GOP group depicts Obama with watermelon, ribs
    http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g7w3PIV...up...

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A San Bernardino County Republican group has distributed a newsletter picturing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on a $10 bill adorned with a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken.

Linking Obama to demeaning racist stereotypes drew denunciations from various GOP officials after the illustration appeared in the October newsletter of the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported Thursday.

Diane Fedele, president of the group, said she had no racist intent.

"I never connected," she told the newspaper. "It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else."

The Obama campaign declined to comment, saying it does not address such attacks.

The newsletter was sent to about 200 club members and associates last week by mail and e-mail. The club is a volunteer group that is not directly responsible to the state party, said California Republican Party press secretary Hector Barajas, who denounced the newsletter.

Fedele said she had received the illustration in e-mails and decided to reprint it to poke fun at a remark by Obama that he doesn't look like other presidents.

"It was strictly an attempt to point out the outrageousness of his statement. I really don't want to go into it any further," Fedele told the newspaper. "I absolutely apologize to anyone who was offended. That clearly wasn't my attempt."

Sheila Raines of San Bernardino, a black member of the club, complained about the image to Fedele.

"This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party," she said. "I'm really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes."

I only live a few miles from there and I have this overwhelming urge to drive down there with a truckload of watermelons and dumped them in this bitch's driveway. (except that I don't have a truck, can't drive a truck, and don't know where I'd get that many watermelons)

the Upside -- the group's web site got so many negative comments it either crashed or they had to take it down.

However, her is contact information from the GOP web site

To say that she didn't intend to do any harm is ridiculous.

here is the email i sent Diane Fedele:

I just read with great dismay that you have forwarded a demeaning image of Senator Obama along with ribs, fried chicken and watermelon. I imagine that you have no shame, no ethics and most of all no understanding of how racist that portrayal is. Then you claimed that in fact it was just to show him with some food. Republicans and the Republican Party are going down to defeat and deservedly so. There is no place in this country for this type of behavior and this kind of bigotry. You hide behind Freedom of Speach as a right but fail to show one ounce of compassion. I am sure you wrap the bible around your actions and claim to be a Christian. Lady there is nothing Christian about this action or in fact about anything that you believe. Your time as a party is over and it is time for America to get over its racist ways and accept all Americans.

    Shame on you.

Hate to be the second off the subject comment here, but I think this is important. There is a story that Dana Milbank of the WaPo wrote in an online chat that the Secret Service is being used to keep reporters away from Palin and her supporters at her rallies. Isn't this a big violation of freedom of speech and secondly, a political misuse of a government agency which is supposed to be neutral?
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
I meant to say freedom of the press.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Yes, press and speech plus misuse and/or malfeasance.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
also using the Secret Service not as protection, but as a campaign tool... keeping the reporters from interacting/interviewing supporters, and as an enforcement arm of the campaign...

when their sole function in the campaigns is to PROTECT the candidates from physical threat...

I find this new development to be more than horrifying, it is all too close a police state!

And yes, McCain still employs his $5,000.00 make-up artist.
    McEliteFancypants.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
My hunch is that he needs McFancypants because he is looking so ill lately. He needs to conceal a lot more than a pimple or two.

"My friends, America is ANGRY and hurting... America is ANGRY... I understand America is ANGRY..."

    Projecting much?!
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
....and that 'my friends' is why McCain is so angry....because he cannot, and is not able to get under Obama's skin. It's confounding to McCain, and he cannot contain himself. McCain is a head case. McCain cannot control the situation....and for a control freak, this is torture.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Well said! McCain's skull has been so effectively f^cked by the Uppity Upstart that he can't even see straight (hence all the blinking).
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Yes, the incessent blinking is a sign of someone who is lying, big time.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I also happen to believe that all of McCain's blinking, his bulging eyes, and the necessity to continue to rub them indicates the use of stimulants, uppers is my guess. Remember, John said that he's known to depend on Ambien these days, and if you take that by night, than chances are that you might need help during the days. That PLUS he's an old man and he needs to look young!
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Yes. Ambien creates a merry go round situation that is difficult to get off. It is a viscious circle. I can't take Ambien, it makes me crazy...it's a really bad drug, and you become dependent quickly. The commercials make it sound really benign, but it is evil.

More than once I noticed that McMad's voice was shaking with anger.
My friends, we don't want this guy within 30 miles of the button.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I agree however the GOP is trying to steal the election yet again. Take a look at what they are trying to do around this country, prosecuting ACORN (with the FBI no less) and at the state level many are already trying to challenge registrations claiming they are fraudulent. I heard this morning that this could disqualify over 2000,000 potential voters in Ohio alone.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
    Hi, Polly,
Yes, they will try to steal it.
Obama announced the other day that he had put together a team of lawyers who will be ready to go to any state where there is a problem.
The Atty. Gen's actions re ACORN are despicable.
But, since I can't do anything about it, I am going to try to keep positive thoughts and visualize Obama being sworn in---and continue to donate to Barack.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Hello Hawkseye, long time!

Yes, I think being positive is a good choice, but truthfully, I really do believe (and have for quite a long time now) that Obama is not only going to win, but will do so by a huge margin. That said, all of this criminal activity surrounding the election makes me crazy and the "evil doings" of the Bush Cheney team never cease to amaze.

Once this is over and Obama is sworn in, I'll buy you a drink to celebrate!
  • driver1076 · 1 year ago
Truth of the matter Obama is presidential and Mcnasty is a angry uptight control freak who cant believe he has lost this election to a black man.It truly is that basic and simple.

Can we say KKK = GOP. Are the minorities in the GOP in the twlight zone? I still don't get Gay Republicans, what's up with that?

Americans are already angry about the way things are going. We don't need a angry government, we need a government with a level head.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
As soon as Obama is sworn in, the holocaust will begin. The upside is that Israel will be destroyed and we won't have to have such a huge military presence outside the united states. Who gives a rat's ass which oil thief we have to buy oil from? We can bring the troops home and let Europe and the Saudi's and the Kuwaiti's fend for themselves. I would personally rather save Israel, but that's not a popular topic in the USA today......
  • PAULinDC · 1 year ago
Dude, it already has begun ... Darfur
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
"...the holocaust will begin. The upside is that Israel will be destroyed..."
    =========================================================

What on earth are you trying to sell now? I simply cannot fathom the nonchalance with which you say these kinds of horrific "predictions/preferences".
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Please, don't quote me out of context. If Israel is destroyed, then, we can leave the region. Why do we care from which despot we buy our oil? Let the Arabs cheerfully murder one another to see to whom the spoils belong......
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
This doesn't happen often, but I have been left totally and completely speechless.
  • Joneses · 1 year ago
Let me try this again. You mean the rapture don't you. Here in Los Angeles the Jewish community knows that Obama is no threat but an ally.

What happened to the GOP so called "moral high ground"?
  • TXfemmom · 1 year ago
If McCain can barely control his anger in a debate with Obama, what in the hell would he do with the Russians or anyone else who would take delight in goading him?
  • Cynicor · 1 year ago
Of course, I am in NO WAY attributing any of these obvious, observed traits to McCain. I just thought that the long list of obvious, observed traits might be of interest to some people.
