AMERICAblog: John McCain wants you to feel good about offshore drilling since it won't really help with the gas prices

  • Busboy · 1 year ago
McCain has it right for a change. Just to threaten to drill our own oilfields should drop the price by $30 per barrel...

Unfortunately McCain (and Bush) have it wrong. Just because they say they want open up the US waters to oil exploration, doesn't mean there are enough deep water ships and platforms to get this done on a short term basis. Even if we could develop crude oil production tomorrow, where would we refine it? US refineries are operating at over capacity now. The last US oil refinery was brought online in Garyville, LA in 1976! The cost of a new refinery is $3 to $5 billion and the industry average return is about 5%....who's interested? No one! A US I-Bond will pay more over time without risk! Bush (who should know better) and McCain (who doesn't know shit about deep water oil exploration) are engaged in political deception....as usual.

McCain: ... would have psychological impact that I think is beneficial...to my being elected president.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Mirth at -2000 shows you that, nominally, there are people on this blog with shit for brains. Forcing her into my -4100 category means that there are some really mealy mouthed big government bloodsuckers inhabiting this blog.

This seems to be a Repub tenet now.

I remember when Bush accused the Democrats of trying to ruin the economy by "talking it down."

Guess they've given up trying to balance the budget or develop new industries or improve our balance of trade.

Now they think mass hypnosis is the answer.

I think the ratings are suspended? Could you rate someone if you were banned?

we need to stop drilling for oil, stop burning oil and stop burning coal. there are lots of alternatives, lots of jobs in the alternatives, it's all good.

with McDrillCrazy, we'd just continue suiciding ourselves right off the planet.

tls? stick to what you know.....

So by "psychological impact" does McCain mean he won't be drilling? Is he trying to bluff the markets? I don't have a clear idea from him whether he's relying on a cost/benefit analysis or some kind of voodoo way to game the system.
