AMERICAblog: I'm bitter about Hillary constantly mentioning "San Francisco" to curry favor with the religious right

  • ClintonHater · 1 year ago
It is important to note that Obama is for a full repeal of DOMA and Hillary is only for a partial repeal (whatever that means).

    Sounds like Hillary.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Yes, I noted that the other day on another thread.

Hillary is not only racist, she's homophobic...and uses both in her crappy campaign, trying to cover it up, of course, with high-sounding phrasing.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Clinton is full of sound and fury, signifying NOTHING. A big zilch, zero, nada...

People here in SF tend to be interesting, nonjudgmental, friendly, curious and fun. People like Billo, Dobbs and HIllary wouldn't be comfortable here.

Maybe Hillary figured out that the only gays who will vote for her are the Log Kabin Republicans. They're scared of the Bay Area too. She's over, I expect more venom to flow as she melts away.

Mayor Newsom is a Clinton superdelegate, but the City went for Obama despite the massive Clinton machine here. After casting aspersions at San Francisco, many voters have flooded the mayor's office with calls to switch to Obama. Newsom wants to run for the Senate, when Feinstein retires, who is also a Clinton backer. The old money Democrats in SF are very conservative and out of touch with the rest of the city's progressives.
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
Are we reading too much into that? It's not repeating "San Francisco" all that much, and everyone seems to be looking for any single shred of anything they can use to slam Clinton.

And let's be fair, Obama is pro-gay except when he wants to curry favor from black homophobic Christians, and he's done that more than once. I know he's *promised* us the moon and the stars, but his actions speak a lot louder than his words, and frankly I think both of them will throw us "under the bus" when they need to. Obama got there first, but a lot of people gave him a pass or tried to rationalize it away, and if you do that then you should be fair and give Hillary a pass as well.

Let's be totally fair to both candidates in terms of their vulnerabilities and issues.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    Mike H,

I see your point, BUT, San Francisco has been totally loyal to the Clintons before the California primary. Bill Clinton won here twice overwhelmingly and SF is Bill and Hill's west coast piggy bank. If you see how she said "San Francisco", you can tell she was gay-baiting. The Clintons: Either you're with them, or you're a "Judas". What she did to John, Joe, and San Francisco is so typical of them.
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
OK, I'll be honest, Nigel, I've only read the transcript, if there's something in her tone of voice that's really there -- and not projections by anti-Clinton folks! -- then I'll cede the point.
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
And, the more I think about this, isn't this EXACTLY the kind of lame, nit-picking, unimportant "issue" that we got mad at the ABC debate for glorifying in attacking Obama? How is this any different from more Rev. Wright questions, or flag lapel pin questions? We know the Clintons aren't racist or homophobic in reality, are we just so emotional and frustrated at this process that we're making mountains out of molehills?

Of course, the fundraiser wasn't even in San Francisco. It was in Kentfield, in Marin County, across the Golden Gate from the city. 200 contributors of $2300@. But I guess Hillary doesn't want to kill the golden goose by citing Marin.

What about "She's a Republican" is so difficult to understand?
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
It's not difficult to understand, you're just flat out wrong. She may be a more moderate Democrat than some would like, but she is NOT a Republican and there isn't any Republican voter who can't instantly point to dozens of ways in which she's "so liberal she's a communist."

I get that her campaign has made some major mistakes and there are legit issues with some of her positions and speeches, but it is just wrong to try to twist her into something she's not just because we're all so overwrought and strung out by this grueling never-ending campaign.
  • bradk8 · 1 year ago
I've noticed this too. Pretty much every time she mentions the "bitter" comments she has to say that they were made in San Franisco. I live in SF. When Hillary starts using the "San Francisco Democrat" label to hit Obama, she really has becoome the female Joe Lieberman.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Hillary's a Liebercrat.

Not only regarding "culture wars" but regarding her blanket guarantee that we'll get into another war to defend any country in the Middle East from aggression.

    Good catch.

According to the 2000 Census, Marin County has the highest per capita income in the country at $44,962.

we couldn't ask her about DOMA since her husband signed it into law - apparently, it would be embarrassing to her

And, as Stephie's obsequiousness equally telegraphed...Miz Hil-ree might like to dish the dirt but she don't like to take it.
Obama could have said, "Hillary knows what this type of media frenzy is like...She knows the public humiliation of a quasi-underage intern confessing to performing oral sex on her husband in the Oval Office and the resulting media frenzy and national diversion of impeachment", but he didn't.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Of course she is now using all the Republican codes for gay , she keeps saying good Americans like us, she is trying to say that Obama was insulting them and beliefs in front of those gays. She did the same thing with the black vote, somehow she figures if she can just steal this nomination by fall, the gays and blacks will not want McCain so they will have no choice to vote for her.
Hillary thinks she has a large majority of the white womens vote, so the only way to get the white male vote is to step on the gays. I knew she would come to this. That is why I cannot tolerate Hillary Clinton at all.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
PS--Isn't Hil-ree wanna them thar Noo York fem-nists??? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Let's also revisit my post of last June in which we learned that Bill Clinton was advising John Kerry to endorse the anti-gay Federal Marriage Amendment. What kind of advice do you think Bill is giving Hillary about how to reach "values voters" - well, we already know his advice, throw the gays under the bus - and do you really think she's not taking it?

    ----

    And Kerry refused

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I always thought a lot of people here were unfair to him.

a lot of people here were unfair to him

In 2004, our liberal blogosphere of youth, exiled media and the tech savvy was still toddling and Wolf Blitzer was mocking what other MSMers called "the pajama clad" and not begging people to pretty please read his blog as he and others ironically do now. Personally uploaded videos were rare and not ubiquitous and many, many people were still suffering the PTS from 2000 and 911...The MSM was deeply, deeply lodged up the Bush policy rectum and juicy Rethug scandals were just abornin'...
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
I heard someone call into Sam Seder( I think) the other day and they were from San Francisco and you could tell the person was really upset/sad on the verge of crying.... that San Francisco was being downgraded so much in the last few years....and that he noticed that this was another instance where S.F. was being "used" to make a point about a "negative" item. You could honestly tell on the radio that he was sad that SF is such a nice city and really has MANY other things about the city other than this "liberal" slant.

That is so cool Nigel....good for them

And from the Fair and Balanced "F" word network:

O’Reilly redefines ‘fair and balanced’: Find people who hate both Democrats.

O’REILLY: OK now, Karl Rove doesn’t really like Barack Obama as a political figure in this country. It’s obvious. And you really don’t like Hillary Clinton as a political figure in this country. So we figure we’d balance off the debate.

STEPHANOPOULOS: What he's going to do in this campaign is focus on what's important to the American people, on the jobs and the education. That's what the American people care about. They want to move into the future. They don't want to be diverted by side issues, and they're not going to let the Republican attack machine divert them.

Hillary's poll driven campaign splices and dices every demographic and panders to each group accordingly. It might have worked in the early 90s but today's blogosphere with its citizen journalism exposes such craven cynicism. Theda Skocpol has an article at HuffPo discussing "Screw 'Em"-gate wherein she writes,

" Hillary Clinton was among the most cold-blooded analysts in attendance. She spoke of ordinary voters as if they were a species apart, and showed interest only in the political usefulness of their choices -- usefulness to the Clinton administration, that is."

The Clintons have no core beliefs except their own self-interest.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
These daily polls gives Hillary false hope. I am tired of spineless leaders that are afraid of the Clinton's.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
I wonder why nobody calls her on it.

ala 'why do you keep bringing up San Francisco? Obama's comments were made in MARIN Co... not San Francisco.'

if she ceded the point... would she explain why San Francisco seems to be popping up in speeches?

I'd love to have some honest reporter play dumb as to the nature of the usage... and ask her, "what's wrong with San Francisco? their economy seems to be working, crime isn't a major factor, business is growing and the city is beautiful. Isn't it a kind of model for what every large metropolis should aim for?"

I'd love to hear her stutter.

    Global hunger rising....

"Why are these riots happening?" asked Arif Husain, senior food security analyst at the World Food Program, which has issued urgent appeals for donations to help the Haitis of the world. "The human instinct is to survive and people are going to do no matter what to survive. And if you're hungry you get angry quicker. We see that around the world."

i am not surprised at any of this. if she being the wife of "the first black president" can play the race card every other day, she can certainly be expected to play the homophobe.
what amazes me though is that she (or her organization) seem to think that this will attract republican votes.
    it's silly.

  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I don't know why anyone would be surprised at Hillary's demonization of San Francisco as she (and her campaign) have demonstrated to us all that they have aligned themselves with the far right. Not merely the Republicans, no Saree, but the FAR right a la the likes of Richard Mellon Scaife, Murdoch, Karl Rove among others.

Hillary is running AGAINST the Democratic Party, but still trys to use them for her own gain. I am quite sure that the threats and deals that her campaign has made with some Dem's will come to the light of day at some point, but in the meantime we can only read, watch and hear the silent threats that are being uttered against anyone who dares to critique the Clinton's.
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
Well, I don't necessarily agree that Hillary has truly gone that far right -- she still has plenty of positions that GOPers loathe -- but let's flip this around for a moment. The Clintons were rock stars in the 1990s, and took a LOT of heat from the GOP, totally undeserved heat, slimey made-up innuendo, the worst of the worst, and a lot of Dems didn't even have their back. They publically staked out some risky -- at the time-- positions on gays in the military and universal health care, and again took some serious political hits, and ended up having to fall back into compromises that neither of them were particularly happy with, but as most Democrats agree, compromise is part of the political game. And then, after years of this GOP abuse AND fighting on behalf of the Democrats, when Hillary take her substantial intellect and throws her hat in the ring, she starts to take similar abuse -- from her own side. So-called progressives getting meaner and more vicious about her, even before her own campaign went uber-negative.

There are some people on her own side who hated her for no particularly good reasons long before her campaign gave them ammo, and that's sad, and I cannot imagine how frustrating it must be.

And you know... should Obama get elected, and turn out to be nowhere near as progressive as people hope -- and given his actual voting record, he really isn't a progressive -- I wonder if ten years down the line or so the same kind of people won't be slamming him as well.

Some of us are so uncompassionate towards politicians that I'm amazed anyone wants the job at all.

Such good news, Sage24. Sam Nunn is a Big "get."

It is not possibe for the Neos (as represented by Hillary Rotten Clinton and John McCain) to complete the 2000 coup of our government without the US being "at war." Do not forget that earlyon she stated the US would be in Iraq until 2013 and perhaps even for 50 more years. And don't doubt that, unless Bush beats her to it, the next step is Iran.

Regardless her shiteous, lying - straightup and by innuendo as pointed out in this post - campaign, the majority of the country rejects what she offers.

We are better than we seem.

Prezz, thanks. I didn't know that Nunn is a GE board member.

On 2nd thought about Nunn, as it becomes obvious that Obama will be our next president we will see more corporatists slither their voices into continued prominence. We need them now, but Never Forget.
