and that he doesn't shop there - most millionaires don't. Anyway, this new top economic advisor should be put under the microscope. Something doesn't add up here.
  • MorgaineSwann · 1 year ago
Let's hope Barack learned a lesson about loyalty to the Party and won't do anything that stupid again. He should have backed Lamont - the voters chose him, and he was against the war. Doing people dirty will always come back on you.

The thing about Obama that I like the most is that he is very, very smart. Unlike the retard that is the Current Occupant. I pity (not) Lieberman for not understanding just how truly and thoroughly he is going to be SCREWED. LOL!
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    That is a sweet thought.

I pray to see it come to fruition.
  • Mikki --SE Pennsylvania · 1 year ago
Make that two prayers for fruition!
  • HelenaMontana · 1 year ago
I'm sorry. I love me some Obama and all, but how could he not see this coming? How could he endorse Lieberman over Lamont? I guess the smartest of us make mistakes about people now and then, but Lieberman was a pretty transparent jackass at the time--that's why Lamont was running against him.

I would imagine, though, that Obama knows that it's pointless to get too upset with Holy Joe--it would be like getting upset at a snake for biting you. Backstabbery is just part of the hacktastic Lieberman package.

Lamont and the 2000 opponent of Lieberman recd the exact same vote counts..

Just another one of them coincidences.

Joe grew up as a timid kid in Connecticut reading books under the covers at night about the holocaust and somehow convinced himself that he, personally, a weak little jewish kid, was going to be taken off to a concentration camp and tortured and killed . It formed his world view and it has not changed in the last 50 years. Joe is the worst kind of solipsist with an internalized paranoid vision of the future based on his own puerile fears. As John says, he is not a nice person. If you listen to his voice you can detect the persecuted whine which drones through all of his public pronouncements with the noteless hum of a tuning fork. His pleadings for support of Israel without regard to whatever she does, his willingness to abandon any party loyalties to further that support and his craven need to nurse along McC's ignorance of Middle East realities are close to pathological. Obama was right to back him up against the wall the other day in the Senate.

One can only hope that greasy Joe's boyhood dreams come true.
  • martha · 1 year ago
I so agree with so many of you. Obama is SO smart but he fell for LIEberman. I voted for Obama in the primary, I'll vote for him for Pres but he has got to get smarter and tougher and meaner.
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
why is this news? he fully stabbed al gore and ALL dems in the back. he has been a right-wing plant from day 1. I will repeat my post about 'traitor joe':

compare his debate performance on youtube against cheney with his debate against lamont: all-you-need-to-know...
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Obama got suckered by Lieberwuss.

Geeze, I wish Obama could just deck the little dork.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    OMG.

There's a McCrazy ad at the bottom of the thread now with McCrazy and Lieberwuss hanging all over each other.
  • msmellieus · 1 year ago
This wasn't just political expediency on Obama's part. When Obama first joined the Senate, Joe Lieberman was assigned to him as his mentor. For this reason, Obama's probably the only Dem on the Hill I can forgive for his endorsement of Lieberman.

I'm also pretty sure he wasn't surprised by the backstabbery, and to the extent that Lieberman still counts at all in national politics, I'm confident Obama has plans to neutralize the effect.

  • CalGal · 1 year ago
What do you have against whores, John?

At least they give an honest service many people need.

I know some whores. I like some whores. Joe LIE-berman, sir, is no whore. He's an ingrate, an opportunist, he's a currently living embodiment of a Philistine, and he's a future member of the Minority Party Republican'ts. He's scum.

    Exactitedly.

There's a word for greasy Joe and that word is PERFIDIOUS.
  • jiminportlandoregon · 1 year ago
John, you are spot on about Lieberputz. I think this guy is a scumbag. He is a congenital opportunist and always has been. The only bright spot about Gore losing the 2000 election is that this asshole wasn't elevated politically. After Obama wins in November and we have a substantial majority in the Senate, I hope Harry (no spine) Reid tells this guy to take a hike.

Talk about horrible judegment call on Obama's part. I remember bithcing about this endoresement when it came out and noted it will bite him in the ass. Guess what, It happened. We need to get rid of reid, pelosi and lieberman. worthless leaders. Will Obama show them the door in the Obama administration?? Doubt it...
  • DCinDC · 1 year ago
If Obama is elected Lieberman will be toast! Obama will not forget this. If I was on Lieberman's staff I would leave the sinking ship now.
  • Smarmy · 1 year ago
Lieberman was also 'mentor' to the new senator Obama! Lieberman is in DC to get money and have his wifey get money. He is absolutely the worst kind of human being. But he'll remind you he's an observant Jew! Shame.
  • Bubsy · 1 year ago
"That doesn't make him principled, it makes him a whore". He was always a whore. It just took this incident to really put a light on this cockroach.
