AMERICAblog: In Maine, Women rule

  • Chris From Maine · 11 months ago
    I would shorten it to..

    Maine Rules! :)
  • EmGD · 11 months ago
Well done Maine. Though honestly, I could deal with about two less women (Snowe and Collins) in your power structure and still be able to sleep at night. Or not, just replace them with Democrat women. Or dogs that are trained to vote for progressive issues. Please. It'll make it easier to deal with the impending election of Chris Matthews in my state.

Do you really think Tweety will have a snowbunny's chance in heck?
Does he think videotape from 1996 thru 2005 has gone poof?
Just like JEB, I'm giving it "careful consideration".

Proof that gender really shouldn't count, simply competence. If these women were competent, intelligent, decent, good intentioned people, they would be Democrats.

And to think we owe it all to Sarah Palin who paved the way for competent women in politics everywhere.

    /sarcasm

Here in Kentucky some guy named "God" is trying to run things and take credit for a terrorist-free Mammoth Cave...
  • cowboyneok · 11 months ago
Yea, that guy gets pissed at Kentucky trying to define him down to a bigot all the time! He usually prefers it when people think of he/she as "the great mystery" or "G-d" but those Kentuckians keep trying to make him some Rambo like KKKristian who loves the rich, and hates the gays... Not all Kentuckians, there are some progressives, but we all know who I'm talking about.

I like women. The more the merrier.
    Enjoy.

Off topic, but this might put you into a holiday state of mind.
However, after seeing the video, don't attack the guy for not taking the money it takes to put on this light display going to feeding the poor. Sometimes it's nice to see American creativity at work, and smile.

Thank god the Governor is still a man, :-) so there is still hope for the Y chromosome..

No one should be discriminated because of gender, but as long as the state officials are competent should be the concern
  • cowboyneok · 11 months ago
The glass ceiling cracking is great, but I'd prefer more DEMOCRATIC MAINE WOMEN in the Senate!
  • hopeless pedant · 11 months ago
In New Hampshire the new State Senate will be a majority female. 2 of its 4 Reps/Sens are female.

Arizona a few years ago had all-female elected executive officials.

Be interesting to see what they do with the budget.

7 out of every 10 Mainers in College are women. 90% of the kids on Ritalin, are boys.

    Women rule alright.
  • vkobaya · 11 months ago
Maybe there should be an affirmative action law to help boys graduate college. <g>

In neighboring NH, the State Senate is the first in the country to have a majority of women. Of the 24 state senators, 11 are Democratic women, and 2 are Republican women. The speaker of the house and the president of the senate are women. We re-elected Carol Shea Porter, the first woman from NH in Congress, and added Jeanne Shaheen in the US Senate.

Bloom- Are the stats in NH as dismall for men as the stats are in ME? I am not against celebrating strong women, but when one sex is medicated and shut out of education... it might be time to re-examine things.

What % of the NH population in College is male?

Governor Ann Richards had a fabulous line when speaking at a college in Massachusetts. She was introduced by the manager of the speaker series (a woman), by one of the college's deans (a woman), and then by the college's president (a woman). She began by saying (in her inimitable accent, with her wonderful smile) "I'm so pleased to be here in Salem, where men and men--and women are in charge."

Note to EmGD: Olympia Snowe shouldn't be judged by the R after her name. She's an actual independent thinker who makes me proud to be from Maine, and I wish her colleague Collins would follow her lead more often.
