AMERICAblog: Huckabee: McCain's debate gambit "huge mistake"

  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
I am completey opposite of Huckabees politics, but I have to give him credit, he has on more than one occasion called it like he sees it. This is one of those times.

    I agree....he has.

Thank you Obama for not backing down on this!!! You shamed him into it.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Joe, you hit the nail right on the head. McCain is nothing more than a drama queen. Period.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
You and Barack make an ADORABLE couple! The choice is clear: No Drama Obama vs. Old Attention Whore.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Hey thanks! He is a nice guy too. We had a nice talk. The real deal.

Get him in for a CT scan pronto. Anyone acting this erratic may have a brain tumor.
  • JamieinAZ · 1 year ago
I don't know why Huckabee is freaking out. McCain never put his campaign on hold. He just acted like he was going to put it on hold. There's a difference! Now, to decide which is more disingenuous?

McCain campaign in panic over Palin.

  • grandma · 1 year ago
and for good reason.....wonder if McCain will replace her with the supposed economic guru Romney
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Romney is awfully silent, isn't he? McCain is in between a rock and a hard place though. If he did what you suggested, the only base he can count on right now, the religious right, would stay at home, not only because Palin is their pick but also because they hate Romney for being a Mormon.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
I don't doubt that they are, but she still serves as a smoke screen over McCain's behavior which they should be in a panic about too. Bet she comes up with laryngitis before the debate and is out for six weeks.
  • davidkc · 1 year ago
McCain's already running ads saying he won the debate, per the Washington Post:

"Although the fate of tonight's presidential debate in Mississippi remains very much up in the air, John McCain has apparently already won it -- if you believe an Internet ad an astute reader spotted next to this piece in the online edition of the Wall Street Journal this morning.

"McCain Wins Debate!" declares the ad which features a headshot of a smiling McCain with an American flag background. Another ad spotted by our eagle-eyed observer featured a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis declaring: "McCain won the debate-- hands down.""

    Link: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2008/09...

Hmmm. So McCain was seriously considering not attending the debate, but already had ads out declaring he won the debate. For anyone who still believes this wasn't a big stunt, I have a bridge in Alaska to sell you.

Who's going to make sure that McCain isn't wearing an earpiece feeding him answers during the debate? Just like the Chuckle Monkey did during the debates with Kerry?
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
CA Mike: I sure hope that they will check ears and under the jacket and not be snookered again. Trust but verify. Remeber the " cone of silence" at Saddleback. We've learned the unffortunate truth that no trust at all is due to the Rovians and so these things MUST BE CHECKED regardless if Johnny blows his cork.

We've noticed more sophisticated, better educated and more professional type Republican women between 35 and 60 here in the empurpling midwest are personally offended by Sarah Palin.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Even conservative columnists are beginning to get it. Palin just isn't experienced, qualified, or ready to be a VP. There is absolutely no way, she can "learn" every single detail about national, and foreign affairs. People have to realize that this has been a horrendous decision by McCain. This is bad judgment, and Palin, the opportunist, thought this was a cake walk, and did not blink, when she accepted this. She who dealt with witchcraft, moose, bridges to nowhere, and snowmobiles, does not have a bloody clue, about being a VP.
One thing about those rethuglicans; you put a clown up there, and they will vote for it, as long as it has "christian values".

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/26/kathle...
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
Sage: Please check on Palin's " Christian values" Last I heard she is a proven adulteress. There are sworn affadavits which prove the affairr she had with her husband's business partner just a few years ago. Lastly, is it one of those" Christian values " to engage in rituals of witchcraft? I saw this myself and wonder what the Chrristian position is on witchcraft and adultery. Sage, please check this out with Pastor Muthee in Wasilla, Alaska. He has the film to prove it.

If zinging the feathers flying from the McCain coop these last few days is in the cards, an indirect and historically presidential folksy metaphor or allegory might play well, tonight, if steeped in the principal's very bones and played with his delicious, laconic wit...
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Off topic, but what is up with f-ing Bill Clinton, on all the talk shows praising McCain and Palin, inviting McCain to his "global initiative", and blaming the Democrats for Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac? He said something like he tried to reform them but the Democrats wouldn't go along. Nothing about how he signed the repeal of the Glass-Steagal Act over the votes of 44 Democrats (1 voted for).
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Ever wonder why Poppy and Bar love him like a son?
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
And, when talking about Palin, he's coming across like he wants to tongue-bathe her "little man in the canoe". Obama is going to have to win this without, and despite, the Clintons. And if he does, he should sideline them from the party establishment, no remorse, no pity. No invites to ANY party, symposium, inaugural ball, nothing!

Sadly agree...Can always do guest shots on Good Morning Elba.

the final bill was given the green light from rubin, summers and clinton. 2/3's of dems signed on to the final bill that clinton signed... the initial bills were party-line, and a veto would have stopped them. after clinton and his boys signed on, there was a veto-proof majority by far...
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I think the Obama campaign is ignoring the Clinton issue, for good reason. They cannot afford an internal battle while battling the Republican machine. Bill Clinton is taking subtle shots where ever he can because he knows the Obama campaign is not going to react without losing some of those Hilary supporters.

Clinton should keep his W.C. Fields strawberry nose out of this election.
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
A very sad commentary on what has happened to Bill Clinton. It seems he is consumed with hate since his wife lost the primary. Clearly, he will not get over it EVER. I'm assuming that he promised Hillary a victory to make up for the pain he has caused her. He could not deliver, and he is now consumed with loathing. His current plan seems to be to do what he can to cause an Obama/Biden loss so that he can again help Hillary in 2012. Too sad to say that his current behavior will NEVER again allow Hillary to win as a democrat. Perhaps she and Bill can become Liebermans. It's their only hope. He has burned the bridges.

The first thing coming to my mind this morning with the mcCain campaign was this old song from "Music Man".
    Ya Got Trouble:
"Well, either you're closing your eyes
To a situation you do now wish to acknowledge
Or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated
By the presence of a pool table in your community.
Ya got trouble, my friend, right here,
I say, trouble right here in River City. "

McCain took advice from lobbyists His campaign is riff with tons of people used to giving orders and expecting the peons below them to follow orders. Dealing with employees is a hell of a lot different than dealing with voters. Voters have a choice, employees don't and I don't believe anyone in McCain's camp understands that.

The debate is a good example of this. McCain's camp stated initially he wouldn't go UNLESS his conditions were met. Well, if you are a CEO you can get away with that kind of a proclamation, employees have to live with it. It doesn't work in politics where there is a free choice. You cannot dictate to the voters.

"Disagreeing with a Republican colleague" is going to get Huck flagged 105 Reagan points and knock him down in the GOP standings. At this rate he's never going to become a level 7D Goldwater-class Republican.

  • Collie · 1 year ago
I am completely disgusted with the Liberal attitude. Your sense of entitlement is appalling. Obama has never answered one question with a straight answer but the media acts as if he is the Devine one. You are all blinded by celebrity.

Wake up middle class America because it is we who will pay dearly if Mr. Obama is elected. He is trying to make America a socialist society but he forgot to tell you that he dear rich friends are excluded...Oprah...... If you don't think there is a whole lot of you scratch mine and I'll scratch yours going on with him you are mesmerized by all the hype.

I pray that there are enough people in this country who believe in God and accountability. We need to clean up Washington and the corruption and that can only be accomplished by two people that love, respect and honor this great country we call America. We need the leadership John McCain and Sarah Palin can give. But we the people also need to stand up and support them. They cannot do it alone. I wish Mr. Obama would realize that.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Surely you jest? I mean you did write this with snark intended didn't you?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Whenever you read a post like that just remember these few questions:

    1) What is your highest level of graduation, and where?
    2) How old do you think the earth is, thousands, or Millions of years old?
    3) What do you do for a living?

If you can get these questions answered, you can pretty much understand who you are talking to, then pummel them with little things called facts.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
No, Collie is not kidding, and don't call me Shirley
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Uh, just in case that wasn't snark, just a few thoughts. First and right at the top, there is a separation of religion and government for a reason. Belief in a god is a personal decision and has no bearing on who is or is not a better candidate. Actually, it is exactly because George Bush courted whacked out fundies that a lot of what is happening today could have been avoided.

Secondly, your beloved John McCain has been in Washington D.C. for 26 years. You want to talk about accountability let's talk about his, Where has he been for those 26 years, locked in a closet? If you go back and look at his record you will find a little matter of his accountability connected to his involvement with the Keating 5 scandal, which opened doors that lead to this financial mess of today.

And lastly, open your blinded eyes. The people of this country want HOPE not gloom, doom, and fear. While McCain changes his positions on everything every few seconds, Obama continues his straight forward message of hope for a better America. If that makes him a "celebrity" in your eyes because people flock to his message fine.

So say your prayers little fundie. Go to that tent revival and try and pray away your problems. Me, I am going to stick to the facts.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Perfectly said. I threw up a little in my mouth when I read the first part of that trolls little tirade. I did get a good belly laugh though, so for that Collie, I thank you for the ab work out.
  • Collie · 1 year ago
Is that all you can come up with, "trolls little tirade"? You can do better than that. This site is full of liberal opinion so I am not surprised to be attacked simply for having a different opinion. I thought that was what being Liberal was all about- being able to speak my mind without being attacked.

Bring back the old days when Democrat was something to be proud of. I used to be a Democrat but they are out of control now.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
OK, Collie, I'm game. What would you like to talk about? Color me in. you and I, a cup of coffee and a round table discussion. No vitrihol, no biting comments, just fair politics.

    Go....
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
I used to be a Republican until they started promoting the likes of Rove, Bush, McCain and lets not forget your new poster child for those with special needs, Sarah Palin.

McCain's first presidential decision is to place this tongue tied buffoon a weak heartbeat away from the Commander in Chief job? As Palin said about Putin, McCain has reared his head on this one.

The 50 Dumbest Things President Bush Said in His First Term

    http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/blbushd...

And here is one from McCain

    1. "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c*nt." --to his wife, Cindy, after she playfully twirled his hair and said "You're getting a little thin up there," as reported in the book The Real McCain by Cliff Schecter
  • Collie · 1 year ago
Amazing, simply because I believe in God makes me attend tent revivals. So only Liberals know the facts. Interesting. Thanks for putting me in my place. If Obama is elected that's were we will all be.

You have taken God out of everything. Maybe that is your first mistake.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
    In tents?
  • Collie · 1 year ago
You are funny Mark in Florida
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Well, Collie if you don't laugh you cry. I understand your frustration. I am frustrated too. I am a nice guy with a wide range of friends. One of my best couple friens is the Mayor of our city in FL. He is in charge of over 1.2 million people in our city. I am not some over educated partisan who does not see both sides. I really do. Trust me. I voted for Reagan, and then for Perot. Never voted for Clinton. In hind sight, I should have. I do not take politics lightly.

All I ask on both sides is to do your homework, don't listen to Fox to much, or MSNBC for that matter. Go to Factcheck.org, snopes.com. Get the facts. and make an informed decision.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
And our mayor friend is republican by the way. And frankly they see more and more that McCain is not going to be a good president. That's all I am saying. If I say more, a coups could start in this neck of the woods.
  • Collie · 1 year ago
Snopes.com happens to be a place I visit frequently. I have listened to all of the regular news programs and the newspapers and quite honestly it is hard not to see the bias. Do you believe the networks are fair to both sides? We do have a voting record in common, imagine that.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Well That is what Obama has been saying is that we have more in common than our politics suggests. He is absolutely correct about that.

One thing about bias, is in reading a story even if it makes you angry because it's not flatering to your guy, or gal is to ask yourself...well, is it true?

Our local paper is very right wing, owned by an admittedly right wing company. And it really shows. I stopped getting it. It really depends where you are regionally.
  • Collie · 1 year ago
Guess so because our midwest paper is very left wing. It gets very frustrating not being able to turn on a television or read a newspaper without hearing all the attacks. I can understand how you must feel. I would like to hear from the candidate themselves exactly where they see us in the next couple of years and what solutions they feel they can enact and be successful.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
    Yes. I agree.

I have to get some work done. I mean this when I say, Have a great weekend.

    Take care-
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Also Collie, one thing I need to add about this particualr site is that by nature most people on here are very well educated, and campy. it's like walking into a caddy gay bar.....caddy, funny, campy...

So I would take the hyperbole with a grain of salt,
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I am looking at this response and am almost speechless. (almost). Please, tell me you are just some bored college kid or something because I cannot believe anyone with a grain of sense would type that response.

Just in case you are a serious person let me first say "your welcome" in thanking me for putting you in "your place". Hmmmm, that smacks of something familiar "your place" but of course I cannot assume you mean anything racial by that remark so I will just leave it.

Here we go again with God. Really, you need to put down that bible and start reading other things. God certainly has a part in my life, I just don't try and foist my religious views on others. And above all, I do not consider God in my selection of someone to run this country, I trust what I read from many sources, not just one. If I were worried about God and politics I would certainly be worried about the possibility of a future VP with beliefs in a minister who casts out witches.

Your views hold no importance to me. Just me, but I wouldn't go to a God fearing conservative site and tell them their views are wrong. Live and let live, a good motto for all of us.
  • tacoeatingzebra · 1 year ago
on the issues, i disagree with huckabee on just about everything, but i can't help but have some respect for this man. i think for a 21st century republican (oxymoron), he's got some integrity.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
I don't agree with any of his politics, but I really enjoy watching Huckabee as candidate. In that regard, he is brilliant and a natural.
And his ongoing "endorsement" of McCain is not what you would call full-throated.
Ooops, sorry Taco, I didn't see your comment below before I wrote mine.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
What I find curious about people like Collie is that they come here expecting us to convert instantly to their camp. As though if they remind us one more time that John and Sarah are great leaders will will just surrender to the obvious logic of that statement. That somehow on their say-so we will see that despite all of the evidence to the contrary Obama will destroy, and McCain will save the middle class. Despite all the evidence their god has given them the last hope and it is Palin/McCain. Despite the obvious lying and immoral behavior, McCain is the new lamb. Despite years of promoting business without rules, he will hold the greedy accountable. That for some reason if you are not a white Republican you obviously hate your country.
People like Collie prove why we must not fail to elect a real and honorable person, Barack Obama.

People like Collie prove why a degree and a 6 figure income are not evidence of real intelligence.
  • Collie · 1 year ago
No, I don't expect you to convert but I would like to see least hateful remarks. We have enough hate in this country and this political race is making it worse.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
If you want to see "least hateful remarks" you might try thinking about how you make your comments. There are quite a few that come here with dissenting opinions. They usually don't start with "I am completely disgusted with the Liberal attitude. Your sense of entitlement is appalling" Nor do they demand we "wake up".

You see, you can make any statement you want and you will get responses. You want to start off insulting most on this blog you are going to get your fair share of insults right back.

So don't whine about what you consider hateful responses while you make nasty remarks.

antithesis of all that I hold dear and believe in. You are a shallow and
