AMERICAblog: James Dobson, who himself could use a lesson in Jesus, lectures Obama about God

now this guy is a jackass.

Neither Obama nor Dobson are experts at this stuff. As a layman, Dobson has no standing to talk about the Bible.

Given the Pew Research data that came out yesterday, more Americans think that religions other than their own are acceptible ways to enlightment/god/salvation/nirvana/Cherry Slushies, it seems that the Religious Right is losing it's grip on its own people. This is what happens when you mix politics and religion. It's very tempting to do so in order to gain membership/votes, but both are eventually dragged down together.

I was raised in a Southern Baptist Church by fundamentalist parents. My dad has stated that he doesn't like the Dem's positions on the classics (Abortion, Gay Rights) but he CANNOT in good conscience vote for McCain and will be sitting out this election. Here's to 10 million more just like him.

Y'know, I think religious Americans are sick of this bullshit from these holier-than-thou hucksters like Dobson. This is going to backfire on this loser, and it's gonna blowback on McCain, just you wait.

I think it already has. The silence toward McFlipper is deafing. He is uncomfortable talking about religion. Just look at him going after Hagee and Parsley.

    The Fundies are nervous.

With the Democratic presidential nomination in his grasp, Sen. Barack Obama is making a full-throttle push for centrist evangelicals and Catholics.

It's a move that's caught some conservative evangelicals off guard. They say they are surprised and dismayed to see a liberal-minded politician attempting to conscript their troops. At the same time, they say that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has done little to court their affections.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/21/religi...

They know their hard core base won't vote for Obama, but they've been able to set the agenda over more moderate and progressive evangelical groups for years, and they're loathe to see those groups gain more influence.

Amen! James Dobson is a sick, hateful man who tries to hide his bigotry and intolerance behind the facde of Christianity. It's great that he has no candidate in this race and finally, after eight years of Bush, will have no clout inside the White House.

There they go again. These are the same people that can't help the working poor. They are to busy trying to keep the power. The sad thing is that there are a lot of people that will listen to his garbage.

Even more, although it's unspoken, Dobson HATES McCain's private life (and who can blame him, really?)

If everyone believed in Dobson's 'traditional understanding' we wouldn't have so many different Protestant denominations. It's appalling that Dobby presumes he can speak for all Christians.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
Dobson is a sanctimonious, pompous prick.
His happiest days were when bushco would put him on a 'conference call' and then he could go on the radio and brag about it.
It must be humiliating for him to realize he was being played all along.

Dobson tells fathers to "shower with their son to show them who the man is" He's like the perps on Law and Order SVU

Luke 12:45-48: "The lord [owner] of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more."

Ephesians 6:5-9: "Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him."

Yet Dobson has the nerve to suggest that slavery is not condoned by the bible when in fact it is openly defended in the gospels and epistles of the new testament.

You can't drag the bible through the gutter. It's already in the sewer.

a fruit cake interpretation ........of the constitution ???

when j. dobson has obama credentials he can then make that idiot statement.

In my personal opinion religion is the root of .evil......"..more blood has been spilled in the name of religion" to quote a wise man.............My Dad.
  • Houndentenor · 1 year ago
The Obamas are members of the United Church of Christ. Their policies and practices are consistent with their own church. Dobson speaks for a fringe element of Christianity. I suspect most Americans either in belief or in practice *cough* disagree with Dobson and his views on religion and politics.
