with all the corporate bailouts you gotta ask, is this how they'll finally break the country? Because, they've been trying really hard for the last 8 years to do just that.

The argument that's being floated to justify any bailout is based on the nature of how interconnected the derivatives (bad debt) are with a lot of institutions, and the domino theory of if one goes down they'll all go down...
And my response to that is, the taxpayers aren't the ones who set up the ponzi scheme, we didn't sell it to you - fuckin' deal with it yourselves. If you go under, so what? That's the way a free market works. That's what you wanted. Deal.

You know, I could really use a bailout too. I just don't think I can maintain this debt load.

Bushism, I.E his version of fascism hard at work fucking the rest of us!
We do all realize that his dad's grandfather was a fascist at heat and favored the manner in which the Nazis controlled the masses!
The bush family has been hard at working fucking the little guy for a long time!
The financial storm about to savage this country is beyond anything seen by living eyes, even with our best and brightest working honestly no one can save us from great hardship. The thieves and traitors in control now are insuring the pain will be even worse for the vast majority. The lazy asshole voters that put these thugs in charge are about to get their bonus prize. Nemesis is a bitch.

I'd actually have to disagree with the way you put that. I don't think any of these bailouts should have ever happened. All this does is show how widespread the republican hypocrisy goes as they consistently label democrats as "socialist" while their own policies are blatantly socialist in nature. I might actually have some small amount of respect for them if they would just stick to their positions rather than take the most self-serving positions EVERY SINGLE TIME! Point blank, no company should be bailed out.

And regulations should be put in place and ENFORCED to prevent this kind of scheme from ever happening in the first place... this meltdown is a direct result of the deregulation of and policies enabled by the last several congresses and presidents...

If you understand capitalism you know that failure is an important part of the system. Some call it market discipline, bad ideas, poorly run companies, stupid managers get whacked. Drive out the dumb and crooked, punish failure. The current thugs have made the case that failure should be subsidized. And anytime you subsidize something you get more of it

not only subsidized, but rewarded.... with massive golden parachutes for the incompetent management.

Nobody shared the profits with me when they were making money hand over fist. They told me to save money for a rainy day, when they had rigged the game to the point that that goal was impossible. Now, when they are in trouble for doing the very thing they forced the rest of us to do, that is live on credit, they want me to bail them out. Funny isn't it, I am in hock up to my eyeballs and I a dumb middle-class nobody must hock my great-great grandchildren's money to bail their rich lazy asses out. Why? Because the rich fatcats are afraid they are going to lose this election and they are cashing in at the middle-class' expense BEFORE BUSH LEAVES OFFICE.
PUT THAT FACT IN AN OBAMA AD AND WATCH THE CHANGE IN THE POLL NUMBERS.

By far the thing that makes me the saddest is the fact that so many Americans seem perfectly happy to condemn their children and grandchildren to heavy hardships in exchange for their own selfish pleasure today.

They will only bail out Lehman if necessary to ensure the top tier of Lehman management get every single nickel of their multi-million dollar Golden Parachutes, while at the same time making absolutely sure that no middle class American benefits in any way from the bailout. Because doing something to benefit the "people" is socialism. And we're Capitalists, DAMMIT!!
Corporate Welfare Mothers in their limousines, yep.
real problem. somebody should do something about it, yep.
Lehman really needs a hard lesson in bankruptcy - no joke.

When you state "...let Detroit figure out how to get money like every other business in America" what you fail to see or understand are the many, many support companies that provide parts, compliance testing and other engineering services.
The Big Three are not asking for a bailout like Wallstreet, but rather access to low cost loans so they can have a leg up to re-energize their businesses. This type of support is not uncommon in Europe and Japan.
Many of the parts builders and testing companies are "small business", and while the Big Three are hurting, these very same companies are really struggling to keep their doors open.
Now, just as I believe there should be strong conditions for any bail out of Wallstreet, so the same should apply to GM, Ford, Chrysler.
Of course, if you want to see even more shrinkage of good paying union and non-union jobs in BLUE states, then by all means, sit back in the comfort of your Paris abode and espouse your cavalier "let 'em sink or swim" attitude. I mean, who needs a middle class anyway?
