AMERICAblog: Joe's and Rob's post-debate analysis

  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
"I'll bet you did not even know what Frannie and Freddie Mac were before now...." McCain said to a young black questioner tonight and calling Obama "that one" have really given us all something to think about.
  • twostepcub · 1 year ago
Wow. Chris Matthews just kind of had a spat with the low-level McCain surrogate sent to him. Me-ow.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
hey, see my comment above! That was surreal. That little shit was a typical Republican, huh? I was thinking, "what a typical smartaleck Republican!" Matthews disappointed me in that he "made friends" with him at the end of the interview. Matthews shouldn't have been the one apologizing.
  • twostepcub · 1 year ago
I agree. I guess it was SO uncomfortable Matthews ended up feeling almost sorry for the guy.
  • Oldnovice · 1 year ago
Have you noticed that all of Obama's senior advisors are really laid-back, smiling, pleasant, while McCain's all look like they're on speed? Can't decide whether Obama picked them because they were calm or whether they're calm because HE'S calm.
  • benb · 1 year ago
Holy crap! www.cnn.com has Obama winning the debate at 80% vs McCain at 16%. Even if it's phony it's so lopsided that pro Obama hackers are all over McCain's.
  • LawMichigander · 1 year ago
Wow I am very surprised at how badly McCain did tonight and my boyfriend thinks the same thing. I have to say that with my absentee ballot already mailed in with all the Democrat boxes checked for the first time in my life that it's too late now for McCain for me anyway. I would have voted for Obama even if his name was Barrack Hussein Saladin Muhammad Musharraf Obama II. So I am still left wondering why is McCain totally different than in 2000.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
    one word: dementia
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
'even if' ;) the funny thing is that would stop many people..
  • twostepcub · 1 year ago
I actually think McCain isn't too much different....just that in 2000 the Clinton democrats were in power. The more I delve into his biography the more oppurtunistic he proves to be.
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
I noticed that Obama seems to be up on the daily happenings in the news like the AIG execs who spent $400,000 of my money on a vacation when many taxpayers can't afford to take one. He demanded that they pay the money back. he is not going to be a popular fella with the CEOs...but he is my hero. i heart Barack
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I liked the interview and analysis of Joe and Rob. Did Joe use the word "grousing" when he said "For everyone who was grousing about the Democratic primary?"

Okay, JOE WINS AT LEAST 10 POINTS for using that word. I'm going to use that word tomorrow! I can't wait.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Did anyone just see Chris Matthews interview a spokesperson for McCain? My God, that guy was a total snarky ass to him! If I had been Matthews, I would have just ended the interview. What a total jerk. I usually am pretty harsh on Matthews because I find him opportunistic, and I will say Matthews shouldn't have tried to "make friends" at the end of the interview because Matthews was asking relevent questions. That little jerk was an idiot! In fact, the crowd behind Matthews started jeering him he was such a fool.
  • twostepcub · 1 year ago
I think matthews finally felt a little sorry for the guy. (I sure didn't, but I was way uncomfortable).

and i SWEAR i wrote my below note without reading this. so two oppurtunistics in one post!
  • spikeSF · 1 year ago
    "That one"
For the rest of the 'town hall meeting' that statement kept coming back to me. I kept trying to rationalize how McCain could have meant it as a colloquialism or something; it was just offensive and I wish Obama had taken exception and called him out on that specific moment.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I was okay with him not calling him out because it was just SHOCKING! I can understand why Obama wouldn't draw attention to it because it drew attention to itself. He handled it fine. It pointed out what a small, angry little old Rumpelstiltskin John McCain is.
  • spikeSF · 1 year ago
I see your point and don't think Obama lost anything for not directly addressing it. At the same time, I think democrats take that road too often. This was one of those times that it was just so blatantly, intentionally offensive, that a direct confrontation was appropriate. On the other hand, it could be that Obama will remain above that kind of attack and The People will call McCain to account for it.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    I'm with Rob.

We're in a good position to win, but it ain't over 'til it's over.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Oh yeah, McCain said he wanted ex- eBay CEO Meg Whitman as his Treasury Chief. That's nice. Doesn't he realize eBay fired 10% of its workforce yesterday?

  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
just what the markets need! more ceos in control!.. let's have a ceo for president.. let's let the ceos run the country! why didn't obama think of that? lol..
  • twostepcub · 1 year ago
Well, he had to go with Whitman, because the elephant in the room he couldn't say (and I'm kind of surprised Obama didn't bring up, and the only omission he had), and that's Phil Gramm. THAT's who McCain wants, but he's forbidden on mentionning it cause of Gramm's "nation of whiners" crack.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Good night for the Democrats; not so good for the Republicans; however, the Republicans barely claim McCain as one of their own anyway.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
No matter WHO WINS, I still say if you voted for George "Dubya" Bush TWICE then YOU stand at the BACK of the soup line!
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
    You got that right :)
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Matthews is having a good time calling McCain a loser tonight.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I love the comment - a 20th century candidate running against a 21st century candidate.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
    from Ben Smith:

Cindy McCain, startlingly, tells a Tennessee newspaper that Obama has "waged the dirtiest campaign in American history."

    Good grief.....she really is 'blonde'
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
grandma, fighting back is dirty to these people. The wanted Obama to roll over and play dead like Kerry in 04
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Yes...and I liked what Obama has said.......they throw the first punch but we'll be glad to throw the last one.
  • ScottPakin · 1 year ago
    Karol, Cowboy!

    Greetings and felicitations!

Has anyone seen Mr. Busboy tonight? I understand he is having a particularly bad night and I'm looking to console him. Mr. Busboy's ignorance is matched only by his arrogance. Ergo, we must overcome the fears that beset us every day of our lives. We must overcome the fear that Mr. Busboy will push all of us to the brink of insanity. And to overcome these fears, we must present another paradigm in opposition to Mr. Busboy's illiterate off-the-cuff comments. Mr. Busboy finds reality too difficult to swallow. Or maybe it just gets lost between the sports and entertainment pages.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Haven't seen him out here in cyberspace tonight. Must be licking his wounds somewhere.
  • ScottPakin · 1 year ago
Hmmm. Mr. Busboy must sense his own irremediable inferiority. I will go see if he's sulking over at RedState. I worry about him because Mr. Busboy claims that we can change the truth if we don't like it the way it is. Predictably, he cites no hard data for that claim.

    Thank you, CowboyNEOK.

    Scott!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • ScottPakin · 1 year ago
    Always a pleasure, Karol.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
This was written on National Review Online.

    Maybe it was Busboy?

Well I have gone outside and pulled up my Mcain/Palin sign. This election is over. I will vote for Mcain but I know that come Nov. 5 Obama will be our president-elect.

I feel sorry for Sarah Palin. A once promising career will be permanently connected to the landside loss of John McCain.

I weep for my children and their families.
  • ScottPakin · 1 year ago
Good catch Bush_Bites. It does sound like Mr. Busboy. Except I think Mr. Busboy would never weep for his children and their families. Still, Mr. Busboy says he's going to contaminate clear thinking with his litigious manuscripts one day. Is he out of his incompetent mind? In any case, Mr. Busboy's perorations are based on a technique I'm sure you've heard of. It's called "lying".

Good debate review, guys. One McCain remark that I found totally laughable was, "We've need a steady hand on the tiller." It was rather a ridiculous thing for McCain to say after his series of gimmicky stunts and erratic behavior over the past few weeks. It seems that his campaign is in disarray, lashing out in every direction, throwing punches, seeing what sticks. As McCain tottered around the stage like a shaky old man, repeating the words "my friends" about 75 times, he hardly projects the steady hand. If he weren't so nasty, it would be kind of pathetic.
I counted 3 Ronald Reagans, 1 Teddy Roosevelt, 0 middle class.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Lots of "Liebermans" too.

He seems to be the only one in American who doesn't know that Lieberman's name doesn't mean jack shit.

And an old guy really shouldn't be throwing around old man terms like "tiller."

What's a tiller, anyway? Sounded like something from Mutiny on the Bounty.
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
ot, but oh well, I think one thing many conservatives don't realize is the people who say 'god damn america' are often some of the best patriots our nation has, b/c they are not unwilling to critisize. The feeling of unity conservatives felt after 9-11, was b/c they were coming home to having these people on their side...
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
    GOOD!

Secret Service is investigating "Kill Him!" shouter at Sarah Palin rally:

  • twostepcub · 1 year ago
I'm just worried that that crazy isn't the first or the last, but simply the only one caught...
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I heard that on Olbermann before the debate. Good. These crazies have got to be held accountable for their dangerous and "erratic" behavior. By the way, do we know where McCain was when this was shouted out?
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Just saw this great song called "Hey Sarah Palin..."

    Its great:

g'nite! I'm heading in myself. Lost track of time and it's 1;40 Whew!
  • Oldnovice · 1 year ago
Exactly. McCain's base plays to him, but independents don't. His jokes get no response, his "my friends" creeps everyone out, and (heh) I think if independents had been present during his episode of "How about Sarah Palin ... EHHH? EHHHH? ... they would have gone running for the exits.
