Yes, in 12 step meetings, people like McCain are often referred to as "King Babies". They think they should have whatever they want and throw tantrums until they succeed.

I think Dubya can relate to that as well. Well, if he ever attended a meeting like he was supposed to.

Way, way, way, back when McCain was growing up it was said he would hold his breath and turn blue while throwing a tantrum....not much different from today.

I think viewership of the next debate will be very low. We already know Barack looks and acts presidential and McCain looks and acts like the mean old liar he is.
Now we need to pray that Americans set aside their prejudices and vote for the Best Man.

Did you see Pat Buchanan doing post-debate spin last night on MSNBC? It's like he held his nose and said "McCain won" very dejectedly. He knew what happened but it was like someone was forcing him to spin. What's the deal with these guys? I could be wrong but I don't think Rachel or the left-wing blogs would have a problem admitting McCain won if he really had. I know I wouldn't. I don't understand such zealous, rabid ideological adherence in the face of total defeat. Wouldn't it be better for your own personal integrity and professional credibility to admit defeat rather than make a fool of yourself? If Bush has not totally destroyed the Republican brand, McCain will finish it off.

Buchanan is a joke..........I heard him insisting "McCain won" ,........ total spin but only making him look pathetic and having lost any credibility he ever had.......

Buchanan is beholden to his corporate masters: GE. GE is teetering right now. They were forced to raise money just last week with a big stock offering. Unfortunately for them they couldn't even get the price they wanted. This would be HUGE news if everything else wasn't going on right now folks.
GE is evil. I'm not going to elaborate why I think that in this post but I will not shed a tear when they go under (and it will happen). The good news is that they look like they might sell NBC Universal to raise cash. That is a good thing. It will also be good when the rest is sold off piecemeal and this awful behemoth is finally put to rest.

It is all about the dogma of being a Republican. They do not have open minds, they do not listen to other opinions, they do not acknowledge that Bush has ruined the country, they do not believe the war in Iraq is bad for American it is all about blind faith in their belief that being Republican puts them above everyone else. The end is near for that party and while we as a country have been crippled and individuals freedoms, retirement plans and dreams have been trashed, the end of the Republicans will turn out to be a good thing. We just need our Congress to put the current Administration in jail or resign and let Americans who want a better place for all of us take over.

reagan used religion to neutralize the perception that republicans don't care much for ordinary people. so the old themes started to work for them: 1) government off your back (except for religion) and 2) kick somebody's ass overseas. people still prefer GOP because of (2), but (1) is no longer viable given the looming great depression. to make matters worse, mccain is the anti-reagan, basically a surly old deadbeat elitist. when obama shows how much smarter our foreign policy can be, the GOP is in the wilderness for a generation.

But later, Buchanan reversed himself and said Obama won.
It's more than just channeling Scrooge. McCain's testy, staccato sniping along with his wooden, hobbled walk and frenetic note scribbling sure didn't appear to be the master of the town hall format nor a chunk of multi-tasked, 21st century presidential timber. If his campaign wasn't so mean-spirited I could actually feel sorry for Johnny and his campaign. Along with Johnny and Cindy Lou's fast exit, the normally smug and snide Nicole Wallace, in the post game shows, seemed less her surly self and resigned to eventual defeat.

I watched the debate with a couple of producer friends. Obviously, they're pretty visual due to their occupations and they couldn't help but notice, despite McCain's favored status in such venues, that this townhall showed him to be hunched, waddling and something of a caricature of Burgess Meredith as the Penguin. His snide "that one" remarks and the dropping of the microphone into the other hand as a finish to his "speechifying" showed such bitterness and commonness. Barrack, on the other hand, even while sitting showed elegance, strength, and maturity. This was supposed to be McCain's arena and he couldn't even come out ahead in it. There was also that not-shaking-Barrack's-hand incident at the end of the debate that pretty much shows how much "crossing the aisle" really means coming from that old bird. No amount of shiny fancy suits on that pig is going to make him attractive.

Yep, I noticed him shoving Cindy in front of him before the handshake could actually corrupt his War Mindset. I also noticed (not sure if anyone else did, I haven't read about it yet) that the question referring to bad mortgages by the African American man in the tweed jacket was answered in an absolutely condescending manner----McCain said something like "you may not know what Fannie or Freddie are" or something to that tone-----What the everloving EFF is that supposed to mean?

McCain interacted last night with only two African-American men, and he condescended to both of them. He is a racist. He would deny it, but his behavior indicates that he is.

I sort of got the feeling he was talking down more to the common man (as in "I'm rich, because I have more than $5 million") than talking shite to a black man. Although, there was this black woman in the back row who had this loooooookkkkk on her face that made me think she was going to jump up, pull off her earrings and say "uh unh, Honey, you did not just say that!"

I have a different take on McCain. I think he has given up. I think he is tired. I think he knows he did damage to his image, and he may never recover from it. Keep in mind he is in his seventies. The campaign has been grueling on him. His handlers made him choose Palin, they want him to attack Obama in very negative ways, and he simply does not have the stomach for it. Palin has no such problem with negative attacks. She is younger, stronger and, right now, she wants the White House more than McCain. McCain is simply too old for the job and Palin is simply too divisive. I think this is what the Independent voters are beginning to see.
PeteWa

If you think that McCain does not have the stomach to go nasty and negative, you really don't know very much about McCain at all. Just google as many videos of him as you can, and watch him address the people he disagrees with.
Hell, just think about the way he wouldn't look at Obama in the first debate, wouldn't shake his hand last night, called him "that one" and sneered at him.
His nickname as a child / adolescent was McNasty - and this was coming from his friends.
There is hardly a shred of decency in the man, and you don't have to be a "trollop-c**t" like Cindy McAbused to know that.

Pete, I never said he wasn't a mean old man. I just don't think he has the stomach to attack Obama to his face - as evidenced by last night's debate. He comes across tired, beaten, and old.
PeteWa
I agree that he comes across as tired, beaten and old. And you could be right that he no longer has the "stomach" or stones to attack anyone to their face, but I've seen him do so numerous times, even within this campaign. It seems to me that it has less to do with him being able (or rather, inclined to do so) and more to do with the fact that everyone knows he has a temper-tantrum problem, including him, and that is why he is barely containing his rage. That's how I take it at least.

scottinsf

He's definitely tired Karol. No doubt about that. Not so sure he has completely given up though. He knows any number of scenarios could possibly put him right back in this.
I think it's easier for him and Palin to attack Obama with their most outrageous accusations in front of a rally attended by their most hate-filled supporters (and you know that's who's showing up in force to their rallies), and that it wouldn't work at the debate level. Obama would've wiped the floor with him if McCain had tried bringing up Ayers or Wright. They know better than to say the shit they are to his face. They'll continue to be cowards and spout crap at their rallies.

McCain appeared to be out of breath most of the time and desperate as he tried to deliver his "I love America cuz I'm a POW" talking points. Being so old, it's hard for him to talk and move at the same time. This guy needs to retire. Neither he or Palin are competent or qualified to handle the rigors of being president, especially at this very volatile point in US history.

I wanted to mention one big highlight where Obama completely blew me away.
It was when he came right out and said in front of a national audience that he felt affordable health care was a right in America. He went there. No excuses either. To me that was huge. All of us here already knew his view, but for him to state it so straightforwardly at this very important debate made me proud.

Maybe he's should start taking dog distemper medication to go with the Ambien and Alzheimer supplements. We would want him to bite Obama's ankle or piddle on the floor at the next debate
Shales doesn't "get" it, either, like most of the hacks: Obama wasn't "boring"; he had every intention of being steady and calm last night. And he didn't need drugs or supplements to achieve his intention.
woodroad34

I sort of wanted Obama to get a bit more aggressive. But after the show, I realized that the whole of his presence was a perfect foil to the gnome that was his dishonorable opponent.
Now we need to pray that Americans set aside their prejudices and vote for the Best Man.
