AMERICAblog: Joe the Plumber, dumb and dumber

  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Joe the Moron actually makes about $40,000

And that business he claims he's trying to buy from his boss (even though he and his boss have never had a serious discussion about it)?

Turns out it only makes about $100,000, according to the owner, not $260,000 to $280,000 as Joe the Moron claims.

(I can't believe they'd stake their campaign's reputation on something they read on Drudge.)

Where did you get the info on the business' real cost etc? Link?

    Olberman threw those figures out.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, I heard it on Olbermann.
  • Monitor_One · 1 year ago
I heard it on Olberman also. I think he said the guy made 41,000. He's another lying Republican voting against his own self-interest.

When I heard these numbers I couldn't help but think well, Mr. Plumber is certainly in the right party. Like most short-sighted Republicans, he acts on assumptions and speaks before thinking. We've witnessed this through the poorly planned Iraq invasion. And the apple doesn't fall far from the tree regarding economics either, after all, wasn't this exactly what the financial institutions were encouraged to do with our money? Buy things they thought were good investments but turned out to be worth much less? Joe, please, stay home election night and find another lever to pull... I've had it with self centered, shortsighted idiots.

McCain is fighting for the guy who lies and doesn't pay his taxes. Am I supposed to be surprised?

Toward the end of the same article, we find the following passage:

The McCain campaign weighed in on Wurzelbacher’s behalf, using the opportunity to take digs at two frequent targets.
“It's an outrage that the Obama campaign and the media are attacking Joe the Plumber for asking a legitimate question of a presidential candidate. This is why voters still have so many questions about Barack Obama. Instead of answering tough questions, his campaign attacks average Americans for daring to look at the reality behind his words, said Tucker Bounds, spokesman the McCain-Palin campaign. “John McCain will continue to fight on behalf of all hardworking Americans like Joe for policies geared toward increasing prosperity and reducing the burden on taxpayers -- not 'spreading the wealth around' for Senator Government to distribute as he sees fit.”

I am astounded by their stupidity. Do they really believe that anyone will swallow this?

Joe the Plumber and Todd Palin should hang out - a match made in heaven. Coverage of both at The Lemon Report. lemonreport.blogspot.com

This narrative is ridiculous, but it's looking like McCain is going to dig in on this, and we need an appropriate response. Conservatives have been salivating to label Obama as a "socialist." I wonder why nobody points out that McCain's health care plan is socialism - FOR THE WEALTHY. He's taxing workers for health benefits and redistributing that wealth to business owners in the form of a tax cut.

If the McCain Campaign were smart (and that's a big if) they would have come out first thing in the morning and said "this Joe guy is a plant that we used to make a point . . ."

It's not uncommon for guys like "Joe" to do actual plumbing under supervision. Happens everywhere, just like with electricians, at least here in NC. As long as their supervisor has the license, they work under him and he signs off on the work. If you've never worked construction, you'd be amazed at how few people on those jobs actually are licensed to do anything.

Besides, how many of us don't have messy personal lives?

Frankly, I wouldn't be so hard on the guy, he's a single dad, trying to do his best, and yes, I felt some sympathy for him--it's tough as nails out here and he's just another working stiff trying to make a living (and isn't that who Obama is trying to reach?) He may be a McCainiac, and have some weird political opinions, but you can bet he'll probably take that Social Security when he's eligible for it. Obviously, he got this idea of being an entrepeneur somewhere...he wouldn't be the first person to want to feather his own nest and "get rich."

By the way, has anyone yet told him that banks aren't offering small business loans these days anyway?

One big grace about guys like Joe is that they are often too apathetic to vote. Canada just had an election and forty percent didn't bother to vote. It's like they're don't care who's at the helm during a storm.

According to Olbermann, Joe made 41,000 in 06. I wonder who died and left him enough money to buy his boss's business that isn't for sale. And, since he is not licensed, he wouldn't be able to do plumbing anyway unless he hired someone with a license.
The guys a lying plant for the Repugs and a stupid one to boot.

    Sort of off topic....

The incompetence that the McCain campaign has exhibited is breathtaking. While we might disagree with their politics, there are some really smart people who are supposed to be in charge of all of this. McCain is damaged goods, but you'd think that they would be doing their very best to cover for him, rather than leaving him out to twist in the wind by doing things like planting Mr. Wurzbacher.

What is going on? Did they really decide to throw this election months ago? What for? Something does not pass the smell test here.

What gives with the ads showing up under this story? ' 'Paid for by the NRA Political Victory Fund '? The 1 I'm looking at now says " Watch the Ad Obama Tried To Censor '
  • AngelaChanning · 1 year ago
And here I thought the shoe to drop on Joe the Plumber was going to be gay porn star. LOL. Oh well.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
republicans have been running this scam as long as i can remember. thomas frank wrote a whole book about it ( http://www.amazon.com/Whats-Matter-Kansas-Conse... ). all they had to do was make plumbers think that dems were going to ruin them financially so they would elect repubs to do it instead. well, they finally got careless with the lie (who wouldn't after so much good mileage) and overreached. literally overnight we were presented with an iconic example of how repubs have been scamming the middle class. tilt. game over.
  • benb · 1 year ago
Damn if McCain doesn't make plumbers out to be so dumb they need him to explain Obama's tax plan.

It's really not that difficult....either you believe Obama taxes incomes over $250K or you don't. You certainly don't need a Beltway wise-ass like McCain to 'help' you. Nobody is fooled by salesman trying to make himself look good by badmouthing his competition.
  • SCLiberal · 1 year ago
Joe the Plumber will be the mythical rallying figure to McCain that the "Welfare Queen" was for Reagan. Both total myths but repeated often enough morph into truth for many.
  • fl79tr · 1 year ago
It's just my opinion, but I think JTP will be the mill stone that drags Mc_____ into the abyss. My thinking, and my experience is that real working class people, when they smell a rat, they don't pussy foot around about it, they call it like they see it and this joke of f*ck*ng plumber will go over like a led balloon with the final remaining genuine "undecideds" ie the folks that aren't committed racists or not so secretly in the bag for conservatives. Actually I'd wager that he'll probably loose some non-affiliated racists on this one if the story can find a way to get out these people who almost go out of their way to stay uninformed. But the only way that'll only happen is if we tell it to them...
