AMERICAblog: How many different ways can reporters say that McCain is lying without using the word "lying"?

  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Today's GOP talking point: The Obama team calling McCain and Palin liars shows how "hysterical" they are becoming as they slide in the polls. They're having to play defense, and they are just "hysterical" as the Palin/McCain ticket takes the mantle of change away from them.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I noted that in the open thread, in the past two days, the Republicans have used the words hysterical, panic, and out of control. This is the new talking points for them. Obama hits back and they call it hysterical. Of course, on MSNBC this morning there were only Republicans, not ONE Dem to refute these charges and I think that is the way it is going to be on MSNBC.

Turn it off...I know it's hard with lifetimes of AM nooz conditioning...But, just turn it off.
How, oh how, can the Jewish establishment at NBC News allow racist Nazi filth like Pat Buchanan unfettered access to American living rooms???
How do corporate media executives sleep at night?
NBC is rejecting its large increases in audience share (in the prime demo even) to toady to its corporate rulers from the Rethug establishment.
That free market is something, isn't it Freddie and Fanny?
I think Rachel regrets having the clammy-handed UberScheisse hater Pat Buchananon her first program...It appeared she ended Pat's segment early but I doubt old asexual Pat caught the joke in the segment's title, "It's Pat".

    -----------------

I wonder if it's ever occurred to anyone that some Jews just don't give a crap about other Jews, just as some Christians don't give a crap about some Christians. What we have here is an accumulation of certain Jews who have their own agenda, the hell with everyone else.

time for another ad about another lie. then let's see who get 'hysterical', which by the way, is indirect sexist language...

If the McCain campaign had balls, they'd call Obama a pussy. /snark kinda
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
How about the Dems have some kind of talking points too.

John McCain: No straight talking anymore. Just the usual crooked ways.

Look who owns the major media corporations.
No wonder the Dems cannot get their message across, and why they keep
losing these elections. The Republicans have a strong hold on what's
    been said out there.

The founding fathers would agree with you. They said when we lost our media, we lost our Democracy. How right they were; hence, Freedom of the Press was placed in the FIRST amendment of the Bill of Rights. Propaganda is the tool that brought both Hitler and the Bush crime family into power.

    Or how about this:

    GOP = Gang Of Prevaricators.

The McCain/Palin campaign: Lying, because they think you are stupid.
  • bacalove · 1 year ago
McCain and the GOP still want to play got-cha politics -- Old-time Party Politics, which most Americans are weary and growing tired of. The GOP lead us into a Pretend and Fake war, the Iraq invasion. The Real war was and is in Afghanistan where Bin Ladin is hiding today. That is not change you can believe in. Most Americans want Truth and Authenticity. We don't want to be led into a fake war for oil! We don't want our young men and women dying for oil and a fake war that should have never been authorized. John McCain likes to say he is good on national security, yet he voted Yes to authorize the fake war the Iraq War. What we need desperately today is more honesty by our politicians in this nation instead of the politics of Got-cha, Lies and the tearing down of one's opponent through dishonesty. The debate should be about the real issues, not pretend wars or personal attacks and or empty and false slogans because it does nothing for the day to day lives of American people.

The Republican operatives have belittled and berated Barack Obama as just speeches, however, Barack has over 20 years of experience in public service, plus a Natural Talent to organize and get things done, as evidenced by the successful running of his Campaign. Barack Obama has an innate judgment as evidenced by his speaking out against the Iraq war when it was not popular because he had the intelligence and common sense to know that the real was was in Afghanistan not Iraq. Bin Ladin did and does not live in Iraq. Barack Obama has the ability to inspire people to unite in a common cause to bring about the Necessary Changes we need today. Because if we do not unite for change, for true democracy, together we will all go down with the ship and be united anyway but in a negative way and not a positive way.

We definitely need a change in the way our politicians campaign which as to date, tears down one's opponent through lies and dishonesty which only tears the country down and puts a bad taste in our mouths, though each candidate has the right to point out true policy differences. We should demand honesty and integrity from our politicians and stop letting them lead us down a yellow brick road of illusion, misstatements, lies and dirty political maneuvering!

Barack Obama is no ordinary man. He is not the Messiah, but he is an Old Soul or Disciple. He was born to lead and born to take humanity to a higher stage of unity and prosperity. His message has been throughout that all children are Everybody's Children, and that we must change the "mindset" for going into wars. He tells us that in order for us to make it as a society and solve our problems, that we must stop being divisive: gays against straight, Muslims, Jews, Palestinians, Christians must unite and respect one another's religions. That will be his greatest gift to humanity at this time -- the ability to see each other as ourselves -- or together we can go down with the ship. Everyday he risks his life. He is not running because he has a thirst for power. He offers up his life for his love of humanity and to its next stage of evolution. We should embrace this gift and offer up our prayers that he can finish his mission, his high calling. We must stopped being fooled by politicians who only has the best interest of their pocketbooks and big corporations and not the pocket books of everyday average citizens. It should not take 10 years for the minimum wage to be increased, there is no justification for that. That should tell you there that politicians who vote no for an increase care nothing about your day to day struggles. And you have to ask yourself "What has the GOP done for me lately"? The years when the American Dream was thriving, they were years when there was Democratic Presidents and Congress. That is the true party of the people. If we are to get back to the American dream again we must put in office that party who has always been inclusive and the people's champion. That party is the Democratic Party.

And lastly we must not listen to those who refuse to understand the changing of the old order, and the awakening of humanity to the new possibilities. We need a complete purification of the political and economical arenas which would be of the greatest value in bringing back Americas greatness and strength.

Well said, and totally true. We see it because we are thinkers, sadly most are not. Particularly on the right. Not to mention the detriment to our planet and agreegious human rights issues as it relates to gay people.

FOLKS, this story is big. Political careers have been destroyed from this kind of scam being discovered. The Washington Post broke a story about Palin gaming "per diem" and paying herself traveling money while she was at home. It is a SCAM and she should pay for it! This isn't "CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!" Is Charlie Gibson going to ask her about her little scam?

I read that this morning and also read the excuses for these charges made by Palin. I don't think it is going to fly. Hey, if she can boldly lie about her bridge to nowhere and NO ONE seems to care, do you think they are going to care about this?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago

Democrats need to stop with the "Palin is a good speaker" crap, as well. She isn't a good speaker she is a GOOD READER, FOLKS! She is reading speeches written for her and teleprompters.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
OH yeah I agree but the sad part is, other than that first campaign speech, you don't get to see Palin reading word for word her speech, you only get to see the sarcastic sound bite. And then have you noticed how McCain stays in the background? When Palin finishes her attacks he jumps in like some conquering hero to shout "Change is coming". Wish I was in the audience because I would be shouting right back " REALLY, how come it has taken you 20 plus years to become a change agent?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
BINGO...she sucks as a speaker, truly. A monkey can read a teleprompter and pretend to know what they are talking about. We had one in charge for eight years.

Her voice is so annoying you want to slit your wrists. That Fargo accent is enough to make you barf...

McCain is a liar, a bald faced liar. Don't believe a word he yells.
  • hallam · 1 year ago
No, he isn't lying, he is in the bubble.

Like Bush, McCain believes every word he says when he says it. But he is incapable of admitting that he made a mistake and so he ignores any information that might indicate he made a mistake.

Palin is an enemy of earmarks, if reality disagrees then reality must have got it wrong. Porker Palin cannot be an earmark queen.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Obama and Biden need to call McCain and Palin liars. If you want more lies after eight years of lies in conjunction with war and failure then McCain-Palin is your ticket. Idiots can have their yellow cake and eat it too.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
I like that.....yellow cake. Good one.
  • Wolfsinger · 1 year ago
Rove and his puppets McCain/Palin are ABSOLUTELY counting on a stupid electorate. And, a racist one.

Judging by the polls, his methods, no matter how evil are paying off.

He can count on a stupid/racist electorate because he can ABSOLUTELY count on a complicit media. The "Blessed Sarah" doesn't NEED to speak to the press to account for her actions. The media is too busy singing her praises or cowering and simpering at Karl's roar. And Karl knows that every singe day that passes between now and the election means that voters are doing what they always do during this phase of an election cycle. Firming up their opinions. Making it harder and harder to convince voters otherwise. Time is on Karl's side. Karl is about winning. Period. He doesn't give a tinkers damn what happens to our country in the process. So, sequestered Sarah stays.

Need more proof? McCain's lead spokes flunky says proudly "this election is not about the issues".
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Having Obama fancy fuck the obvious by diplomatically saying McCain-Palin are "stretching the truth" will not cut it. It is weak. Weak ass fancy talk is not what folks demand of a leader. Truth in the face of lies is what people want. Continued tossing of the word salad will get Obama defeated. Obama and Biden neeed to kick these fuckers square in the face and call them liars.

    Speaking of Liars...

LOL! rumor has it that Joe Scarborough didn?t show up for work again, He missed Mondays show (Is it possible that he is ****ed off that he has been passed up again?) Because, just maybe, Scarborough thought he was better suited for the job than Gregory? He didn?t show up for work this morning, claiming illness, we?re told. Possibly, he is sick, but conspiracy theorists ? like Chuck Todd, who makes the case here on Morning Joe that with fewer than 60 days to the election, it?s important for a show host to actually be on the air ? would argue he woke up at his usual early hour, saw the Times story (or got word it was coming), blew up in a typical fury, and refused to get in the town car for 30 Rock .

Trouble is . . . Buffy moved to Tuscany, Angel took over administration of Wolfram & Hart and disappeared during a street fight, Dexter is too self-absorbed to be useful, and the L-Word fans are waiting for Hillary to heal. That won't happen so I guess we'll just have to go on blogging while the world ends, go on blogging while the world ends . . .
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
MSNBC just did their little "truth o meter" test on the bridge to nowhere and Palin didn't pass, did they say she is lying, nope they said she "flopped" on the scale. So now you can add "flopped" instead of lying.

This reminds me of the Pentagon a few years ago describing simple hammers, toilet seats, and ink pens as everything under the sun instead of what they actually were.
  • meemers · 1 year ago
When your a Republican its called a flop
when your a Dem and your telling the truth...It's a savage lie.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Also, did you catch how they described, "I put the jet on E-bay!" as truth? Instead of saying she LIED by OMISSION by not clarifying it didn't SELL on E-bay, they said, "There is a caveat..."

So "a caveat" is a LIE by OMISSION by a politician. You leave inconvenient facts out, no problem, its a "caveat." Also, another LIE BY OMISSION is the person who ended up buying the jet at a loss was one of Palin's campaign donors. Wow, talk about "keeping that luxury jet in the family?" Also, the Washington Post describes all the taxpayer money the Palin family has spent flying her kids around so its not like she has "grounded" herself or her family. She just flies commercial and charges the taxpayer for it.

I mean really America wake up.....This totally inept person is going to be a heart beat away from the presidency??? If we lose, we deserve what we get.

Have you seen some of the morons interviewed at these McSAME events about Palin? They like her charisma, and spunk. WHAT? I am convinced that 70 percent of the public is obtuse, unware and uneducated. Just the way the Necons like it to keep up their ranks.

I went to lunch with a lesbian friend of mine, and was joined by a gay male friend. This is Oklahoma, mind you, and they both expressed excitement over Sarah Palin. I almost puked. I didn't get mad at them but picked their brains to try to figure out what it was that made them excited. The answer? They are both LOW INFORMATION voters. Neither of them know what she stands for. They don't like Republicans, but they think her skirt neutralizes the fact she is a Republican. They both wanted to know why I supposedly "had it in for her and John McCain." I clicked off about ten reasons real rapidly, and they looked at me like sheep and blinked trying to digest the logical reasons I had for opposing them. They both giggled, and my gay male friend said, "I really wish Obama would have picked Hillary to be Vice President..." There ya go... I don't think those two are average gay/lesbian voters but they are the average low information voter. We are in trouble.

Now how the hell do we convince them to vote for Obama?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
I hear you. My partner and I had the exact experience this weekend as well. It confounds me how illogical people are, truly. I don't get it. Actually being a thinker is a curse, proving the point, ignorance is truly bliss.

PS: That's why we need to keep it simple for these people. They do not understand logic and nuance so we need to use language they understand. McCain/Palin are liars and hate America because they don't want to make it better.

  • eliot99 · 1 year ago
Apparently no more than Obama. Keith tried to spoon feed him last night but he ignored it. People don't want to hear crap like "stretching the limits of spin" from a man who wants to be POTUS. They want to hear it called what it is. A LIE! Saying it in ads is worthless. Until it rolls off Obama's tongue and he quits dancing on a pin head, he'll look weak. And, saying he'll continue laying out his case is going nowhere because no one is listening. This news cycle has to be broken and the only way to do it is for Obama to stand up and do/say something that will break it. "They are LYING" will do it. It will also show regular people that he calls em how he sees em. THAT was one of the greatest appeals about Biden. The choice was popular for that reason. Joe calls em the way he sees em and people identify with that. Anything short makes their lies look like possible truths.

I may be wrong but, I think it needs to come from Obama. If Joe says it that does nothing for Obama's appearance of strength. It may in fact make things worse. It could make Obama look weaker than his #2. There's already a perception of that and it will only reinforce it. No one would be surprised if Biden did it and it won't break the cycle. Today will be crucial. If this cycle doesn't break soon, we've got problems. And, waiting for MSM to police this lie-fest is not going to happen.

I thought Senator Obama handled himself very well...I want my President back up on a pedestal and out of the mud pit.
Keith, on the other hand, was more biting and acerbic in his hour than I've ever heard him...Nary a word about NBC's slap in the face after his ratings and cash bonanza for the cable web...It will take watching more than one program to be sure but GE may regret pissing the genie outa Keith's broadcaster bottle.
  • eliot99 · 1 year ago
I agree he handled himself well, he always does. But, I don't think calling a lie a lie is swimming in the mud. It's calling it exactly what it is. It also sends the message that he's not going to stand for it. Telling people that's just how Republicans are isn't going to get it. As long as that's the comeback, the lies and misinformation will continue. There are still too many nit-wits in this country that will rationalize the lies in their minds. They believe that because he hasn't called it a lie, then it might be true. But, when told straight out that it's a lie, that rationalization becomes harder.

Bush is giving a speech about bringing home the troops all due to the surge. I am glad the troops are coming home but I question the timing. McCain is going to drill home the success of the surge which Obama opposed.

Right now the Obama campaign needs to say good for bringing home the troops But as Americans we should never elect another president that will blindly take us into war OR keep us at war as McCain says.

BTW Bush is proving Obama was right about Afghanistan, he is sending more troops to the ORIGINAL war that we never finished.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
He isn't bringing home MANY troops in Iraq. Its a shell game.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
He said the last of the 5 battlions that were deployed for the surge are coming home, so you are right. He is only bringing home those troops that were in addition to the troop level currently in iraq. Nice huh, play word games with the public.

The important thing here is admitting we need to get back to Afghanistan. The question is WHERE are these troops coming from? I heard that there isn't enough military to support both Iraq and Afghanistan so are these SURGE troops now going to be deployed to Afghanistan.

"McCain and his crew think reporters are spineless wimps. They think the American people are stupid."

This is the one thing I agree with the GOP on. The reporters ARE wimps. Yes, we all get excited when one journalist tells the truth and/or goes after McCain. But it's the last time that reporter does it. Yes, even the Wall Street Journal is right twice a year or so.

As for the American people being stupid, yes. That, too. Now before you get offended, think about it. This election choice is as easy as pie. Yet, at best, it will be a 50-50 election. I am embarrassed to know most Americans are that stupid.
