What's so noble about a country that still practices the horrible caste system?

They don't treat women so well, either.

In fairness to him, how do you stop 10 men armed with rifles from carrying out this sort of thing in a city of 20 million? Unless you have penetrated their cell, it is impossible.

New York City ESU 3 trucks carry body armor and assault rifles. They wouldn't have gotten very far in New York.

India is a democracy, it makes a difference.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Ask a Dalit how that democracy is working out for them...
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
You lived in India for many lifetimes, I gather.
  • Arjun · 1 year ago
A Dalit has been President of India, and is today the Chief Minister of a State (Governor in US terms). Yes , there is discrimination like there is against blacks in the US, but that does not mean democracy is not working. There are flaws we need to work to fix, but a blanket statement like yours is wrong and lessens what India has achieved with democracy.

Oh, have no fear. The Republicans have "learned their lesson." You can bet if anything unpleasant happens during the Obama administration that the Republican's will be on his ass faster than than a dog on a leg, humping the hell out of him. They will scream for heads to roll and accountability. It will be back in fashion to criticize the government. Nay, it will be a Republican's patriotic DUTY! They will try to goad him into action and then they will criticize whatever he does or doesn't do. Dissent is the the new unquestioning approval.
  • MNUSA · 1 year ago
Does that mean they'll stop blaming Clinton for everything?
  • ComradeRutherford · 1 year ago
If that attack had happened in America with a Republican President, that minister would receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom, heaps of praise for doing such a commendable and successful job and a pardon.

If the Republicans do it and the People demand accountability, it's the called the Blame Game.

Accountability is NOT for Republicans. They are above the Law and the Constitution.

“Pardon Afzal [Muhammad Afzal, accused of attacking the Indian parliament in 2001], hang Sadhvi [a woman accused of participating in the only act of Hindu terrorism in a Muslim neighbourhood], Ban the Bajrang Dal [a Hindu extremist organisation], talk to Simi [a Muslim student organisation of which the Indian mujaheddin, responsible for a string of attacks in Indian cities, is said to be a part], restrict the Amarnath pilgrimage [a Hindu pilgrimage that led to upheavals in the Kashmir valley last summer] fund the Haj. Wow! Truly, my India is great! Fwd 2all Hindus.”

After reading the timeline of the attacks, which included eyewitness accounts, I'm glad to see someone being held accountable. The newspaper photographer who took pictures of the attackers at the train station -- he said there were armed police at the station and they didn't fight back against the attackers, despite being implored to do so and having time to regroup and mount a counterassault. Seems pretty damning to me. Sure they had to be concerned about killing innocent bystanders, but then why do the police have guns?

Wow! Someone actually felt accountable and resigned? Sounds like a great concept.

caste system is not that horrible as u think. it was originally developed to classify people according to the work they did. like scholars (brahmin) , warriors (kshatriya) etc. so know or atleast think before u post a comment .
india is a noble country because of its ' unity in diversity' there are no other country in the world that assimilates so many religion, culture and linguistics. it has a rich cutural history
n u find it very easy to blame my country because your knowledge is only superficial.
and i am an indian woman and proud to be so . i have never been subjected to ill treatment in my country . where did you hear that we r ill treated

It's not that horrible unless you're one of the 200 million 'untouchables', 170 million of whom live in India. That's one in 32 people on the planet; it's not a small or superficial problem.

It was honorable to offer the resignation, but I don't think he did anything severely wrong. The Indian military and local police served bravely in a very bad situation & were well coordinated by the local administration; let's stick to blaming the crazed gunmen, not innocent bureaucrats.
