Obama admin's OPM, headed by a gay man, reportedly blocks lesbian from getting health benefits
On July 27 Malek returned a memo identifying 50 BLS employees by party affiliation and religion. Among party identification, there were 25 Democrats, 1 Republican and 9 other. Malek's memo added, "In addition, 13 out of the 35 fit the other demographic criterion that was discussed." Under this section it was later scribbled, "Most of these are at the top." Malek later said his method of identification was based on looking at surnames. By September 8, 1971, BLS employees with Jewish-sounding last names had been demoted or moved to other offices and replaced by loyal Republicans. Malek's actions in this regard have been covered heavily at Slate
but obama doesn't wear a flag pin
Timmy is on MSNBC now. They are arguing whether or not Obama can win the G.E. I'll say this now: If Clinton gets the nomination I will officially become a repug. IMHO she would be a hundred times worse then McCain. Sorry Grandpa. He was a life-long Dem and never voted for a repug in his life. I dislike the Clintons so much I could not bring myself to vote for her.
Top 10 Reasons That The Superdelegates Should Select Hillary Over Barack
Although I'm supporting John McCain for President in 2008, I have to admit that I'd rather see Hillary Clinton as his opponent. That's not because I think she'd be a weaker candidate; it's because I'd love to see that smug tin god, Barack Obama, humbled and forced to taste bitter defeat at Hillary's hands.
Ironically, just a few months ago, I would loved to have seen Hillary beaten by Barack because she seemed to have such a sense of entitlement about the Democratic nomination. So now, the shoe is completely on the other foot.
Come to think of it, that may be Barack Obama's only significant accomplishment: he has been the first Democrat who has ever made conservatives see any good at all in Hillary Clinton.
Additionally, in the spirit of Operation Chaos, I'd like to see the Democratic fight over the nomination be as long and bloody as possible. Moreover, believe it or not, I have developed the slightest twinge of "sympathy for the devil" since the mainstream media has started treating her like an "honorary Republican" for daring to try to defeat Obama.
So, when the MSM essentially adopts the Obama campaign's position and argues that Hillary should get out now, even though she can still win, I feel the chivalrous urge, counter-productive though it may be, to defend her just a bit -- especially since Hillary Clinton does have a very strong case to make to the Democratic superdelegates who will decide the winner of the race. What case would that be? Well...
1) Hillary's voters are more likely to defect to McCain than Obama voters are if their candidate doesn't get the nod. In fact, according to a Gallup poll last month, 19% of Obama voters would vote for McCain if Barack lost, but 28% of Hillary's voters would do the same if the situation were reversed. Of course, the percentages wouldn't turn out to be that high, but however you slice it, the conventional wisdom about Obama's supporters being the ones that sit home or defect if he loses appears to be wrong.
2) According to a study done at Yale, "(i)n House races, white Democrats are 38 percentage points less likely to vote Democratic if their candidate is black."
Think about those numbers and then consider that McCain is a moderate who may genuinely appeal to many white middle-of-the-road Democratic voters and that Obama has refused to disavow his connection with anti-white racist, Jeremiah Wright. It's not a pretty picture for Obama, is it?
3) In a number of states, including Pennsylvania, Barack did significantly worse than his poll numbers indicated that he would. What that suggests is that there is a Bradley Effect happening in large swathes of the country that is making Obama's numbers look 4-5 points higher than they are in reality. Take away that bump, especially in key states like Pennsylvania, and Obama would clearly be a weaker candidate against McCain than Hillary Clinton.
4) Hillary has beaten Obama in the large swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, and Ohio. Chances are, these states are going to decide who the winner of the 2008 election is and Hillary seems to be running stronger in all of them than Barack so far.
5) In a Republican winner take-all system, Hillary would be ahead of Obama. Granted, "If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride," but it's still worth noting that Barack only has more delegates than Hillary because he has managed to game the Democrats' wacky primary system.

:)
Add to that that I wouldn't have to bother going to the polls if Hillary Clinton is the nominee, unless I was pissed off enough about it to go in and vote for McCain.
TOO STUPID, TOO INFIRM, TOO OLD.
Some very strange conservative activists, apparently with far too much time on their hands, launched an initiative last November to limit U.S. troops’ access to adult materials. It never occurred to me that policy makers would take this seriously, but apparently, they are.
To quickly recap for those just joining us, Congress banned sales of sexually explicit materials on military bases 11 years ago, but the Pentagon continues to allow base stores to sell magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse, which officials don’t consider explicit enough to prohibit.
The American Family Association and the Alliance Defense Fund, two religious right groups, demanded the Congress and Defense Secretary Robert Gates takes steps to scrutinize materials, including magazines and films, sold to the troops and their families.
Defense officials “don’t want to take porn away from soldiers,” ADF attorney Patrick Trueman said. “They say, ‘well, 40% of this magazine is sexually explicit pictures, but 60% is writing or advertising, so the totality is not sexually explicit.’ That’s ridiculous.”

The idea that porn causes harm in a war zone is ridiculous.
I would think (I could be wrong...I'm a man) that female soldiers would want the men to have access to whacking material.
Seriously.
After all, if you're out here in the real world, you're lucky to get any disability and a pittance for SS...and you have to get any other retirement money on your own.

Hate to say it, but that's why I've concluded a McCain presidency would be better for the Democratic Party and the country than a Hillary presidency.
If the Dems build a supermajority, they should be able to push McCain around, even on Supreme Court appointments.
Whereas Hillary would surely kill the downticket Dems in 2008 and eventually lose Congress like her husband did--especially 'cos her "Reagan Democrat" base is dying off--enabling the Repubs to push her into her already pronounced Neocon and Supply Sider ways.
(Because I believe Obama is the first harbinger of an emerging new majority--that will happen with or without him--his majority will only get stronger as time goes on.)
From the very beginning, Republicans have tried desperately to claim Obama is a "fraud". . .touting their own obvious fraud as an alternative. Their campaign philosophy? How DARE the American people want any candidate who talks of hope and the power of the people and of uniting to handle major issues facing America. That concept is so foreign, so threatening to the Republican philosophy that they immediately gnash their teeth in rage and derision, demanding that Americans accept suffering and misery and fear and division.
Behind every claim by the Republicans that Obama is a "fraud" is the larger reality that the Republican Party is a scam - and the American people increasingly understand. It's only the Right which hasn't grasped this reality - since their grip on the media constantly reinforces their positions - but the American people have moved on.
People know they are not only worse off than they were eight years ago, but no longer have any faith that a Republican could do anything else but continue to worsen their situation. They know the media is full of shit with it's tabloid attempts to deflect from that reality and their paltry efforts to vilify the Democrats while raising the old man to sainthood. They also know that it was conservatives who, in their constant whining about the "liberal" media, taught the American people what they REALLY think media was meant to be - a means of propagandizing conservative political talking points to control them. Media credibility hasn't risen with conservative ownership - in fact, the Right has successfully managed to pretty much destroy any trust in the media - for anyone. And now, as they try to use their tawdry "We love America - and the "liberals" don't" lines, people understand that actions are much louder than words - and know who it is who really hates America.
I would think (I could be wrong...I'm a man) that female soldiers would want the men to have access to whacking material.
Seriously.

Their sexual peak is later in life, so the need isn't as urgent.
Could there be a calculated, cross-country plot to kill young college men, including some in Minnesota? It seems a little hard to believe, but two New York detectives say they can prove it.
Now, they are revealing years of their evidence for the first time to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS...

University of Minnesota college student Chris Jenkins was found in the Mississippi River in February of 2003.
Minneapolis Police began investigating the case, which also caught the attention of two retired NYPD detectives.
Turns out, Jenkins' death was the missing part of the puzzle for Kevin Gannon and Anthony Duarte.
They think Jenkins connects dozens of other deaths around the country over the last decade. The stories are the same all over the country--an athletic, intelligent, well-liked college student goes missing.
Family and friends launch a massive search. Weeks or months later, the young man is discovered drowned. In more than 40 cases, the deaths are blamed on a drunken accident--except for one.
The death of Chris Jenkins in Minneapolis is the only one
"The level of evil we are dealing with here is rampant, it's deep and it's widespread," Chris' mother Jan Jenkins told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS
where the cause of death was changed from 'undetermined' or 'drowning' to 'homicide.'
"I can honestly tell you that I've walked every step of the way and it is hard for me to believe," Chris' mother Jan Jenkins told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. "The level of evil we are dealing with here is rampant, it's deep and it's widespread."
Because of extensive investigation by Duarte and Gannon, Jan Jenkins now says she knows exactly what happened to her son on the night he disappeared, Oct. 31, 2002.
"Chris was abducted in a cargo van," she said. "He was driven around Minneapolis for hours and tortured. He was taken down to the Mississippi River and he was murdered. And after that, his body was positioned and taken to a different spot and then to a different point in the Mississippi River," she said.
Gannon and Duarte say they've discovered a link between Jenkins' death and the drownings of at least 40 other men in 25 cities in 11 different states.
It began in New York

If McCain got into the white house, he'd almost have to embrace the Dems like Bubba embraced the Repubs, on such issues as NAFTA and Welfare Reform.
No, I really think if we're going to hold off the future with a backward-looking McCain/Hillary election, it might be just as well if McCain won.
MSNBC is one of McCain's enablers. I am beginning to think Olberman is pulling the wool over our eyes too. Abrams is beginning to show his true colors and me thinks Olberman is too. The first half hour of his show is usually pro Democrat but the second half hour is inane. How can you take seriously a guy who tries to mimic the voices of O'Reilly, and whoever else he is picking on at the moment. Silly stuff. How can you take seriously a guy who sits along side of Matthews and not tell him to stuff it once in awhile and can only nod in agreement to whatever fluff Tweety puts out. Maybe I am becoming too cynical and taking all the talking heads too seriously, and not one of them should be taken seriously at all. They repeat, repeat, repeat and then spin some more. Gawd, I am becoming just like them. Will this nonsense never end?
Dubbed the "Billification" of Sen. Clinton's campaign by some insiders, Mr. Clinton has become something of a strategist-in-chief in recent weeks. He has been pushing for harder and sharper attacks on Sen. Obama. While she has jabbed her opponent over his "elitist" tone and controversial statements by his former pastor, Mr. Clinton delivers his own slams on the stump, calling Obama ads misleading.
The former president says he's in uncharted territory. "Being the spouse is more difficult than when I was the candidate," he says in a brief interview. "When you're running, you're out there driving every day. But when you're the spouse, you feel more protective. It's much harder."
Mr. Clinton has placed several of his own aides at headquarters, including his former lawyer and a bevy of strategists. Known as a bad loser, Mr. Clinton privately buttresses his wife's drive to push on, telling her, according to aides: "We're not quitters."
On his own daily message calls, advisers say, he implores: "We've got to take him on every time." At the Clintons' Washington, D.C., home recently, these people say, he reviewed possible TV spots and told ad makers to be more hard-hitting, faster and harsher.
Mr. Clinton also told the campaign to double the number of his daily appearances. "Look at this schedule -- you've got me down for four events," he said the week before Pennsylvania's primary, according to one operative. "Give me six, eight a day. Get me to the suburbs where I can make a difference."

It's a fascinating read/listen, and would really bring folks to a higher level of understanding the political process on both sides of the aisle.
Just a thought! Think we can take that thought anywhere?
