AMERICAblog: It's time for some "Ask and Tell" with Sam Nunn

Can you imagine the rapture bunnies Sam Nunn would appoint to the court?

Wasn't Nunn's name floated for VP the last couple of races too?
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride!

In addition to his homophobic past, Nunn was a major cold warrior within the Democratic Party establishment -- and a Southern conservative Dem. Balance he may provide, but do we need that kind of balance?

I will never forgive Nunn for his hardline stance against gays in the military. He singlehandely set back GLBT rights many years in this country, and helped stir up anti-gay frenzy with his homophopic and ignorant remarks. I'll never forget the photo of Nunn posing in come cramped military space (I think it was a submarine) to show how difficult it would be for a straight soldier to work so closely with a scary gay person. There must be a better choice for Obama than Nunn.

John, I just have to say I love this site. Americablog is the first page I go to for coverage of the Presidential elections. Thank you. I would like to applaud your line " this blog and many others will not stand for someone who still harbors long standing, institutionalized discriminatory views against gay men and women". If Nunn wants to be Veep he needs to state without any uncertainty just what his views are in regards to gays and lesbians. Although I really dont think it would make a difference as Obama won't choose him. What about Sebelius? I don't want to hurt anyones feelings but Sebelius seems to me to be a great choice for Obama's Veep.

What was Nunn's position on the invasion of Iraq, being the supposed foreign policy expert and all? In the first Gulf War, he was opposed saying it would lead to thousands of American casualties. I'm glad he was wrong, but he was wrong and defense is his expertise. Thought his career was over after that. If you think Nunn will help in the South you're dreaming. Southern geography didn't work for Edwards in 2004 or Gore in 2000 losing his own state.

President Carter mentioned Nunn as a favorite of his to be considered for VP. I say, "Absolutely not!!" We do not need to continue to put into high offices more homophobes. That man insulted my service to my country with his homophobic myopic vision of "what we might do" to his weak willed straight soldiers. This was pathetic then and it is ridiculous now to have this man one step away from being president. Enough of these dinosaurs and let us get in some new blood in this office. I'm over 60 but, I'm tired of the "old man's mentality" running this country into the ground. He can hold another office or remain in the one he is working for all I care. I am still pissed about how he perpetuated those same myths about gays and everyone lapped it up as truth.

I don't care what Sam Nunn says or does, I will never vote for a ticket with him on it. Period.

He is the ultimate fascist. He IS Mr. Corporate America. With him as vice president, Obama's life expectancy could be measured in weeks. The corporatocracy would love to have Sam Nunn running the country. He makes Cheney look like Al Gore.

Wouldn't putting Nunn on the ticket make Obama's talk of inclusion during the primary campaign moot? I honestly hope it doesn't turn out that way.

If Nunn is on the ticket, I'm voting Green. Period.

Without expressing an opinion either way about Nunn, it's worth remembering that 15 years ago "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was generally considered a very progressive step. Before that it was more like "Ask/Investigate, Discharge". It's time for the next step, but DADT was an important first step.

Sam Nunn, surely you jest.......I would rather vote for Joe Lieberman. Sam Nunn is a Republican posing as a Democrat. The guy is like Inouye, he pretends to be something other than a blatant WARMONGER.
