Maybe you can only own it while you can control the media on which it is disseminated. Once that changes the concept of ownership becomes changed.

. The copyright system has been up-ended by our corporate masters. The creators should always be protected, new creations should always be encouraged and facilitated, consumers should always have ownership of their copies and fair use of them. Corporate profit should never even factor into it, but right now it dominates all other considerations. That's wrong. We have to fix it before it chokes us all off. This deal keeps it out of the Courts, for now, but it will come up again against us wee little bloggers. It's a weapon they won't hesitate to use. .

If you want a perfect example of the abuse of the infinite extension of copyright is destroying our cultural heritage, check out how the use of some 80 YEAR OLD SONGS is preventing the distribution of the wonderful animated film "Sita Sings the Blues"...

. Yeah. It's VERY important to feed our artists and to encourage the record companies, etc, to preserve and propagate our cultural heritage. But new creations must be nurtured also, and audiences should have more and cheaper choices. The corporatocracy has to go. They don't understand the word "fair." .

I say cheers for Attenborough! It's good to see someone like him not waffling and standing by the evolutionary process.
I had a similar argument (of sorts--the xtians can't argue successfully about pie in the sky) with a couple of old guys who came by the house while I was doing some gardening one day. It's not uncommon here for people to come around in person asking you to go to their church. Told them I was an atheist and why. They totally could not understand why science, gardening and the study of nature helped me understand why there is no "god" behind everything.
Religion should be considered by psychiatrists and psychologists in their studies of delusional behavior, not as a cure for it, as some have posited. There are certainly more creative ways to stem feelings of insecurity and worthlessness like educating oneself for the positive possibilities life itself has to offer, not what a person believes he or she will be rewarded with after death.

Love it! Always believed that religion, wherever it comes from, is for stupid, ignorant people. Religion never offers answers for anything, only more questions.

it's really unfair to very young folks when they ask a question about 'religion' and they get some ridiculous answer and they know it, and is too afraid to engage further.

It's even more unfair when you ask a question they cannot answer and you get punished for it. That happened to me when I was nine and I lost all belief in any god because of it.

Same thing happened to me. Asked a question that didn't have an easy answer and was completely ignored by the pastor who invited questions.
Turned my back then and have lived the rest of my life that way. No need for organized religion.

In Africa, a worm burrows through a child's eyeball. In America, Rush Limbaugh burrows through reality.
The worm can't live any other way...

Does anybody know what the "ridiculously silly title" is? It's not referenced in the article.

I think he just means the "Sir"!

That's what I thought, too. I mean knighthood isn't a tradition we have here in the U.S., but I think if you've got somebody dedicating his career to educating people about the truth -- well, if you've got "knight" in your grab bag of awards I say use it. Given the subject of this article, he's obviously jousting with all the right people. :-)

Ask a religious person why God lets the worm burrow through the child's eye, and you'll likely hear "God works in mysterious ways."
That is, of course, a grand cop-out. It's a non-answer that allows religiosos to get away with perpetuating their crap generation after generation.

A friend's mother was a non-observant Christian Scientist. She had anemia and every couple years or so, she would wear down to the point that she would be put into the hospital and given a pint blood. Every time she returned from the hospital she praised god for her recovery and would deny that the pint of blood had anything to do with it.

Even though I'm a believer, I can't for the life of me, understand why these extremist views are so distorted. Don't they ever ask themselves whether sending hate mail, making death threats, etc. is the Christian thing to do...? I know they're brainwashed by the fundamentalist cults they join, but it still baffles me.

Ah, dear old Sir David. My favorite comment involving him from a friend of mine:
I was watching this nature show and it starts out with a closeup of a man's head. He says "Hello, I'm David Attenbrough...", then the camera pans out and we see he is standing with a bunch of giant lizards at his feetm and says, "...and I'm here in the middle of a bunch of Komodo dragons..."
My friend oncserved, "This is how the British built their Empire... because they're STARK RAVING MAD!"

When one is recruited, indoctrinated and brain washed from birth into a religious cult's mythology it's hard not to believe it.
Attenbrough was lucky not to have been subjected to religious mythology at home.

When are we going to give up that quaint notion that evolution is just a theory? And when are we going to give up that other quaint notion that Christians are loving?
Hymn -- They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love
We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord And we pray that all unity may one day be restored And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love They will know we are Christians by our love
We will work with each other, we will work side by side We will work with each other, we will work side by side And we'll guard each one's dignity and save each one's pride And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love They will know we are Christians by our love
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love Yes they'll know we are Christians by our love
We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand And together we'll spread the news that God is in our land And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love They will know we are Christians by our love
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love Yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love

In that all titles are silly, by definition, Attenborough's Knighthood is as silly as any other .....along with "Mr President", "the Honorable" this and that. At least he has earnt his by a lifetime of work in a field of education and study, so don't be too hard on the old duffer... (sorry, is THAT a title?)!

And now you tell me this which means that I love him so much I'm afraid there is nothing for me to do but begin stalking him...
