Or at least fake that they are going to, to get the press talking about it.
All's fair in love and war.

B-b-but! Th-th-that's different! John McCain was a tortured war hero, so he deserved all the "comfort" and "healing" he could get when he got back to an ungrateful nation who spat on war heroes. Edwards was just a shallow slick uppity country boy shyster who bilked millions upon millions from honest doctors and helpful insurance companies, so he doesn't get any "free pass" on the adultery front!!

Speaking of which, did any of you, old enough, ever SEE anyone SPIT on a returning Viet Nam vet? I sure didn't.
More GOP/media LIES. No, not "falsehoods" -- stinking lies. Yes, yes, I realize that somewhere, someone might have spit on a vet. But not more than 10 or so, nationwide, over several years.

ron071
Once again Butch1 is right on target. Rove is a man who lies to live and lives to lie. That is why McBush was told to use him to direct his campaign. Only lies and some racism are available to Mc Bush whose record of 26 years is a sham both politically and morally.
Butch1
Unfortunately, we will have to find a way to flush out Rove and show that he is behind all of this. That may distress McBush enough to fire him. ( or at least push him back under the rock from whence he came.
ron071
Butch1: Before McSame's director Rove is " flushed out " perhaps he can be forced to obey the subpoenas issued to him. This man is above the law as is the entire criminal administration we've suffered under for 8 years.
Butch1
This of course, would take some leadership from Congress to put his feet to the fire, but we know none of them with any power, has the cojones to do anything about it except whine, wring hands, and complain that we do not have a super majority to do anything. Pelosi may look into the question whether they are going to bring impeachment up or not, but she has always said that they were not going to impeach anyone. She is just trying to run out the clock. All the eyes of the country are watching them and if they ignore their duty, they may have to pay the price by losing their seat in Congress. Who knows, if that happens, perhaps, we should add their names to those being indited as conspirators and let the chips fall where they may. We need to clean House and Senate of this dead wood and republican sympathizers and we do that by elections. (hopefully if those haven't been tinkered with)
ron071
butch: The calculation to leave the impeachment fiasco off the table will be played out in the election. Thus far, the polls indicate a strong democratic lead in congressional contests. If this eventuates, the strategy wil be viewed as successful. ron
I this allows them to go after Bush et al after he has no power to control the situation, I would be for that, but I am also hearing that the democrats what to drop it and just move on, that is where I have the problem with our "leadership." I hope there are smarter minds than I am working out the strategy for this.
ron071
Butch, Keep the faith. First things first or never. There are enough in-the-pipeline actions that will bring the Bush/Cheney disasters to a proper end but ONLY if the Democrats gain real contrrol in Congress. Without that, nothing can happen. Their strategy seems correct. Keep the faith. ron
Fingers & toes crossed, but I won't hold my breath, I've been disappointed so many times in these past eight years. ;-) I guess the dems will have to put up finally or be voted down. Here's hoping the will do the right thing.
ron071
Butch1: You will only be disappointed when your expectations are not realistic. If the democrats have effective control ( veto proof ) of congress we will have reason to expect more of them. Keep the faith. First things first. We must get rid of the Republicans who wrought disaster upon the US for the past 8 years of the Bush/Cheney admin. and 10 of the past 12 years of Republican congressional control with 2 more years of effective control to thwart most progressive action.
If the Dems would only do their job. I guess what bothers me more is that when a party is in control of the House or the Senate, they get to control which bills are brought up for a vote. I have yet, read a reason why they continue to bring up bills that hurt us rather than tabling them like the republicans have done time again. The immunity for the telephone companies did not have to be addressed this session yet, they trip over themselves to help republicans get what they want. I would think if you didn't have a clear majority vote on something that important, you would keep it off the table until you did. I guess we'll see soon enough. I still plan on voting in as many democrats as I am allowed but after that, we had better see them stand up for us and either bring charges on this lawless bunch or explain why not.
ron071
Butch: Keep the faith. You WILL see a change if and when real control of Congress is in Democratic hands and Republican obstructionism is eliminated. Real responsibility for the agenda and the outcomes only exists when real control is at hand. Ron
Ok. Meanwhile, are you aware that over the past eight years this government has approved building over 600 FEMA detention (concentration) camps that are functioning with staff and ready for its inhabitants if or when Bush declares Martial Law? They claim it is for illegal immigrants ( 600 of them?) but one can see them also being used for dissenter's of this government, "enemy of the state", "terrorists", or "enemy combatants" which ever Bush decides to call the persons in question. Google "FEMA Detention Camps."

John Sydney McCain is also guilty of prostituting himself out to a power hungry trollop who thinks she can use her $100 million dollar "worth" to buy her way into the position of First Lady. A "position" that would be one of the few she hasn't tried yet. And has Cindi McTart passed a recent drug test? I just don't believe that the American people are ready to put a recovering drug addict, who stole prescription medications from those that needed them, into the office of First Lady.

McCain will get a pass on this because he was a POW and POWs are allowed by the Constitution to have affairs, marry more than once, and call their wives the "C" word in public - The POW card trumps all others.
Mikki --SE Pennsylvania
Maybe, but he was POW who collaboraed with the enemy. In my book, that trumps the POW crap and really gives the lie to the "war-hero" fantasy that McBush3 has burnished and polished all these years trying to keep it alive. I really wish some real POWs and war-heros, ones who had no pull with family members in the command structure, would speak up and out and give the final lie to McBush3s long-running attempts at self-aggrandizement. McCain is a deceitful, petty, little man and moral leper.

I can't believe how many idiots there are in the country. I was reading the comments on the Edwards story in The Chicago Tribune, and there are several people there insisting that Barack Obama had already named John Edwards his VP choice a couple of weeks ago but is now going to withdraw his name. What alternative universe are these people living in? They are either idiots or Rovlings trying to spread The Great Lie around. The Edwards story is very sad, especially for Elizabeth, but if the Republicans want to make hay out of it, the parallels are between Edwards and McCain and will have to be brought out.
Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas
But those parallels will NOT be brought out because the corporate media are trying desperately to restage 2000...bring the vote close enough to steal with Diebold and the SCOTUS. Or even better help Rove stage a 9/11 so Dick Cheney can command a total coup d'etat and martial law around Halloween.

The Sunday morning BS artists will be hard pressed to castigate Edwards and paint him as a monster while they continue to cover up the corrupt behavior of their annointed hero, the saintly John McCain. Their years of experience covering up the criminal behavior of Bush/Cheney has prepared them for this challenge and I'm sure they'll pull it off in their usual perfidious style.
foolme1ns
Oh, no they will do just fine. They will just completely ignore the fact that John McCain was laying pipe with Cindy while still married to a crippled woman. Adultery is ONLY relevant when a democrat does it. For a republican, it's no big deal. Sort of like breaking federal laws. You just don't mention it when it is a republican. Such bad taste and all of that.
The real question is going to be, can Obama recover from John Edwards affair?
Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas
Please read this today if you have not gone there already. It's the McCain history in a nutshell by a Phoenix reporter and it's very scathing about them both. It's long but worth saving and reading and forwarding...
Just how partisan can the media get? They are trying to spin it that Edwards adultery is Obama's problem as if Obama committed the adultery. Fine! I agree that Edwards is disgusting especially since his wife has had a reoccurrance of cancer and probably won't survive. How the hell is this Obama's problem? They are just trying to distract from McCains repeated adulterous affairs. If anything Edwards adultery reflects on McCain and neither McCain nor Edwards are fit to sit in the Orval Office.
Of course, we already have a far worse excample of lack of fitness for the Oval Office, but need I say who. Just will say, eveb Barney, his dog is vastly over-qualified compared to his master. Any discussion of who is qualified in terms of morality, character, intelligence or experience are silly when you consider that revolting ass.

The slicing and dicing over sexually compromised individuals is silly as is angst over the numbers of morality angels dancing on particular emotionally retarded pinheads. Is fame so potent an aphrodisiac that powerful men regularly swan dive into oblivion for the sake of incessant procreative urges? I hardly think so. As with the torrid sexual puzzles most of us can call our own, it is safest to assume missing jigsaw pieces of cause and effect even within individual reflection much less the dull public beam of media. If sexual sin must be barred from our virginal White House, then playful Johnny must not be allowed to enter. The Edwards family should be left in private by the media excitement addicts but I really feel Mr. Edwards inappropriately collected campaign donations and should return these funds to his betrayed supporters including myself.

I think Ike's girlfriend was no longer his girlfriend after the end of WWII. I recall reading that Truman told him to give her up and come home to Mamie or else. I think the or else was on the lines of being demoted or perhaps even court martialed. It was, and maybe still is, against the rules for officers (maybe E.M.s too) to commit adultery.

Outside her Bel-Air home, Nancy Reagan stood arm in arm with John McCain and offered a significant -- but less than exuberant -- endorsement. More of the same. The media will say (if they even mention McCain's adultery at all) that it is "ancient history." Remember that fat GOPer, during the Clinton-Monica impeachment hearings? He was leading the charge, when it was found out (although everyone in DC knew) that he had a YEARS-long affair with someone, when he was married. The funniest part was that he brushed it off, calling it a "youthful indiscretion." While it went on when he was in his 40s. haha Youthful, only to a McCain. And that is what McCain will say. And what the media will follow with, if they even mention it.
And Iseman? Well, you know, it was never PROVEN. (Why can't DC sleuths ever get proof, like they do with Democrats?)

It has the Republican smell all over it and the in-the-pocket-media plays along with this latest cover-up. I believe that if she were tracked down the funding source for her hide-away would also be revealed. But it's John Edwards who needs to be followed and exposed. The smell is overwhelming! Ron

And that same scenario plays out over and over. The GOP -- and the media -- still love Newt -- who was married 3 times. And always left his wives for a younger floozy. Personal life vs. Political life
Yes, he's sleazy. Yes, he shouldn't have a political career after this. But come on. This is a personal issue. Leave it alone. This affair shouldn't cause Edwards' political ideologies to die with it. We need others to take up his goals and ideas because, as uncouth as his behavior was, his political ideals are still worth fighting for.
NO! This is not just a personal issue. At this critical point in our history, John Edwards risked the election with lies that would surely have been revealed during his campaign.
Do you believe any of us would have donated to his campaign had we known the truth?
shell
The question is: WHY would you not have donated to him? Because he cheated on his wife ... or there was the danger he might have gotten caught?
Americans need to decide. IS adultery that bad? If so, then why do the majority of Americans cheat on their spouses? And if Americans are honest, and say adultery isn't that bad, why should politicians be any different? Of course, they aren't serious about adultery -- if they were, Newt, Henry Hyde, and scores of other GOPers wouldn't be around any more. But they are. (What about the GOPig who went to a prostitute and wore diapers, and was then applauded when he returned to the House?) It is a joke. A game. And of course the very serious Religious Right turns their head.
For the record, this isn't a "you are saying this because YOU are an adulterer" scenario. I have never cheated on a spouse, or even a boyfriend.
But that's America -- outlaw prostitution -- what's the crime? Outlaw marijuana -- what's the crime? Prostitution is no harm, no foul. Marijuana is only illegal because it is easy to grow in your back yard -- the govt. can't get taxes from its sale.
Everything in America is about $$$$$ -- not "morals."

This is not about adultry. As you will notice, my comment states that his behavior risked giving this election to John McCain. This is the issue.
As for who John Edwards fucks, I could not care less. I DO care that he stood in front of national cameras and lied to the public and to his supporters about fucking one of his campaign workers.
At some point the US should have the discussion about open and more truthful marriages, but in 2008, in this critical election, with mighty forces trying to keep the government in their control, with the very survival of our country in the balance, this isn't the time.
Thus, I would not have donated to Edwards had I known the truth.

That is why I put on there:
" ... or there was the danger he might have gotten caught?"
As I stated, I see there are two different ideas/ideals.
Why would John Edwards do this in 2008 ... 2007, whatever? Who knows? For years, I have marveled at politicians who do things -- always sex, because, lately, America finds nothing else worthy of losing a candidacy EXCEPT sex -- they know will get them booted. Is it because most politicians love danger? Is it because they feel "entitled?" I would guess it is because of what Edwards himself said -- in other words, he got too cocky. (Sorry about the pun.)
Just know this: give your money to NO ONE if you get squeamish about this sort of thing. It could happen to ANY of the candidates -- yes, even Obama. And, of course, it already HAS happened to McCain, but nothing will be done about it.

mirth, How do you explain any and all contributions to the candidate-adulterer McCain which have long continued after the adultery was well known? Square this for me.

If he had been the nominee, it would be a public, political issue. And yes, it would have been an enormous disaster. But he's not. He's not in the running for President. He's not in the running for Vice-President. He's not around for anything. It should be an issue between him and his family. And No, he shouldn't have any other life in politics. I agree he should be finished politically.

Until his recent revelation, even if Obama had ruled him out, Obama supporters would have continued our pressure to include Edwards in his administration.
Some of the $ given to the Edwards campaign went to pay the salary of his mistress and, most likely, continues to pay for her silence. He returns all donations under, say, $500 and we'll call it finished. It will then be personal between himself and his family.
Until then, it isn't.
Edit:
On 2nd thought, why should his donation payback be capped? His larger donations should also all be returned.
Return all donations and then it becomes personal.

Why not return all campaign contributions from the candidate adulterer? Equal contributions returns from ALL adulterers would be fair. Let's do it. Will all candidate adulterers stand up?

Thid story of media selectivity has become the poster child for the biased MSM. How on earth can they devote endless time to non-candidate Edwards and ignore candidate McCain's very real adultery? HOW? HOW? HOW? Even McSame supporters will recognize this disparity and should question the entire McSame candidacy.
Or at least fake that they are going to, to get the press talking about it.
All's fair in love and war.
More GOP/media LIES. No, not "falsehoods" -- stinking lies. Yes, yes, I realize that somewhere, someone might have spit on a vet. But not more than 10 or so, nationwide, over several years.

be played out in the election. Thus far, the polls indicate a strong
democratic lead in congressional contests. If this eventuates, the strategy wil be

realistic. If the democrats have effective control ( veto proof ) of congress we
will have reason to expect more of them. Keep the faith. First things first.
We must get rid of the Republicans who wrought disaster upon the US for the
past 8 years of the Bush/Cheney admin. and 10 of the past 12 years of
Republican congressional control with 2 more years of effective control to thwart
most progressive action.

There isn't anything like this in BARACK Obama's past.
The guy's a straight arrow.
A "position" that would be one of the few she hasn't tried yet.
And has Cindi McTart passed a recent drug test? I just don't believe that the American people are ready to put a recovering drug addict, who stole prescription medications from those that needed them, into the office of First Lady.
Quit smoking that silly weed. The American people put a druggie/drunk into the Oval Office. What makes you think that they would hesitate for a second to make another druggie the First Lady.
(overheard from Betty Ford)
Which is it McCain? Yes, or no? Answer the question!
Love that he got a shot in on McCain.
Most of the country doesn't even know about Gramps' past.
Good job, John.
They talked about the sick wife McCain abandoned. ect.
Was very good to hear.
at least
Maybe I'm wrong and I might admit that more so and quickly, but what if these individuals are actually not more mammal than something else...
just sayin'
Busboy isn't one of them. He had a bad car accident and changed his personality.
The real question is going to be, can Obama recover from John Edwards affair?
http://black-max.dailykos.com/
Of course, we already have a far worse excample of lack of fitness for the Oval Office, but need I say who. Just will say, eveb Barney, his dog is vastly over-qualified compared to his master. Any discussion of who is qualified in terms of morality, character, intelligence or experience are silly when you consider that revolting ass.
You corn-servatives are a perv-riddled hoot!
How will John Edwards affair effect Obama's campaign?
How will John McCain's affair and abandonment of his first wife effect Obama's campaign?
What will be the negative impact of John McCain's offering his wife up for a titty contest be on Obama's campaign?
With all this negative publicity keep Obama's lead over McCain in the low 10's?
He won't.
Because he can't.
"He apparently also made payments to the former campaign aide, Andrew Young, who has publicly claimed to be the father of Hunter's child."
McClatchy
What isn't apparent is why was Mr. Young, who admits his liaison with her and claims paternity of her child, who remained with his wife and is still with his wife, also receiving payments.
Truth isn't truth until all of it is told.
Let's not discuss this anymore.
Somebody has to get on like BillO or Sean Insanity and mention the McCain affair on the air and get it out there.
A friend Jamie emailed that yesterday. I do believe he's got a point.
Didn't George Will have to have a cocaine-coated hamster removed from his rectum at a DC Emergency Room?
McCain's broken marriage and fractured Reagan friendship
The nature and timing of his divorce from Carol Shepp alienated key friends -- and his version doesn't always match that in court documents.

Outside her Bel-Air home, Nancy Reagan stood arm in arm with John McCain and offered a significant -- but less than exuberant -- endorsement. "Ronnie and I always waited until everything was decided, and then we endorsed," the Republican matriarch said in March. "Well, obviously this is the nominee of the party." They were the only words she would speak during the five-minute photo op.
"John McCain's a great family man. He's still married to his high school sweetheart Cindy"-cable news
Isn't that more of an outrage than extramarital sex? We are a sick sick country.
"If your wife gained weight and became very ill, what would you do if you met a young beer heiress named Cindy who let you know she thought she would make a great trophy wife? Would you cheat on your sick wife, or would you do the next right thing? Finally, what does that say about your judgment?"

"Where in the world is Vicki Iseman? What happened to her, and did you have anything to do with her disappearance?"
"The American people see a lot of the candidate's children. Are there any other children from any other marriages that the public does not get to see? If you have had other marriages, who are those children and why aren't they featured in your campaigns?"
and that is MSM bias. It's as simple as that. ron

And Iseman? Well, you know, it was never PROVEN. (Why can't DC sleuths ever get proof, like they do with Democrats?)

Has a missing person's report been made for the " missing " Vicki Iseman?
Where is she? Why has she fled? One would think that these questions would
be raised. Why have they been ignored?
Easy! Because McCain is a Republican.

smell all over it and the in-the-pocket-media plays along with this latest

And, just like that fat GOP SOB, he was caught getting oral sex from a 3rd party DURING the Clinton impeachment hearings!
America is so fucked up.
Yes, he's sleazy. Yes, he shouldn't have a political career after this. But come on. This is a personal issue. Leave it alone. This affair shouldn't cause Edwards' political ideologies to die with it. We need others to take up his goals and ideas because, as uncouth as his behavior was, his political ideals are still worth fighting for.
http://liberalretort.blogspot.com/
Do you believe any of us would have donated to his campaign had we known the truth?
