AMERICAblog: Jay Leno apologizes for nasty gay joke

  • smallhandff · 1 year ago
No matter that he apologized, Leno is still a shite.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
LOL I thought you were saying he was a shitte, and I was like, huh? :)
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Ummmm! Ummm! Going to have to fine you $10,000,000,000 and shut down your site.

Unless he apologized, on air, it doesn't mean sheet!
Of course we can't complain, if he still has a job.
Bush still does. And who still does?
    Both!
    Count the days.

Jay Leno was NEVER funny IMHO,

but this is: Hillary Rodham was fired!

Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the [Watergate] committee.
    ....
“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

The best part of this whole mess was the website that arose because of it. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out: http://www.mygayestlook.com/

Hell of a cool site, if only it didn't lock up mine and I'm sure many others computers. The msg is important. Why the hell should the site totally hang computers?

    God, get a clue people.

I usually find the men who like to bash fags a lot are usually hot as hell in bed with other men, once you get them drunk enough to go with their feelings. And always bottoms....which is just fine with me. Truly comfortable hetero men who are truly straight usually don't have to bash fags to find their sexual self esteem. It's the closet cases that need to make jokes about us.

Posting of unverified comments? Warning! Danger, Will Robinson! (thrashing arms wildly in the air)
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
I am trying to like the new comment software..but I don't. I naturally thought hitting "reply" in a comment would append it to the comment, thread it, but it just ends up on top.
The posts are the wrong way round, liked it much better older->newer as you traverse.
Miss having the pop-up window, having to go to a new page and back is a pain in the ass.
Don't like having twice seen some sort of error two people have had commenting, where their email address was broadcast in the comment field. Scary.
    Couldn't care less about Avatars.
Harder to read, more junk in the way.

I know WHY americablog did this (control, which was needed) but this Disqus I think is a bad solution.

Apparently I'm not the only one, we've lost a lot of people I really enjoyed. I enjoy Older & Wiser and he's still here, but all are posting quite a bit less.

I'd call this a failed experiment and try to get something closer to what we had, that could be administrated as needed.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
    Hey, Tom...love ya, but I'm a woman. : )

I was listening to Barney Franks this am on NPR, and the man is brilliant, brilliant! He makes up for the Leno gaffe by his intelligence, wit and compassion for the millions of homeowners screwed by the mortgage industry. He knows what they did, and isn't prepared to bail them out, but wants them to accept responsibility for peddling defective loans to millions and take the losses themselves, not leave it up to taxpayers to do so.

Meanwhile, in Charlotte, NC, a local TV station showed a neighborhood built for "first time buyers" (read suckers), smallish, vinyl covered products built 5 years ago and peddled to people with bad credit which has resulted in 50% of the neighborhood foreclosed on, leaving a blighted area which looks like an instant ghetto, something I've been railing about for years now. These houses are on concrete slabs, poor quality, put up with cheap labor and probably aren't built as well as modern double wide mobile homes. A total travesty of what a decently built home should be. These houses sold for around $100-125K and are selling at auction for half that.

too bad phillipe was so uncomfortable. a braver actor would have responded that he was glad to get such an important role, both for him as an actor, and for the community which rarely get portrayed with full humanity in the media
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Well, yeah, this format isn't conducive to happy chatter. It's a loss but . . . so it goes.
It's meaningless for Leno to apologize if he doesn't do it on the air, and, well, I'm not so sure the apology means much anyhow. Did he apologize or did he do damage control? I'm pretty sure he was doing damage control. That's not enough. John, you are too hard on your faithful bloggers, too forgiving of late night TV celebs.
  • Rab · 1 year ago
Leno is just a repug anyways, c'mon Jay, give us your biggest chin look, you freak.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Please don't take my comments below as blowing off the Leno remarks, either.

Just consider the source. When you hear "entertainers" spew their bigotry, whether Leno, O'Leilly or any of the others who are inclined to do so, just ask: What the hell have they done for me lately? Answer is nothing. They're in it for themselves, not you, whereas at least with elected officials, you can get rid of them--you, not some corporate network assholes who look to the bottom line. The only way you can get rid of public bigots is not to buy what they're selling.

I've said it many times--Americans are going to entertain and pleasure themselves to death, all the while corporations have, and will continue, to take over this country. Is that what we really want? It's very easy to put your money where your mouth is--just don't buy what they're selling.

    now that's progress.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Wow, that looks like my dog in that kijiji ad to the side. : ) He's 7 lbs of pure terror to some...not a pure bred, either. Bulkier in the body. Love my doggies...
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
Older & Wiser, apologies (not that you are a woman, but that I either forgot or assumed).

Am glad you are still here on the comments, always enjoy your posts!
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Tom, thanks for that...enjoy yours as well. : )

Meanwhile, the stock market is all agog over news from Paulson that the financials might be incorporated into the Fed. The foxes in the henhouse. If they start failing because of greed, criminal actions or just plain incompetence, the Fed will just print them up more money, and borrow more from China in the form of Treasury bonds. Does anyone in DC know what they're doing?

Just saw a story that Clinton compared herself to Rocky Balboa, "just like him, I don't quite..." blah, blah, blah..

She apparently doesn't know Rocky "lost" in a split decision in the movie.
I guess she was going on "the best information at hand" again, which doesn't seem to work out too well for her.

Also, the hokum of comparing oneself to a fictional character (said the guy who took his name from "Grapes of Wrath" heh...I DO have irony if nothing else) as an election plotpoint...kinda makes me sick. It's too "slick". It's too "Disney"...it is too LAME.

"I'm like Rocky" to a Philly audience...if you wrote that in ANOTHER movie, it would be too hokey.
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
In fact, in a Rocky movie, you know the politician that compared themselves to Rocky Balboa would turn out to be some corrupt politician that Rocky would somehow put in their place.

Another thing about these new comments. I hate that you cannot see from the main page if there have been any new posts. Before you could always see the number of comments (even if it was sometimes wrong, or 0 when there were posts), but here...

I miss the old one. But will stop bitching about the new. I've said it already, and at some point will either grin and bear it, or just fade out of here and gradually wean off of Americablog, as much as I have liked it the last number of years.
  • ronk212 · 1 year ago
TomJoad is right about the 'new' comment. Must have been created for a computer engineer, not we loyal readrers. I think I'll wean off this blog too. I'll miss it, but come on, when you open replies you should see the replies of the topic.
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
I think they know full well what they are doing. They are doing exactly what robber barons, hostile takeovers did in the past. They are gutting the assets of this country, they are taking huge golden parachutes for themselves, they are reaping the benefits of Bush removing as much regulation, detoothing that which remains, and getting rid of "rule by law", replacing it with "Rule by ruling parties whim".

They know what they are doing, because they do the opposite of what they claim. If they were on the up and up they wouldn't present it as being the opposite.

If you read past statements by Cheney, McCain, Bush, et. all, you see that they DID know what they were getting us into as they warned us back in the 90's and late 80's that many things they now propose "would lead to failure", but nothing has changed, except it benefits them.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
Bostonion Queer, in his comment below, nailed Leno's fondness for making gay jokes.

    excellent job by GLAAD, too.

If I remember correctly, when the new software first appeared, replies to comments would appear directly under the post they referred to. The page was actually quite easy to navigate.

But one or two people bitched nonstop about how they hated it, so John changed it to this freaky format.

The principal whiners then disappeared and haven't been seen or heard from since, and the rest of us are stuck with this mess.

    Talk about the squeaky wheel.

I don't know that Jay said it, but most people his age, and slightly younger, say it is their age. Yes, in their day, it was different and NOW they have to realize the new age. I say BULLSH*T. I am 55 years old. When I was 20, I swear to you, in rural Oklahoma, it was much more gay friendly than it is anywhere (except SF maybe) now.

I tell you, if someone ... or something ... didn't stop that trend (in the mid-70s), gays would have marriage ... in all states ... by now.

    History ...... research it.

Wow, this is what passes for discourse here these days.

    Sad, really.

A late night/overnight thread here used to generate a 100 comments, easy. With a variety of opinions, clever snark, and well developed arguments.

Those were the days my friend.

Hell of an E-tavern it was.

It's a sad, sad situation, and it's getting more and more absurd.

3/4 of a page of ads will solve it however.
