AMERICAblog: Jeb Bush isn't running for Senate in Florida

Hint to prospective Senate wives: don't be a shopaholic and lie to Customs officials.

You must be a Floridian, because I doubt Co-loom-ba's indiscretion is remembered much outside the state any more. For those who have forgotten: Just before he was sworn in for his first term as governor, Jeb's wife tried to do a Leona Helmsley and slip some French designer duds through Customs without declaring them. When caught, she claimed she did it because she was afraid to tell Jeb how much she'd spent in Paris--as if her trust-fund baby couldn't afford the the extra thousand.

Well, yes, but she's got that ranch in Monterey.

Hint to prospective Senators: do a better job parenting so your daughter doesn't grow up to be a skank drug addict. Who forges prescriptions. And gets caught.

Or your son isn't busted for public intoxication.

Hint to prospective Senators: stay home and bond with your son, your namesake, so he doesn't hate you and act out by getting caught getting blown in a mall parking lot. Or getting drunk off his ass on a city street and resisting arrest from a duly-appointed law enforcement official.

Oops, I was reading from the bottom up and didn't see that you'd already covered the same ground, Karen.

That's OK--there's a lot of grist for the Bush Family mill. We haven't really begun . . .

Jeb has been a governor, just like W. He's paid his dues. He's ready for the main event. Which is all the more reason Jeb needs to ticket w Palan in 2012. Can you imagine cornering the stoner, tweaker & sex-drugs n rockn roll demographic.?

I can see Levi, Noelle, and Willow passing around a bong in a convention hotel suite in 2012. Meanwhile, George P and Bristol are having a quickie in an adjacent bathroom, while little 5 year-old Trig and little Trip bawl for their mommies (whoever they are, no one's sure) because baby sitter Piper got into the stash on her own, and is conked out behind the sofa.

Of course he doesn't want to be a senator. He enjoyed being governor because with a state legislature that was majority GOP, he pretty much got his way on everything. Always getting their own way is what Bushes expect--the whole le droit du seigneur thing.
The Senate is a whole other ball game. When you have the Bush messiah complex and believe you rule by divine right, what fun is it to be one of 100 senators, in the minority party, and with no seniority? No Bush has ever shown that he has the temperament of a Ted Kennedy or Robert Byrd, the sort of Senate junkie who loves dealmaking even when their party is in the minority.

Jebba seems to be the wiser one. He can thank his dumb and loser brother, Dubya, for tainting the Bush name, and messing up his chances of ever being President. Unfortunately, I have no faith that Republicans are intelligent enough to remember what failures the Bushes have been, and they might be dumb enough to vote for Jebba later on.

Jeb is just another Bush Rethug with "family values" problems, after all.
Could divorce be imminent? Or is he too busy trying to put out family fires?

HIs kids could not stand a real media scrutiny: Married George P is seen at all the gay bars in FLaud and the daughter is constantly being arrested on drug charges. Jeb's kids make Skank Jenna look like Little Orphan Annie. But my god what fun a Palin-Jebby ticket would be with family values!!!!

George P. not so much since KiKi Martinez moved back to PR. And daughter isn't being busted anymore, she's working a real job here in Orlando, trying to rebuild her life, poor thing.

Divorce is not an option. Jeb's a Catholic.

Yeah, but when he converted, he apparently missed all the classes about the Church and social justice. He's like all the Bushes; his gods are money and power.

According to the medievalizers, social justice is the respect poor people owe to their bettters, the wealthy.

My guess is that Jeb wants a times out to raise some money for himself!

I would have preferred to see Jeb run right away. Now he's just going to bide his time until the general public forget just how bad W was (3...2...1).
We haven't heard the last from him.

This means he's running for president in 2012. 1) He doesn't want to be two years into a six-year term when he runs, and 2) he wants to be able to say he's not a Washington insider. The 2008 election was dominated by senators. He wants to run on his gubernatorial credentials.
Indigo
Possibly. Certainly, that's the buzz. Fact is, there's a number of very good reasons he needs to keep a low profile. On the one hand, there's some messy but "private" family issues and on the other, there's a whole heck of a lot more cash flow options from where he sits now as a real estate broker and on the boards of a whole bunch of lucrative reich wing speculators.
Oh! Did I say something not ready for prime time?

Jeb's the smart one. He already knows we Florida voters will hand him his sobrero and wonder outloud why he's sitll here.

"...now is not the time to return to elected office?" Perhaps in 2012, or 2016?
anastasjoy

No, a presidency like Dubya's won't be wiped away by 2012 or 2016 or probably 2020 either. Even if the Republicans managed to perform some massive turnaround in their fate and convince average people once again that they give a shit, the name Bush has been sullied for a couple of decades. In fact, given that Jeb is somewhat sharp, that may have been behind this decision: entered the Senate at 58 and waiting for a couple of decades until his brother's damage has been forgotten — well, he may have done the math and realized he'll be considerably older than John mccain is now by the time that happens. So i suspect he didn't want to begin the process of eating dirt in a senate likely to be heavily democratic for a while.

No, No, No!!! Here's the plan: W was put in as president to make Bush Sr. look good in comparison (at this point he looks like Pericles by that standard). Thus the next Bush must under perform W. Neil Bush in 2012!!!

Remember "It's the economy, stupid!"? A Jeb Bush candidacy just screams out a slogan: Two Bush presidencies! Two Bush recessions! Let's make it three for three!"

Jeb is the poorest of the Bush brothers. He is raking in tons of money right now and probably has a lot of debt with his rotten kids and shopaholic wife.He wants to get set for life first.

Not surprising at all. Bushes must be NO. 1! As a senator, he is only 1 of 100. Notice that Dubya was governor (No. 1 in Texas) and then prez. Same with Jeb. Pappy was Vice Prez, but look how that turned out. Nancy Reagan pretty much emasculated him. I suspect Shrub and Jeb noticed.
