Wow, welcome to the Democratic firing squad. When will Clinton surrogates learn that the only thing this type of stuff does is hurt the chances of the party in November. There are very few winners to be had by trying to exploit Wright to get votes. Clinton ends up looking even more like she doesn't care about the party, just her ambition, and Obama ends up damaged goods. This is one of those few times I wish I was in the GOP because watching Clinton and her "people" continuously taking tacky and vicious attacks at Obama must be fun to watch.
The really bad part about this is that Obama has already admitted that he didn't agree with everything Wright said but taking everything in total, he saw more good in his church/pastor than bad. This is how things are in the real world, it isn't so tidy as a simple "right or wrong", it never is. The problem is politicians try to polarize the public with feeble attempts like this, pushing whatever issue is in focus into some binary yes or no decision that "must" be made. In real life, people have complicated relationships with other people that sometimes aren't that easy to explain. When political hitmen stop focusing on that and start focusing on how to, gasp, make government better, we might start saving the sinking ship!
Senator Clinton and her people still don't seem to get why they have lost and will continue to lose this fight. They are so focused on scorching the earth, assassinating their competition, and outright lieing to get votes, they forget that maybe their best weapon may have been to simply offer something better than the other guy. I don't want to hear about how Obama "isn't" this or that, I want to hear about how Clinton "is". The hour is late and perhaps next time Clinton will not run a campaign based on breaking the kneecaps of her fellow party members, but I doubt it.

Where are the religious leaders to weigh in on Rev. Wright? Yes, the clips shown on the news were shocking. But the words "God damn America for treating some people as less than human" erupt from anger at the maltreatment of some people. Do we really think that God will bless America for its racism? or its torturing of prisoners? or its justice system that puts innocent people in prison for years? or its police that beat its citizens? There are a lot of good things about the United States. But that doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to what isn't good. I'm really beginning to resent the attitude that we are the best, we have the best health care system, we have the best form of government, our economy is the best. It may be the best for some, but we're leaving a lot of people behind. Perhaps that is the intent of Rev. Wright's words - to shock us into reality. Only then can we fix the things that are wrong. This white, Christian would like to hear more of Rev. Wright's sermons. He might have some really good insights and it would certainly be much more fair to judge him on a larger body of his sermons than a few snippets cherry-picked from a lifetime of preaching.

Drudge has a big new story about Hillary: "What kind of person would go to work for a Clinton in the first place? A naive true-believer? Everyone knows what they would be getting into: constant war rooms, personal attacks, spin, daily damage control, a boss prone to temper tantrums, placing your own integrity out on the ledge as a shill for a fundamentally dishonest person. I would argue that nobody who hasn't already sold their soul years ago would ever want to be a part of that mess."
I really respect Matthew Drudge and Camille Paglia for speaking out against the Clintons when it wasn't PC.

Specifically, I was referring to the three quotes which the WSJ letter indicated.
- "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye. We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost." -- Sept. 16, 2001 (the first Sunday after 9/11)
Yep, and we've supported a lot more state terrorism than that.
- "The government . . . wants us to sing God Bless America. No, no, no. God damn America; that's in the bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human." -- 2003
Yep, done that too. Poor word choice, perhaps, but it's not a factually incorrect statement.
- "The United States of White America." -- July 22, 2007
There's certainly evidence to support that. See U.S. History, roughly 1776-2008 (more so in 1776-1970, but certainly still there).
The WSJ letter called all three of those statements untrue or factually invalid, and that is not the case.

That's the wrong metric -- no matter how many times you ask the same question.
The proper question is what is her likelihood of getting 2,025 and what does she have to do to make that happen. Under the current circumstances, she could conceivably get the 2,025, but it would require a slash-and-burn, salt-the-earth policy that would destroy the party for at least 10 years.

No they're not caught up in it which is pretty surprising. Had that been a white man with the same anti-race and anti-Semitic redderic it would be a hell of a big difference. Why? Because Sharpton & Co. were not on the front steps of his church making rhymes. That's the difference. Had this been a , hmm let's say a white radio DJ making jest then we would have controversy.
Better yet, let's make it a white preacher of a white politician with similar redderic then the media would have a field day. Regardless of what Obama say's are 4 or 5 snippets. This is a bunch of malarkey and if the Dems want to go that route fine. I'm off the train and jumping onto the other side.
Yeah, Hillary or other politicians have never been called a nigger or never had a cab whiz by them. But Reverend White has never had a job or a promotion passed by because of affirmative action to a lesser qualified individual. Hey that’s just like a cab passing by isn’t it?
He also states the Barack is not white and was held down by rich white people. He also says Jesus was a “black” man controlled by rich “white” people, the Italians. His logic is since Italy is in Europe than Italians are white. Hmmm I am Italian and I know my parents had to elope because of my dads race. Yes we were looked upon in the same light. I guess the big difference is Italians worked their way out of that stereotype instead of looking for that free hand-out out or entitlement and it didn’t take 200 years.
Why are they not making it? Because Roadblocks are made from Bricks of Excuses!
Again, my OLD democratic friends. What if this had been a white man talking about black people.
You guessed it. Sharpton holding hands and rhyming away. Opportunists like them are the cause and effect for racism as it stands today. It’s like when we use the word Kleenex we think of tissue even though Kleenex is the Brand Name. When the word racism is used we only think of white on black. Guess what? The white race is not the only race that has idiotic racists in their midst. Wise up America, wise up or shut up.

All Hillary cares about is Hillary, not the Democratic party. If she wants to stay in the race despite the fact that she can't win the nomination, the least she could do is run a civil, above-the-board campaign that is focused on the issues and focused on making the case for her candidacy. But that would be too much to ask of Hillary. Instead, she flails around with a scorched earth strategy, trying to use every dirty trick and smear tactic she can think of to somehow snatch this nomination. It's not working, and it won't work. I really think that Hillary now just wants to make sure that Obama loses in November, so that she can try again for the presidency in four years. Her entire campaign has been a low point.

The Clinton camp is just reeking of desperation...and will use any method--unfortunately for them, it's going to backfire. Too many of us can see right through their tactics, and racism isn't going to get them anywhere. Maybe with old ladies (but not this one) who grew up with racism and didn't learn a fucking thing in the 60s, but I'll stake my future with young people. After all, it's going to be their world to live in and not mine sooner than I'd like.
For chrissakes, I'll be glad when we get rid of these greedy, self-centered boomers who support Clinton and let younger, more agile minds plan for their own future. The key to identifying who the GOP is really afraid of is to see who they are attacking most viciously. If you look at GOP blogs over the last 12-18 months, overwhelmingly they've posted the most vile, ruthless attack pieces against Obama and his family. At the same time, the leading Republican blogs and news sites have posted almost glowing stuff about Hillary, complimenting her policies and persona. It's obvious to me that the GOP are scared as hell of Obama and that's why they have been relentlessing complimenting and praising Hillary. Their agenda is so transparent.

Except the election isn't over. And you're really a liar to keep trotting this out. What part of the Democratic election process don't you understand? To declare it over would mean Obama has the number of delegates necessary to win the nomination in Denver. To say Clinton is attempting a superdelegate coup would be to suggest that she is illegally trying to get superdelegates to vote for her. Neither of these is true. So why do you insist on saying these things?
Cindy411

"To declare it over would mean Obama has the number of delegates necessary to win the nomination in Denver."
With superdelegate crossover, and huge support from Independents, Obama has already exceeded the victory threshold as far as I know. No Democrat in history, except of course power-hungry Billary, has continued on in a Primary race for the nomination when they are losing by hundreds of electoral votes.
"To say Clinton is attempting a superdelegate coup would be to suggest that she is illegally trying to get superdelegates to vote for her."
But that is precisely what is happening. As Josh Marshall at TPM has noted as well as others, Shillary is specifically trying to buy off superdelegates in backroom cash deals. This should not be any surprise as Hillary and Slick Willie were the top proponents of creating a superdelegate system during the 90's in order to preserve the delegates at the time they they had bought off by selling access to the Lincoln bedroom. They are a corrupt family to the core. And no I don't make an exception for Chelsea. Just like her mother, during a press conference she tried to cover for Bill's perjury and sexual immorality by getting all prissy and attacking the reporter. The Clintonistas are interested in power and power only.

Over or not-over, the campaign is beginning to leave a nasty impression. The slash-and-burn is already happening, the impact on the Democratic Party is negative, and as for the future, if Obama can have an substantial impact in Pennsylvania, all might turn out well enough. I'm not optimistic.

Think Lanny knows we are going to be voting for Obama and not his old Pastor? Because if any have read "Dreams From My father", Obamas first book, they would know that Obama rejected much of the ideology of black extremism while building his career in Chicago.
Obama describes talking about 'X' and Farakahn during this time, exploring their message, and rejecting these attitudes, as he did some of the more radical statements of Wright. The UCC came out in support of Wright, as has the Pastor of the DC Church Clinton attends, among others.
Why confuse the totality of Obamas philosophy with another man? Obama is his own man, a polyglot with a unique view of the world because of his multicultural background. It is this broad view of the world that makes him a great candidate for president at this point in history...

That's just not true at all. It is not uncommon for candidates to concede elections when only 30-40 percent of the votes have been counted. Wise people look at trends and calculate that their chances of winning are between zero and none -- and they declare it over.
If Hillary were to arm wrestle convention votes away from Obama in Denver with threats and intimidation (for which the Clintons are famous), and political maneuvering, I think you can almost count on a 50-state rout for her in the GE. She'd be lucky to pick up Massachusetts.
These tactics would turn off the all-important independents who will decide this election -- not to mention Republicans who are looking to make things change, and the Reagan Democrats.

"If Hillary were to arm wrestle convention votes away from Obama in Denver with threats and intimidation (for which the Clintons are famous), and political maneuvering, I think you can almost count on a 50-state rout for her in the GE."
This is very important to note. In a recent poll (I think Zogby), more Obama supporters said they wouldn't vote for Hillary if she won the nomination than vice-versa. I think it was 25% approximately. A significant number of Obama supporters simply see the Clintons as a bunch of corrupt shills without morality and certainly anti-family. If Hillary wins the nomination, we would rather see McCain take the Presidency. I know this really riles up the Hillbots, but it's the truth.
The additional caveat is that if Obama wins the Democrat nomination and then goes on to lose the general election, it will be blamed solely on Hillary and her adulterous husband. Obama is pretty much immune from criticism if he loses against McCain, so for us it is a win/win as Hillary will absorb all the anger.
Mike_H
I can't see how Obama is blameless if he wins the nomination but loses the general election. After the buildup he's been given, failure will destroy his future.
That's the danger with the extreme versions of Obamania. This idea that "Hillary would be to blame" is a bit silly, or overly "conspiracy theory", to be taken seriously by anyone outside the blogosphere.
And any Obamaniac who would prefer McCain to be president over Clinton is clearly anti-American, preferring to dis the country because "their" candidate didn't win. That's childish and immature, cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Obama is a better man that many of his supporters. And he will almost certainly lead the call to support Clinton should she be the nominee.
Mike_H
*sigh* I know it will be an unpopular truth, but it is NOT over. Not until Clinton bows out OR sufficient superdelegates declare themselves one way or the other to allow one of the candidates to pass the finish line.
Until then, it is NOT over, no matter how much wishful thinking, spin, speculation, calculation, or supposition you make.
You can say it's practically over, that Clinton is a longshot, that it seems unlikely for the superdelegates to swing the vote for Clinton because of the uproar and chaos that would cause, but to say definitively that it IS over is simply false reporting or wishful thinking.

It should be apparent by now that Clinton knows she has lost this nomination but prefers to see McCain win to give herself another chance in four years, especially if McCain ends up only serving one term. This is a what's-good-for-Hillary strategy no matter how bad it is for the country.

Lanny Davis, despicable Democrat with limited talents, is consciously aiding and abetting the GOP. But it's the Clinton's who set out to attack and destroy their enemies. Maybe this would read better if you bothered to discuss the substance of Davis' concerns before you dismissed them.
Is it so beyond your comprehension that someone might actually have legitimate concerns about Barack Obama, not only as a candidate but as a President? Are you truly foolish enough to believe that McCain, who is introduced by people who have no problem raising the race issue in McCain's introduction (as reported on AmericaBlog), is not going to be running TV spots with Pastor Wright in every major market in the fall? Are you that blind to history that you have no realistic fears of the Republican attack machine?
I'm reminded of 2004. Kerry couldn't possibly lose, America wanted ABB -- Anybody But Bush. And liberals (including me, a liberal libertarian) could not even conceive of a path to defeat for the Democrats. And Barack supporters are setting us up again because anyone who criticizes Barack is demonized and dismissed.
Wake up -- by all accounts Obama and McCain are within a few percentage points of each other. McCain is a known entity, he has nowhere to go but up. Barack is an unknown entity and if we continue to refuse to even discuss his potential weaknesses now, it will be 2004 all over again.

There is a serious problem with the Clinton's. Husband and wife are at odds with NAFTA. Wife (during husbands presidency) speaks out against China's stance on women's rights record. Husband as president removes human rights standards from China's Most Favored Nation requirements. There is an imbalance here in there relationship to each other and raises the question of an imbalance in the presidency.

Neither Sen. Clinton nor Sen. Obama have "won"; therefore, Sen. Clinton has not "lost". Neither candidate has the required 2025 delegates that would confirm their nomination. Neither can get the 2025 delegates that are required, prior to the convention, unless the superdelegates short-circuit the process. See you at the convention.

As for the convention, Hillary's intentions are to create as big a mess as she possibly can. She'll never accept Howard Dean's request that all this campaigning be finished by July 1st.
For chrissakes, I'll be glad when we get rid of these greedy, self-centered boomers who support Clinton and let younger, more agile minds plan for their own future. It's going to be up to my 17 and 20 yr old grandchildren,, not us, and we have no right to hamstring them with our ignorant selfishness.
I think Gore needed his Rubicon of the 2000 election to really grow and I think Mrs. Clinton will undergo similar ego-minimizing growth after her defeat finally dawns on Team Hillary...that and maybe a good nap.
I agree with most of what Wright said. America has done some shitty things to minorities, women, gays...anybody who isn't an inbred redneck.
They stand in a circle and start shooting.
at least hannity and limpballs are up-front about their wingnuttery.
and i've got to say as a white female, born in the USA and raised in the methodist church, Rev. Wright is absolutely right. there's nothing wrong with calling America on it's racism and hatred and wrongness, and all the concern troll patriots and christofascists can put that in their pipes and smoke it. just because you don't like to hear it, doesn't mean Wright is wrong.

Does this guy by chance explain why Rev. Wright was a guest at the clinton White House along with other religious leaders??
I mean... if he's THAT bad, why was bill cozying up to him?
"To say Clinton is attempting a superdelegate coup would be to suggest that she is illegally trying to get superdelegates to vote for her."

The thing is... it isn't illegal. unethical? yes. dirty politics that ignore the will of the people? yes. illegal? no.
that's what's so fubar about our election system in this country.
"Clinton is being upstaged in many respects by the Barack Obama juggernaut....
Except the election isn't over. And you're really a liar to keep trotting this out.
What part of the Democratic election process don't you understand? To declare it over would mean Obama has the number of delegates necessary to win the nomination in Denver.
See you at the convention.
As for the convention, Hillary's intentions are to create as big a mess as she possibly can. She'll never accept Howard Dean's request that all this campaigning be finished by July 1st. And she'll have a former president, her husband, backing her. She's refusing to accept defeat. Now that's democracy!

That is so offendingly hateful!
WTF?
