AMERICAblog: Hugo Chavez suggests invading Honduras after coup

  • scottinsf · 6 months ago
    If the writers here at Americablog do not have a basic understanding of what is going on in Honduras or Latin America in general I suggest they refrain from spouting right-wing talking points.

    @scottinsf Amen.

    "The US ties to the Honduran military and political establishment run far too deep for all of this to have gone down without at least tacit support or the turning of a blind eye by some US political or military official(s)."

    I mean, the CIA has never intervened in Latin American countries on behalf of U.S. corporate interests, right?

    While Chavez has a big mouth and sometimes does his cause more damage than good he ain't loony. He has fundamentally changed Venezuela for the better of the majority of its citizens and because of this enjoys widespread popular support throughout Central and South America.

    The power structure in the US hates Chavez because he's not their servant and is more concerned about Venezuela than about the profits of US Corporations. Sad to see that this blog has bought into the Republican/beltway view of Chavez and Latin American politics.

    Hugo has a habit of playing by the rules, the international ones, not our's.

    The U.S. imperialists have already seen Bolivia and Ven choose leaders who put the needs of their people ahead of the needs of global corporate power. Zelaya has proclaimed that he supported Chavez's policies and actions. He also wanted to legalize drugs.

    Then he's swept away.

    You do the math.

    Lay off Chavez. He's doing the best he can. He's no socialist, but he sure as shit has improved the lot of the people down there. I don't agree with everything he's doing, but a right-wing puppet that we install isn't the answer.

    We need to keep our noses out of South America. Obama has already made a statement about "intervening" in Honduras. WTF?? I'm guessing the CIA is behind the coup. Haven't we "intervened" enough!

    I think this is misleading. Hugo said he would respond if the thugs conducting the coup in Honduras invaded his embassy. That's a lot different than a pre-emptive war.

    invading an embassy, is, in fact, an act of war by international law, so Chavez wouldn't be pre-emptively invading Honduras. And beating an ambassador is really really bad joss, and borders on an act of war.
