AMERICAblog: It's about McCain. Period.

John McCain and the GOP are finding out it is no fun when people play dirty politics back on them. No after what they do to Obama night and day why should we be nice an ignore an obvious problem. Palin is either the mother or the grandmother. Produce the DNA tests!
  • grandma · 1 year ago
McCain says he knew about Palin's daughter's pregnancy before last Friday's announcement.

And we should believe anything McCain says because???????
  • SteamingPile · 1 year ago
He's either (1) a big fat liar, or (2) even dumber than Bush. Pick one.
  • AdmNaismith · 1 year ago
I used to put off writing papers and studying for tests all the time in College. But then I was never running for President of the US and McCain this is more important that a mid-term in Trig.
  • mf_roe · 1 year ago
Trig wasn't mid term, he was only a month early.

When will McCain ask Palin to step down?
  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
Great. Would there be a need for another non-convention to nominate his latest pick? You know, a prime-time do-over?
  • mf_roe · 1 year ago
This is like the Edwards affair, far to salacious to die before it is exposed

    Judgment:

    The ability to judge, make a decision, or form an opinion objectively, authoritatively, and wisely, esp. in matters affecting action; good sense; discretion;

The demonstration or exercise of such ability or capacity:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

McCain has clearly proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, with the pick of Palin, that his judgment is not to
    be trusted.

Obama brought up the subject of judgment when he first started running for Pres.....McCain showed poor judgment in voting for Bush's war in Iraq.

The GOP wants to talk about experience.....and McCain's record is one of bad judgment at many levels.

Ted Stevens should have been enough to keep McCain from even looking at Alaska for a VP candidate
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
McCain doesn't really keep up with current events.

What a laugh, the ad above from Newsmax asks the question,"Over for Obama?" Hey repugs, you got Palin and it looks like your'e failing.

  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Obama is flatly telling reporters, "A candidates family should be off-limits." As frustrated as this makes me, I think Obama is a classy guy for not jumping all over this. He could always pull a Hillary and say, "Well, I just don't know..." and then infuriated Republicans would say he was feeding the story. Obama has better sense than me. I certainly want him as my President. I'd rather have a President who is intelligent enough to make sound judgments.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
Easy for Obama to say, but he knows it's salacious and the media and the left will be all over this like flies on a dead moose.
  • curlytoes79 · 1 year ago
Yeah, there's no reason for Obama to get his hands dirty. Everyone else is jumping all over this.

Choosing Palin says he wants no input from his VP and that his BFF Lieberman would probably be Sec of Defense with the biggest voice in his cabinet.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Exactly; NO ONE in the corporate media has even asked the basic question: after November 4th, what role is Palin supposed to play as VP? What will the parameters of the office be in his administration? I suspect McCain thinks of her as a hostess: "Sarah, get my friend Joe here a dry martini, will ya?"
  • 1970cs · 1 year ago
"1 or 2 olives Mr. Lieberman?"
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Let Obama ignore it. This is too juicy for the rest of America to just ignore.
  • martha · 1 year ago
So true. Obama shouldn't say a word - let the National Enquier do their job.
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
Had this been a democrat and we would never hear the end of it.

It goes without saying, a good conservative never admits responsibilty.

Carol McCain. Cindy McCain. Bridget McCain. Now Sarah Palin. These are the women McCain has damaged in his quest to be Commander Guy. PIG!
  • martha · 1 year ago
So sad. I actually feel bad for all the women he has abused - especially Bridget - she is so innocent.

    Joe:

I think you guys are going to have to have a Sarah Palin scandal scorecard before long--it's getting tough to keep track of all these things.

Near as I can figure, we got this:

    * This so-called reformer directed Ted Stevens' 527.

    * She's under investigation for Trooper Gate.

    * She was involved in another firing scandal when she was mayor, for which she was almost recalled.

    * She bankrupted that little town she was mayor of.

    * She and her husband once belonged to a political party whose goal is to make Alaska secede from the union.

    * She claimed to be against the Bridge to Nowhere, when tapes of her speaking to the people of that island clearly record her supporting the bridge.

And, of course, that's not including all the personal stuff I'm not going into.

I'm telling you.....this woman has been a Bush-sized disaster on so many levels it's hard to get a handle on it.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
Already the indignant McCain campaign is demanding respect for the privacy of the Palin family.

Not until the GOP displays a little respect for the privacy of me and my family and everyone else's family.
  • threeaces · 1 year ago
After 6 months to make the decision he chose someone under investigation, headed Ted Stevens' 527, has an unmarried pregnant teenaged daughter etc. I'll bet that Tom, Mitt and Joe feel really great now.
  • msskwesq · 1 year ago
I agree completely. This is about McCain and his lack of judgment and his being beholden to Karl Rove and the cabal of extremist religious conservatives that call the shots in the Republican Party. I am sure that even Ronald Reagan would be agog by the way his party has gone off the deep end. It would be sad if it were not so frightening. America is in great peril if McCain wins the White House. God Help Us All!
  • AmyM · 1 year ago
How could they pick her knowing this would ruin her daughter's reputation throughout the world?
  • cmccbald · 1 year ago
    Ok, I'll bite.

Yes, it's about McCain. He shows in the decision to choose Palin, and how he made it, that he is not qualified to be President.

    He should withdraw.

It's also, however, about Palin, the person who might become our President. Her behavior as an expectant mom and now as the mother of a special-needs infant raise questions about her, uh, "family values." To put it bluntly, on family considerations alone, she should have said "no" to McCain.

But what really infuriates me is this official statement: "We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby." Are Republicans such as Palin "pro-life" or not? This is a "choice" statement -- and she should have to answer for it.

A final point. Kevin Drum quotes Jake Tapper: What would the response be if Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, and his wife Michelle had a pregnant unmarried teenage daughter?

Kevin then imagines the following: "Fox News talking heads....hmmm....solemn statement of faux support from John McCain....followed by the usual innuendo-laden videos from the cretins who run his communications shop (and, I would add, questions about the "Baby Daddy")....James Dobson would release a statement and it sure as hell wouldn't be (the one he has apparently released on this occasion)....Steve Sailer would weigh in on black family culture....Charles Murray would be next....The Corner would slowly build to a screeching crescendo....Jeremiah Wright....permissive liberal culture....Rush Limbaugh....Sean Hannity....Michelle Malkin....um....um....um...."

So, yeah, it's all about McCain. Still, ...

The split screen on all the news channels showing the GOP convention disaster along with the hurrican disaster...fabulous!
  • Laur · 1 year ago
The nomination of Sarah Palin definitely raises anew the question of McCain's judgment. I don't want either of them in the top executive elected offices of our nation. For a guy who has supposedly polled better than Obama on the national security issue, he doesn't seem to demonstrate much finesse.
  • Laur · 1 year ago
I meant to say "the selection of Sarah Palin"...etc. etc.
  • QuietLite · 1 year ago
It certainly is about John McCain's judgment. The news about Palin, her family problems and her "strong values" indicates someone from the very far right, frankly, someone I wouldn't be comfortable with running for such a high office. McCain's action to make such a risky and politically , themotivated choice, whether the choice was inspired by him or the right wing extremists that influence his party ,indicates his poor judgment at best
Would a prudent and caring woman with a 5 month old Down's syndrome child and a 17 year old pregnant daughter choose to run for such a demanding job. I doubt it. You want to have "strong values" about not using contraception or not having an abortion then take responsibility for those decisions. Anyway, as much as Palin's values and political profile might engender my disapproval,, it's McCains judgment which is seriously in doubt. There were so many safer and better choices McCain could have made. Definitely poor judgment. In fact, it's scary that a peerson running for president, who has a legion of advisers to draw upon, makes such a questionable and risky choice.
