I too am glad he is on our side and appreciate the work he is doing for us. But the truth is if you look at the final percentages he got us no closer to "striking distance of a win" than the folks in California did with Prop 8.

First of all, the Catholic and Mormon organizations have not gotten to where they are, to be what they are, by lacking skill in generating fear and not being able for their own ends to capitalize on distrust (to put it mildly) of folks who are different from them.

Couple that with a "progressive of all progressives" black President (who's own parents could have been victims to similar fear & distrust) and his administration walking around their bully pulpit blow, blow, blowing the dog whistle to say "do not allow this". Our community had one hell of a battle on its hands to eek out any equality for our marriages and families.

Obviously we have not yet figured out how to be persuasive enough up against those claiming a mandate from God.

To put that at the feet of Jesse, or the California group who ran Prop 8's campaign, is insensitive and not helpful.

We have a mighty and righteous battle at hand. Victory for equality will come by winning over one heart at a time. Each of us has a big responsibility and role to play in getting that done.

What we lack in Washington is a fierce advocate, somebody on the inside to embody leadership, not just on gay rights, but on the whole realm of social justice.

Any election that brings awareness (and a bit of the energy of anger to the progressive side) is good. Joe--love the right/left profile pic of you and Sweet Pete.

When the opposition has to rely on lies and distortions in order to win, you know their days are numbered.

I had an idea perhaps you could pass on to Jesse to force Maine to release the NOM donor names. Threaten a class action lawsuit representing every No on 1 donor who's name are publicly released. OUR donors face equal or a higher level of threat for our political stance as Yes on 1 donors.
    Thanks
