Rahm Emanuel of Illinois has a newsflash for the press this morning: Barack Obama is the Democrats' "presumptive nominee."

"He is the frontrunner, which makes him the presumptive nominee given how late we are in the schedule," Emanuel said in an interview. "Because of where we are in the schedule, he's the presumptive nominee."

A bold step for the former advisor to Bill Clinton, who has studiously avoided picking sides between Hillary Clinton and his friend from the Illinois delegation?

    Not at all, Emanuel said.

"Stating the obvious to the news media," he said, "is news these days."

    Bill Clinton Switches to Obama
    Latest Superdelegate Defection for Hillary

In what some Democratic Party insiders are calling a particularly ominous sign for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, former president Bill Clinton today became the latest superdelegate to switch from Sen. Clinton to her rival, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill).

Sources close to the former president said that Mr. Clinton had been mulling such a defection for weeks, as early as the night of the Iowa primary, but that he only decided to make his decision public today.

"The American people want change," Mr. Clinton said at a press conference in New York. "Lord knows I do."

The former president said that "sometimes, at the end of a race, you have to put an old horse down," adding, "I'm not speaking metaphorically."

Mr. Clinton fueled speculation that he was seeking a role in an Obama administration, saying, "I know my way around the Oval Office, and I know how the super-secret double-lock works."

The former president said he would relish a return to the White House, calling his tenure there "good times."

For her part, Sen. Clinton said that the defection of her husband would not deter her from staying in the race, adding, "To my knowledge, he’s the only white voter Sen. Obama has."

The New York senator denied that she was playing the race card, arguing, "Every other member of my family is supporting me, and by the way, they’re white."

Elsewhere, a defiant John McCain said that his wife will not release her tax returns, "and neither will my girlfriend."

It's not over according to Hillary.....no surprise there........according to Hillary this morning:

Clinton: No retreat, baby, no surrender

They dismissed any of the deadlines for throwing in the towel suggested by the media, including May 20, when an expected Obama win in Oregon could give him the majority of delegates with Clinton unable to mathematically surpass him, and June 3, when the final primaries are held in Montana and South Dakota.

In other words, they said, they're in for the long haul, whatever that is.

Now getting him elected to President is going to take a collective effort. I just talked to one of my Chicago friends and they admitted they wouldn't vote for Obama. First they said it was because Hillary is a friend to Israel (he is Jewish) but with a little more discussion he revealed he would have a hard time electing Obama for "other" reasons. The guy is reasonable and I think come November he will pull the lever for Obama.

So let the healing begin and grow so that we can all vote the Repubicans out in November.

    Rahm is scum.
But if he says that it's over, even Shrillary must know in her calcified heart that it is, indeed, over.

    "Damn he's handsome."

That was my first thought. I love that smile. I enjoy listening to him. He sounds so intelligent.

He is going to make a great president!
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
Sadly, in comparison to George Bush, any life form above amoeba sounds intelligent.

Thankfully, Obama will raise the bar again and the American People will come to expect their president to to be intelligent.

scott, thanks...NC is becoming VERY progressive, IMHO. We always have to ask people not to confuse us with SC, BTW. : ) NC focuses lots of money on education...and it's beginning to pay off.

Michelle is indeed a very lucky woman, but to hear Obama talk about the ethics his mother passed on to him, he admires strong women like Michelle and the two girls they are raising to be bodacious human beings.

    Tough, Hillary.

"Rahm is also one of the most powerful Dems in the House."

Would not "influential" be a more appropriate word in a democracy than "powerful?"

Hillary is rivaling Bush in her inability to recongize and own up to...failure. Move on, Hillary.

Geeze, why did my comment about Obama's smile and sounding intelligent lose a point?

How could that possibly offend anyone?

So Time magazine one of bastions of liberal lunacy has proclaimed Barack HUSSEIN Obama the "winner" suprising isn't it? All this while their are 4 primaries left which could give HILLARITY some momentun. This is just a ploy by the leftists to subvert the election process and discourage voters from going to the polls. Osama should revel in this while he can as come NOV. 08 he'll be shedding tears of misery as election results are tallied and he finds that despite all the hoopla of the syncophants on the major networks he has lost the election. I can't wait for the cries of racism to be bellowed by these same "talking heads".

Rasmussen Reports says it's over too. They are going to start focusing exclusively on their daily tracking poll between Obama and McCain.
