having done the deed in mass back in 2004 i heartily recommend it. the rite was surprisingly empowering, even if our marriage is still second class in the eyes of the federal government.

Screw the federal gov't - you're marriage is first class in the eyes of the Creator - congrats to all in CA - let's hope this is the beginning of the end of homophobic religous fruitcakes everwhere!

Does anyone have a link to a live webcast? There are historic marriages in SF and LA that begin in one hour. Thanks

Congratulations to all who do the "deed" today. How could anyone possibly object to a couple of any type who makes a public commitment to each other? Those women who waited 55 years are quite precious, and show (like many others) that commitment is what really counts. I'd almost bet that gays and lesbians will show heteros exactly what commitment is all about in this age of instant marriage and divorce.

Hurray for California! As more states allow it, and it proves once and for all that is won't undermine anyone else's marriage (duh), I hope the majority of the states fall like dominoes.
Congrats to everyone who is finally allowed to marry the one they love today. :)

No, where are the young gays for our rights? Dancining around like idiots. Where are they?

OK, I want to go back to my own "personal dancin' deal." Which is back to writing. You young gays, it's your deal for you own rights. We've fought for our rights and you don't do nothing but idiot twink drama dancing in the club.

As a result of a court decision, we have had legal gay marriage in the province of British Columbia Canada since July of 2003 and in Canada nationally since July 2005. The world has not ended, babies are still being born and children are not being hypnotized to "choose to be gay". Really, here, its not a big deal anymore. We can handle it just fine. But perhaps McCain thinks that Americans are morally weaker than us big strong lumberjack Canadians (Oh, I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay....).

What I find particularly uplifting is that the opposition to gay marriage is lessening. How wonderful that people seem to be finding out what many of us already knew, that love has no boundaries; be they gender, race or age.
Who knows, perhaps we will actually have open gay marriage throughout America within the next 5 years time. My faith in the US is growing by the day...

Equal marriage rights for gay citizens in the US within 5 years? Not if McCain is elected. Most states have state constitutional amendments banning equal rights for gay citizens now, so it will take years and years to un-do those amendments, and most states won't consider un-doing their anti-gay legislation for many years. The only way this could be sped up is for the blue states to secede from the US.

Shirley, I would say that is merely ONE of the many reasons why we need to make sure that McSame IS NOT ELECTED this November. My main comment was addressing a seeming sea change in attitude about the topic of gay marriage, which is something that I think we can all applaud.
Don't know about you, but I am doing everything I can to make sure that Obama is elected and then perhaps we can get our country back on track once again. Let us all hope, pray and work our asses off to that effect!

There are no gays under 40 years of age. They don't care about what we've done so they don't care. How fucked up is that. Nah, I wont bother anymore.
Watch out, AFA is "undetered" after you. Those like us are not going to be around forever, twinks.

GG - But maybe that's a good thing in and of itself. Maybe they don't have to care or be as concerned because of the great strides that "our" generation brought. I think it is so much easier for the younger folks and maybe we should be proud of what we did so that they don't have too? In the states where marriage or domestic partnerships is allowed is the beginning of a flood of basic rights we are about to win. Maybe not in our lifetimes, but shortly thereafter as todays generation, and their general acceptance of things that are different, take hold throughout our nation. Think about what will become "no big deal" to the generation coming after theirs. I really believe it will only get better from here.
Peace,
Ben

There live a live coverage link at CNN.com if anyone wants to watch the marriage ceremony in SF that begins in a few minutes. Just look up at the right corner in the videos, and there is a live link to the wedding.
