They use that "former prisoner of war" line for anything.
He was up to his ass in the S&L scandal, but he was a former prisoner of war.
He left his cripple wife for a rich young rodeo queen, but he was a former prisoner of war.
His brain is so bad that he can barely tie his shoes and dress, but he was a former prisoner of war.
His top economic advisor is responsible for the mortgage crisis, but he was a former prisoner of war.
He flagrantly broke the campaign finance laws, but he was a former prisoner of war.

Now, I'm not positive, and possibly I missed something. However, at one point, in between questions, McCain said something regarding, he wanted to answer, to address "the one about the Supreme Court Justices." Reverand Rick said, "I'll get to that." I sat there thinking to myself, did I miss something, I recall Barack answering that, however, I don't recall the reverand asking McCain anything yet about the justices. However, I can't be sure because I was crocheting and I was also trying not to throw up from the crap coming from McCain's mouth. In the beginning his ticking off the bills he supposedly opposed his party on, for the "good of the country" and he said "torture." Just about lost my dinner right there.
McCain was so Bush-like in his jokes and laughing. How many times did he use the phrase "my friends" -- please! But the way he always seemed to bring the answer around to when he was a POW. Personally, I'm 61. My brothers are both Vietnam Vets, and I know a lot of Vietnam Vets. None of them ever want to talk about what happened to them or what they saw over there. I have seen similar articles how survivors of the concentration camps don't like to talk about what they endured. However, McCain seems to just love telling his little POW stories. Seems odd to me.

What was the CONE OF SILENCE supposed to be? If he was not in the actual "CONE OF SILENCE" then Pastor Rick Warren should not have SAID he was in the so called CONE OF SILENCE. If McCain was not where he should have been then Warren should have said Mr. McCain was supposed to be in location A but he was delayed and traveling to the church... PERIOD. Other than that it meant that Warren is another liar and that McCain is another one, it is irrelevant since Warren gave the questions to the McCain campaign a month ago to prepare for last night's performance. It was very obvious McCain was reciting the answers from memory as he never hesitatated and often answered before Warren finished the question. Obama is the far more mentally accute and articulate candidate, yet his answers caused him to pause and hmmm for the best answers. McCain never hesitated once, seemsed sometimes not to even stop to breathe. Whether or not McCain heard the questions in the car that night, it was irrelevant as he had already memorized the answers and he gained no further advantage other than perhaps reassurance that Warren had no intention of trying to trip him up. My guess is that if Warren had changed the sequence of the questions, even that would have tripped up McCain. Warren even tried to warn McCain that his answers were too fast and too fascile for sound natural.
It was just another example that the Republicans, right wing and these evangelical leaders will stop at nothing to win the election in 2008. My guess is that Satan was furious though that McCain was so robotic and fake in his delivery. Of course, if McCain had been an ethical man that he claims to be, he would have stated at the beginning that he had been in his car being driven to the forum and not in the "cone of silence" for the first half hour. He demonstrated his lack of integrity by failing to mention this breach of the rules of this discussion.

Headlines tonight blare that Obama is tearing into McCain. I think Obama is really pissed how much McCain cheated with Warren's complicity. It really brought home to how the Republicans and right wing will stop at nothing to prevent hm from being the first N----- to occupy the White House. I hope it has also made him far more aware that the Republicans will stoop to any means possible including what was done to JFK, RFK and MLK. I am not sure that the nation could stand it if another verse were added to the popular tragic song of the 70s. I don't want to be hearing the new lyrics,

He cheated in Saddleback, Keating 5, on his first wife, and all through his Naval career. So, what's new is that he has not yet been branded acurately as the next Republican liar and cheater.
Yep, one would think that this presidential race was a "no-brainer" but these republicans are going to use the tried and true method of scaring the public into voting for them yet again unless the democrats give it back to them even harder. We have too much to lose trying to play nice and fair. What ever it takes, they will try stealing this again and the fence-sitters better get their act together. Butch: In my view, any but the really wealthy and corporate rip-off artists who vote McSame must have been in the "cone of silence" for the past 8 years. There can be not other excuse other than ignorance and delusion. Ron
I agree about the really wealthy, alla Phil Gramm who is disgusted with the middle and lower income folks and calls us all whinners because we are not as unscrupulous as his is in business endeavors. There are no words to explain why middle and low income republicans continue to get screwed like the rest of us and still keep coming back for more and continue to believe these charlatans when they beat the fear drums and that they are the only one's who can protect the people. It defies logic, but McBush knows his base quite well.
ron071

Butch: The middle income Republican base which you say McCain knows " so well" is comprised of those so-called "Reagan Democrats" who are either ignorant of their own needs or racist, or some of each. For them, only more pain will overcome the other two characteristics. That seems to be the question for their awakening. Ron
Yes, it seems as though they would rather, "cut off their nose to spite their face" than look at what is really happening to them. As long as they can blame democrats, liberals, gays or what have you as a "whipping-boy" they will be happy enough.
ron071

Butch: Thanks for your follow-up response. Of course, I agree with your entire thesis but only paused at your last two words ( "happy enough" ). My contention is how much individual pain will it take to overcome this condition? It is my belief that given enough pain, even the most dull or biased among them will come to the realization that something is wrong with their thinking. This is my hope and expectation. Best, ron
Yes, that's a very good point though, it raises a question in me as to will it be too late by the time they come to their senses?! Of course, the rest of us suffer along with them whether or not, they even know why they suffer. It certainly isn't that reason the Bush administration ( and McBush ) have been using, wrapping themselves up in the flag with Bible in one hand and "flag pin" smartly pinned to their lapels. Take care, Ron.
Butch

Butch1: You know the old saying about fool me once, etc. What about fool me three times? I believe that enough has transpired during the past 8 years and enough pain has resulted to give us the majority. Certainly, the Obama campaign will not be the reason for any resulting debacle. ron
Of course, the media reporting the daily polls that suggest Obama and McBush are running in a dead heat do not help reality. It appears to me that they set us up for another "Diebolt Moment" where the stealing of an election is possible. I just wish these things could be proven and something done to these perps. And you don't think Pastor Rick would lie??? Why? Because people who run mega churches don't lie??? Sorry, no dice. Anyone with that much power and that much money floating around them, will lie and cheat to get what they want. There is no one in a mega church who believes less in God than the people running it. No true Christian believes for an instant that people are rich, because they are blessed.
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Rick Warren is no Christian. He is a huckster. A snake oil salesman. A conman, convincing rich people they can buy their way into heaven, by cheating and lying or whatever it takes for them to keep their wealth or obtain more.
You can't con a conman. Rick Warren is as much in this as Karl Rove ever was. There is more than one evil man in this world. And they are in a panic to keep control of the White House.
Simple solution....demand a debate. A REAL debate. One where one speaks, the other speaks, the first gets to rebut.
No church questions, questions on things that are the realm OF the president. The president isn't making laws that is the legislative arm of government, Congress. The president is not to circumvent the laws, nor should there be loopholes like "signing statments". Ask the candidates if they will reverse the terrible monarchy Bush has stolen by ignoring all laws he doesn't "agree with".

This whole event just gets funnier and funnier. When it was over and all of the balloon heads were analyzing evry "and" and "the", Chuck Todd - who is becoming more and more like his dunderheaded brethren Russert, Broder, Brooks a,d Brokaw by the minute - was raving hysterically about how Obama better watch his ass because McCain was going to DESTROY HIM like Rambo rewon the Vietnam War! But this wasn't a true debate in the first place. It is meaningless to the majority of Americans, who weren't even watching. It was on a Saturday night against the Olympics, for Christ's sake (no pun intended, Mr. Warren). But it is the McCain campaign that is delusional if they thought that this would help McCain in the long run, because a good performance at this "forum" - whether they knew the questions in advance or not, although personally, from the knowledge we have of Republican values, which are nil; I believe they DID know, considering that Charlie Black and Steve Schmidt have the ethics of a 3-card monte scam artist - only increases expectations for a good performance during the debates, and I have a strong feeling that tired, pasty, confused and self-important Mr. McCain will have to struggle to keep up with Obama during these events. You cannot constantly fall back on your POW status when you are trying to defend yourself against voting with Bush 95% of the time, and trying to start a war with Russia to make political points during a presidential election.

entire thesis but only paused at your last two words ( "happy enough" ). My
contention is how much individual pain will it take to overcome this condition?
It is my belief that given enough pain, even the most dull or biased among
them will come to the realization that something is wrong with their
thinking. This is my hope and expectation. Best, ron

me three times? If the flag, fear mongering, racism, etc. prevail against
basic knowledge and minimum intelligence on the part of the majority then all
will be lost regarding the future of this nation. I believe that enough has
transpired during the past 8 years and enough pain has resulted to give us the
majority. Certainly, the Obama campaign will not be the reason for any
resulting debacle. ron

John McCain and the POW church riot

No church questions, questions on things that are the realm OF the president. The president isn't making laws that is the legislative arm of government, Congress. The president is not to circumvent the laws, nor should there be loopholes like "signing statments". Ask the candidates if they will reverse the terrible monarchy Bush has stolen by ignoring all laws he doesn't "agree with".
"Oh my yes Johnny wore one of those FABULOUS Dubbya ear pieces so Karl could coach him on his Jeebus answers yesterday. Trouble is, Johnny put it in his bad ear...you know he's half deaf...and he misunderstood most of Karl's carefully researched answers...research he did in white trash Alabama focus groups. Well, possums, I need to run....getting a tit lift today....AGAIN...jesus the scars are barely healed but Johnny loves 'em perky and upright....catch ya later, possums!"
it was a lie and he knew it. false prophet. liar. a purpose driven liar.

Sounds elementary, but considering the audience it works.

Rick Warren is just another money grubbing a hole. He would lie at the drop of a hat. See the way he went after Obama compared to letting McCain spout his campaign platform word for word. Just another example of how the GOP play hard ball and the Dems as always are playing slow pitch. Now they will cover up and counter accuse. It was fixed all these things are and the Press and Andrea Mitchell can eat me.
That's being awfully generous, Joe. Gimme a break. It was a LIVE broadcast. I don't believe (and neither should anyone else) for a minute that a director or stage manager or SOMEONE hadn't said to the HOST, "um, one of our 'guests' hasn't arrived yet...stretch, baby, stretch...buy some time".
