AMERICAblog: I'm mad at Barack Obama

  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
Really, the only reason I voted for the hypocrite is because I thought he would continue the policies of the past and appoint Bush's cabinet as his. I mean if you are going to embrace your enemies like he did Hillary how about putting wise people like Limbaugh, Gingrich and Palin in the top jobs of the Administration. Now that would be the change this right of center nation could believe in!

Confession: when I typed in Hillary the first time it came out Hitler. I am apparently channeling Rush Limbaugh tonight.
  • lark83 · 11 months ago
I was wondering where you were going with this.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 11 months ago
Would it kill him to appoint Harvey Fierstein our Secretary of Defense?
  • jeffk · 11 months ago
I love a good snark, and this is *definitely* a good snark!

Hell, this is destined to be a classic. People is gonna be quoting it for years!

Did Sarah Palin hack your computer, John?

Is CQ the home of Assrocket?

Love the tone of this. Brilliant. Am so sick of the bipartisanship talking points we are fed daily like mindless sheep whenever a democratic politician happens to win. Lets hear more about Obama's Progressive Mandate and how this country is Center Left especially if you subtract Appalachia. Thats where No Child Left Behind really failed IMHO.
  • cmpnwtr · 11 months ago
Gen. Jones is a repug, and so is Robert Gates. I think the promise was Rs in the govt. not the cabinet. Didn't the Repugs say they were against quotas?
  • KerrynowCampau · 11 months ago
Global warming exists? Oh, sure now that Obama is voted in it becomes real.....if we had just elected McCain it wouldn't have.

End Global Warming Vote McCain 2012
  • SkippyFlipjack · 11 months ago
It's my understanding that in an Obama administration each state is going to continue to be represented by two senators. That, my friends, is not change we can believe in. That's the old inside-the-Beltway mentality, nothing more.

The Latinos are angry that Richardson is the only hispanic appointed so far. And not to Secretary of State. Well I'm sorry, but the ECONOMY is the number one problem in America, notwithstanding the fear mongering by Republicans. So, putting Richardson in charge of the economy would seem to be a key plum assignment.

Hey, where are all the Scandinavian cabinet members?
  • Phil · 11 months ago
I hope this was snark. Yes, there are some republicans who are highly qualified, but in terms of accomplishing Obama's agenda (whatever that will be), it's beneficial to him, and the country, to have a like-minded team behind him. Gates was an excellent choice. Did you have any other suggestions?
  • John Aravosis · 11 months ago
No, I seriously believe that Obama needs to add some white children to his family to diversify his message.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 11 months ago
maybe a transgendered pet as well? just to round out the diversity family.

wait a minute, that wouldn't sit well with them either...

    scratch that, no transgendered pet.

He should get some cats, too, not just dogs.

    Maybe some gay penguins.

    Or Asian of any kind.
  • Phil · 11 months ago
It'll be interesting to see what he does add. Like you, I believe he needs to maintain some diversity of opinion, but after such a train wreck with the economy (I myself was a victim two weeks ago), I would like to see a 180 turn in direction.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 11 months ago
egad... I left a comment on CQ's site. is there any such thing as Journalism anymore??

This is almost as bad as paying executives millions of dollars... why would anyone pay this hack ANYTHING to write this garbage?
  • MaudGonne · 11 months ago
Have you heard the rumor that Mel Martinez is going to quit so that Crist can name Jeb Bush as Senator from Florida???
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 11 months ago
    it makes sense.

just what we as a country need... yet another bush in politics.

he'll probably run with palin in 2012.

This is exactly why he should have thrown Joe Lieberman to the wolves.

No matter what concessions he makes, it will NEVER BE ENOUGH.

You can't please crazy people. It just can't be done.
  • anarchy · 11 months ago
Ron Mael of the band SPARKS wrote a song
some years ago which I've been quoting for
    just as long.. it goes:

    "everybody's stupid"

that goes for you, me, and the other guy.

trust me on this: if anybody's going to fuck
something up it'll be a human being.
  • Older_Wiser · 11 months ago
    Excellent snark, John!
  • Hillblogger · 11 months ago
Did Obama actually say he would appoint Republican stalwarts to his cabinet?

I don't think so... bipartisan president he is surely but he doesn't have to go as far as appoint Bush's cronies. After 8 years of failed leadership, do you actually think you should trust any Republican today?

Good enough that Obama is being conciliatory but to go as far as trusting these Republican wogs, you gotta be bonkers mad!

He spoke of change, i.e., from a failed leadership to a working leadership.
  • hawkseye · 11 months ago
    "Wogs" ?????
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
    OMG, someone just accused me of "blind adoration" for this hypocrite (Damn, he's is cute, smart, cool and probably the messiah) I am indignant! {swoon}
  • Mark in Florida · 11 months ago
I don't recall that Obama said he would actually place republicans on his cabinet. It's OK. John. He will however let them have an opinion and a seat at the table. Which has not happend since tip Oneal. It will be OK, I promise. Don't be mad. :-)
  • dula · 11 months ago
Actually aren't some of his economic appointees Republican: Larry Summers for one. Besides, at this point, many Democrats are really Moderate Republicans anyway. I've seen Obama appoint Center-right people but how many Center-left or God forbid true Progressives are on the list?
  • Deb · 11 months ago
Stop it, John. Give him a chance to take the oath. What makes you think that Lieberman isn't going to stab him in the back again? He can't give up too much ground. It just isn't safe. Let him govern. Give him a chance. THEN comment.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
Sarcasm is so lost on people!
  • John Aravosis · 11 months ago
The best part is complaining that Obama didn't have any white children, and people still take it seriously.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
Thanks for the levity, see I do have a sense of humour.
  • David Sands · 11 months ago
The far right finally fell off the map. Who listens to people concerned about gay rights or global warming not existing. Who can argue with faulty reality? Bush, the worst president in history, governed for who? Demoocrats? Only a person living on a dessert island would believe such nonsense. You know-- the island that isnt effected by global warming.

Tell me its all obamas fault even though he isnt even president yet. Or tell me how you respect your commander in -chief even though he is a democrat. The wussy democrat is gone and the work out, pray right' and true familly values is back.
  • mattycakes · 11 months ago
John, why would you be mad at Barack Obama? Haven't you had enough Republicans for the last 8 years? Haven't they almost bankrupted your country and given billions of taxpayer's hard earned money to the big banks? I think your change is "Barack Obama" himself, and no Republican appointee will make a big change, since they had 8 years, and went along with Bush all the way.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
    It is sarcasm.
  • DAB · 11 months ago
I give him a pass on the kids. They're both actually 1/4 white, so he's got the diversity thing set there.

As far as appointing Repugnicans to his cabinet to make it more "bipartisan" -- hey, I'll yell for this too, if it means Olympia Snowe or Arlen Specter get eased into retirement by way of the executive branch (and the Democratic governors of their states appoint their successors). Go big bipartisan, Barry! Appoint 'em both! How about Interior for Snowe and Veterans Affairs for Specter?
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
It just amazes me that so many took this as a serious rant.
  • RainbowPhoenix · 11 months ago
Never underestimate the stupidity of men.
  • John Aravosis · 11 months ago
I learned long ago that someone will always not get a joke. That doesn't mean you stop telling jokes. You just start worrying less about some people ;-)
  • RainbowPhoenix · 11 months ago
Apparently you're one of those people in this case.
  • John Aravosis · 11 months ago
I also learned a long time ago that people seem to misinterpret comments left and right - you agree with someone, and then they attack you for it ;-)
  • RainbowPhoenix · 11 months ago
Since I apparently wasn't clear before, I'm using my own twisted sense of humor here. I'm a very snarky person.
  • mirth · 11 months ago
John, please, a /snark at the end of your sarcastic posts.

    'Cause some people...
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
cause some people...can't see the forest for the trees...
  • mirth · 11 months ago
'cause some people...wouldn't know snark if it was plainly written.

    Hi Fireblazes :)
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
Hi Mirth I was just wondering about you today...and here you are. Good to
    hear from you
  • mirth · 11 months ago
Fireblazes, my online time is limited but my home renovation skills are increasing. I've learned how to repair studs (not the good kind, I'm sad to report - altho, now that I think about it, I've repaired a few of those kinds of studs in my time. Or maybe it was vice versa. Or maybe just vice. Anyway...) and hang & mud wallboard. Coming up: laying and grouting tile. Such fun! I'm pretty sure I was a carpenter in another life.

Good to say Hi to you, too.
  • willnyc · 11 months ago
    John,
LOVE your site, your input, and your breadth of knowledge. For many years now, I've been coming here first thing every morning to find out what's happening with "my" kind of people. But a little healthy criticism? There's a huge difference between being sarcastic and being snide. Your entry was so insider and snarky that it was the logical equivalent of a snake swallowing its own tail.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 11 months ago
Especially the part about having only black children.
  • wmforr · 11 months ago
After eight years of an Administration that has shown Maoist fervor in filling the Federal Government with idealogically pure incomtepetents, the Republicans should not be allowed to *utter* the word "bipartisan".
  • David Sands · 11 months ago
john, youre so funny and witty. please dont make me laugh again. it hurts. could you give me a warning the next time that you arent funny. Oh I get it! you even have a spin on bad jokes. Please stop telling jokes!
  • Richard Rolsen · 11 months ago
Considering Obama has only picked half of his Cabinet, and has two Conservatives on it already (Robert Gates and General Jim Jones), this CQ article doesn't make any sense.
  • RitornaVincitor · 11 months ago
Barack is trying, but the Republicans keep hanging up on him. Florida GOP congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen hung up on Obama yesterday about a minute into the call that Obama had placed to her to let her know he was looking forward to working with her on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. She assumed that it was one of those crank calls, and she didn't want to be Palined. So then Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel calls to tell her it really was Obama, and she hangs up on him! Eventually Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Howard Berman was able to convince her that it really was Obama calling, and he wanted to talk with her. Hey! Anyone want to get through to congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen? Phone her right now. Be sure to say that you're President Elect Barack Obama. I'm sure she'll take the call.
  • Joe the Cynic · 11 months ago
    Luv the sarcasm.
