Why aren't they supposed to leave trails? I don't get it. The only thing that article tells me is, we are exploring space and try to reach the furthest planets. But we have no clue what is going on on the Earth. Weird behavior of ours, isn't it?

meg - probably not the easiest thing to find a single celled organism waddling around on the ocean floor - sort of like the proverbial needle in a hay stack. But I agree - when you consider the $ sucked up by corporate whores war profiteering, those who live extreme lives of luxury, etc, and then you throw in the fact that little research is being carried out to protect, for example, the huge decline in bird and amphibian populations, etc, etc, etc.
Historians will look back at us and we will provide them with the evidence that modern Homo sapiens were about as selfish as Neanderthals.

Trace fossils 580 million years ago? But I thought the creationists said the world is no more 7000 years old.. Im so confused.. who do I believe? People who believe that men are born from virgins and have 2 daddies (Joseph and God) or scientists that use modern methods of examination and set out to find truths based on reasearch and reason rather than the creationists who seek to find only that which supports the pre-determined outcome they want to reach and defend?
How can we even be having this debate in the 21st century and why have we allowed myth based beliefs to invade our form of government? And then require that our elected leaders must believe in those myths or they are basically unelectable....Just how different is believing as a child in the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny and Santa Claus compared to the belief in religion based myths of men born to virgins? If I said I have a belief in a supreme being with a name that is 3 letters long and his name is Bob.. and I worship Bob every Sunday and call on Bob to make me feel safe, people would say Im confused and look at me like Im nuts but change that supreme beings name to God and I can run for office and draw up to 30-50% of the vote... thats whats crazy..
And where is the religious left.. Why have they failed to bring balance to the argument... as I heard on the radio last evening.. arguing with the far right religious base is like talking to the labrador humping your leg that thinks when he's through your shoe will have puppies...

There goes the Volume v. Surface Area argument for cell-size upper limits. My guess is that the critter's metabolism is low key - oxygen levels low - therefore, oxidative stress (a primary killer of us all) is low, etc. This cell may provide insights into longetivity - but of course that would take Science to investigate.

That's an easy one pdx. It's called facism. You wrap religion with the American flag, divide, and conquer by propaganda. The reason rePigs reject Science is because it tends to bring out the truth. Truth is the enemy of facists (GOP). Religion is the best defense against truth. With God on your lying side, how can you lose?
When I was about 8 years old I asked myself the same question. Who do I believe? A bunch of sheep hearders who lived 3,000 years ago and "had dreams" or modern day Scientists who build on millions of hours of research labor - using modern equipment like telescopes, microscopes, etc. It was an easy question for me to answer and I haven't looked back since.
