AMERICAblog: In slip up, Palin calls Afghanistan “our neighboring country”

  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I've been to more countries than I thought....lol
In all fairness, I have been to some states where I thought I was in a foreign country.

Someone should ask her where is Rhode Island. I bet should could not find it on a map or maybe she thinks it is part of NY. When I tell people not from the Northeast that I went to Rhode Island for the weekend, they always think I meant Long Island.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
you know what? i don't think that was a gaffe. somewhere in the recesses of her cerebellum, she thinks the US has annexed iraq. the gaffe was thinking iraq borders afghanistan, something she picked up from her boss.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
you took my words. she sees a small world in her small mind
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
actually i should have said it sounds like a freudian gaffe, one that accidentally reveals a hidden thought.
  • RainbowPhoenix · 1 year ago
I'm almost excited to see how low she can fall.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
    she may speak in tongues
  • smiling_dog · 1 year ago
She can see Afghanistan from her kitchen, too!
  • Gary SF · 1 year ago
This is not a gaffe - when the US attacks Russia (as Palin wishes to do) and makes them our 51st state, Afghanistan will be our neighbor. She is just 'thinking ahead.'
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I think you might have hit the nail on the head here, Gary. One more trip by Putin over Alaska and Palin's going to send out her national guard.
  • decotodd · 1 year ago
Did anyone watch "Mad Men" tonight? Betty and Don visit her dad who has had a stroke. The actor who played her father resembles McCain (erratic, shouting out inappropriate things, confused) and his wife resembles Claire McCaskill! I've been watching too much political coverage!
  • zavlin · 1 year ago
wow please tell me there is video of this
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
    Palin makes this so easy.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
This is a win/win for McCain. Even if he loses this battle, he throws doubts about foreign contributors to Obama's campaign. The little asshole will stop at nothing to slime his way into the Oval Office.

"GOP to file fundraising complaint against Obama
    2 hours, 56 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - The Republican National Committee plans to file a fundraising complaint against Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign Monday, alleging it has accepted donations that exceed federal limits as well as illegal contributions from foreigners."

Real honorable campaign he promised to run, huh? McCain is a typical dishonorable Republican.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
No honor among thieves, cowboy. And Republicans are thieves.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Ummm, that might backfire as well, since there was an English "Lord" that threw a huge fundraiser for McCain a while back...

Notice in the article that they feel impelled to discuss Biden's gaffe in relation to the MOSTLY UNKNOWN VARIABLE Sarah Palin. We all know Joe Biden makes gaffes here and there but we trust him as a leader because he has been around. On the other hand, for the very short time we've known Sarah Palin she has been an absolute gaffe machine! Its non-stop with her, and her gaffes show more than something more easily confused like Roosevelt reassuring a nation on television during the Great Depression. By the way, I'm sure Biden problem saw some film footage of him at some time and confused the two, but MY GOD describing Afghanistan as a neighboring country? Give me a break. Journalists need to just stop with trying to appease Republicans with comparing huge multiple gaffes by UNKNOWN VARIABLE Sarah Palin with gaffes of more minor importance and less frequency by the WELL KNOWN Senator Joe Biden. I guess we should just be grateful the reporter didn't quote Cokie Roberts and her false assertion the word "Bosniaks" by Joe Biden was a gaffe?
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Ms. Palin's aren't exactly gaffes in the usual sense, ie she misspeaks.... Ms. Palin clearly DOESN'T KNOW or UNDERSTAND what she's talking about and just starts rambling on...
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
The stupid chick wearing the "Palin is my home girl!" t-shirt needs to be reminded she is everyone's "home girl" but we need SMART GIRLS to be President NOT "home girls" that speak like they've had to go to SIX colleges to graduate with a broadcast journalism degree.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
cowboy, I noticed the women who support Palin, every single one of them, relate to her. Damn these women are too stupid to know their president should be smarter and politically more adept than they are.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
    too stupid for words!
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Conservatives have got to be deeply embarrassed by Palin......a few have spoken up but the rest just continue the facade, in the hope Americans are still dumb enugh to believe them 8 years later.

If they weren't embarrassed by her gibberish we would be seeing her on shows like Meet the Press and others...
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
She fundraised in Orange County. I can understand that.

Now she is in Nebraska spouting her crap. I smell desperation.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Aw cut her a break, she went to Nebraska just to make sure it really was a state. (snark) What I can't figure out is how First Dude is constantly by her side. Doesn't the man work? Who is taking care of the kids?
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
My question is what's the first dude going to do when she loses this VP gig and loses her job as governor when the shit hits the fan with her corruption investigation in troopergate?
Bad sentence but too lazy to rewrite it. lol
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Do you wonder if she knows the difference between another state and another international state? Must be really confusing for her.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
Stupid is as stupid does. And nobody does stupid like Sarah.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Good Lord, Jesus General's gonna hafta redraw the world maps again to fit Sarah's world.

    OT

I found this link on another blog. It is from a Phoenix newspaper in 1989 !!! They ripped John McCain apart for the Keating scandal. They also said, remember this is l989, that it is tiring listening to him give his POW story as excuses. It is a very interesting article and perfectly describes the John McCain of today. He hasn't changed in almost TWENTY YEARS but now he is a change agent?????

  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
That's quite a scathing article on McCorrupt you found there.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Yes it is and it is l989 and an Arizona newspaper. What I found interesting is the date of the article could be 2008 and still be applicable.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Wow I just read the article and it describes the McCain of 2008, this article should be in every blog, and reprinted in every major newspaper. You need to get this article back out into the mainstream because McCain has not changed.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
That is exactly what I thought when I read it. It IS John McCain from yesteryear to today. No change there that I can find and it shows just what a weasel he was then and now.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
OOPS! Correction on the link. The following link takes you to page 1 instead of page 2.

I made an interesting observation as I peruse news websites yesterday and today. I see PALIN and OBAMA standing out in headlines but I'm hard pressed to find McCain's name as part of the headline. It's almost like Palin is the other person running...

Has the media just made this about Palin and Obama and McCain is just a subplot in the campaign?
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
McCain took the weekend off and left his pitbull carry the torch. He is supposedly preparing for the debate on Tuesday. He is going to need it IF the economy comes up.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Thanks AQ2, I forgot he would be in 'hiding' preparing for the debate. Funny, Obama is campaigning just like normal, guess HE'S not worried. ;-)

Now she's calling herself the vice president

If you knew what she knew, you wouldn't be laughing.

She knows that... contingency plans have been made.

If the mud-slinging campaign ads fail, there's always the "October Surprise" terrorist attack.

And if the "October Surprise" terrorist attack fails, there's always the purge lists.

And if the purge lists fail, there's always the rigged voting machines.

And if the rigged voting machines fail, there's always the Supreme Court.

And if the Supreme Court fails, there's always the Army.

Palin must be convinced that the whole campaign is nothing more than a grade school field trip, and everyone watching is an imbecile.

Ummm, governor? Remember that Alaska jet you sold because it was too expensive? Every leg of your little field trip around the country is costing much more. And, the rallies, and signs, and venues you're appearing in? They also cost money. The $80 million pot of money the taxpayers gave McCain's campaign isn't big enough for you to go everywhere you feel like going. Even if it was, that would be a silly way to run a campaign, and everybody knows that.

Dammit, governor cut the cute crap.

Remember Dan Quayle? Nope, we don't either. He left office a young man, but didn't graduate to any positions of national prominence. He tried to get cute by making an issue of Murphy Brown. A lot of folks talked about it for a little while, but it -- and he -- went away.

GOP official: McCain Michigan pullout a 'dumbass stunt'
"With 30 days before the election, the campaign must decide where it can best utilize its limited resources with the goal of winning nationally and ensuring John McCain is our next President," McCain's Michigan state director Al Ribeiro explained, while urging activists to keep working, adding that McCain "hadn't given up on the state."

"If you are going to end visits to the state by McCain/Palin, do it," Emmet County GOP Chairman Jack Waldvogel replied, copying a list of Michigan Republicans. "Just don't formally announce that you are 'pulling out' of Michigan, and then come back two days later asking the base core of support to 'keep working.' What a slap in the face to all the thousands of people who have been energized by the addition of Sarah Palin to the ticket. I've been involved in County Party politics and organization for 40 years, and this is the biggest dumbass stunt I have ever seen."

"He has given up on our State? What a total and complete crock of crap," Waldvogel added. "Again, I think McCain owes the Republicans and the People of Michigan a HUGE APOLOGY. SOON!...How on earth are we to get people to work for McCain here, when he has already, publicly, in the media, given up on Michigan? We feel abandoned, we are disappointed, and we are heartsick to know that we aren't important enough for him to fight for."
  • vickif · 1 year ago
The question should be "How can the people of Michigan vote for MCCain when he doesn't seem to care about them?
  • CitizenTwenty · 1 year ago
    Come on John...
    Let's be real here...
Maybe if the media was as worried about a certain Illinois Senator buddying up with convicted home grown terr-wrists...
Since he was of course eight years old...
As they were with a couple of (dozen) small mistakes Vice President Palin from Alaska has made recently...
In interviews, a debate and some unregulated moments with the press...
Regarding the constitutional role of the Vice President...
And the current Administration's foriegn and military policies...
And the various actual positions of her (running mate's) campaign...
And the fact that she periodically talks in tongues while answering questions about what magazines or newspaper she reads or her what her opinions are regarding that vague and unimpactful entity within Government called the Supreme Court...
    The Supreme Court...
"Big Woop!" as some folks might say...
At a little league hockey game...

The media might realize what a perky interview President Palin would be on the mornings shows if she somehow found her way into the White House...

Although I live in Omaha, I didn't have the chance to go get tossed out of the Civic Auditorium last night during Sarah Palin's visit. I had a few good lines to shout, but I also had the birthday party of a dear friend to attend.

So instead, I will bring you this cheery news. According to the Omaha World Herald, Palin drew about 5000 people. In February, Obama drew at least 12,000 people to the same auditorium. Obama filled the entire Civic, and still had a couple thousand watching downstairs in the Music Hall.

If Palin can only get half the crowd Obama got 8 months later, one month before the election IN ONE OF THE REDDEST STATES IN THE COUNTRY, what does that tell you?

"We have got to not allow the greed and corruption on Wall Street anymore. And we have not got to allow the partisanship that has really been entrenched in Washington, D.C., no matter who's been in charge. When the Republicans were in charge, I didn't see a lot of progress there, either. When the Democrats, either, though, this last go- around for the last two years."

Sarah Palin said this at the debate the other night. I would not have allowed my sixth grader to hand this in on a school assignment without correcting the grammar.

As a fellow journalism major, I am insulted that I had to work hard for assignments in writing and poli sci classes and public speaking classes to graduate, while she seems to have graduated with a fifth grade education.

I can't imagine any of my professors allowing this type of speaking or writing (assuming her speech is representative of her writing skills) to get a passing grade. She obviously has never used "Elements of Style" by Strunk & White. Maybe that sparkly winking came in handy in the 5 colleges she attended or maybe her Dean at the school was Rich Lowry.
