AMERICAblog: John McCain's Herbert Hoover Speech

  • stranded · 1 year ago
I've seen several comments on blogs about the left side of McCain's face drooping. I really think there's something seriously wrong (stroke, most likely), which may also explain why Palin has no trouble taking the lead in the campaign.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
yep. the left side of his face looks worse lately...
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
He needs a NEW MORTICIAN...I'll say it again. And get some botox in there dammit, his cheek is going to be resting on his shoulder soon.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
maybe robert and chris should have a debate on these bailouts.
  • rkarena · 1 year ago
Chris and I might disagree on this one. These companies are so interconnected that if they had to unwind their assets all at once in bankruptcy you could have a major financial meltdown. And with AIG, the government got a nearly 80% equity stake. That's not bailing out, it's buying. Whether a government should be in the business of owning companies is a really different question.

OLD FART ALERT OLD FART ALERT

The amount of lies in that so-called speech was unbelievable.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
More like Bush......Palin attuned to public will, than job detail.
She really would be a good fit in the present WH. She lies, is secretive, is clueless, and is an empty pant suit.

I'm glad you noticed the left eye (eyebrow). It's something I noticed last week--what is it? Melanoma? He needs to release his current medical records
  • luvboxer · 1 year ago
What is with this man! He has no idea what is going on..and he wants to run our country..no way. If the american people don't see this and still vote for this idiot they are nuts. That speech said nothing and I mean nothing. If I where a repubican I would be so ashame to have this man as my candidate.

WAKE UP AMERICA..ITS TIME FOR OBAMA/BIDEN TO RUN OUR COUNTRY....NOW IS THE TIME FOR CHANGE...
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
McCain has had several surgeries on the left side of his face for serious, not minor, melanoma, I have noticed over the past month how his facial structure seems to be changing. The lower left jaw area seems much larger than a few months ago. Compare pictures of his face from last year, there is definite change. It could be nothing more than swelling from stress or exhaustion , but I don't think so. Also watch his speech patterns, they are different too, it is as if his mouth will only open so far thus affecting his speech pattern.

McCain and Palin need to answer real questions from real journalists. Chatty little sit downs with Charles Gibson and Sean Haggerty don't tell us a thing about their qualifications. The MSM gets stiffed by John and Sarah and we don't hear a whisper of complaint. Gibson looked like he wanted to swallow his tongue when he asked the candy bar princess a question she wasn't prepped for.

i'm glad to see the SEC ban short-selling, at least temporarily. they should set up a separate 'stock market' for these goofs who want to gamble and make a quick buck...

  • nwit · 1 year ago
Yesterday McCain was going to fire the chairman of the SEC......it was pointed out that the President could not fire the Chairman.....so today he is calling for his resignation.....
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I noticed yesterday that Palin also used the phrase "poor judgment" in referring to Obama. Another new character smear from team McCain. I hope the hell team Obama comes back quickly on this slamming on Obama's judgment.
  • LeeFromHamburgNY · 1 year ago
Did Mac's speach writers take a vacation this week or is he trying to show his "maverick-ability" by making statements that, even the current whitehouse, would cringe at??? Just like the fiery crash of his jet in Viet Nam, his campaign appears to be in a downward trend. If his supporters don't see this, then Mac isn't the only one who "doesn't get it..."

This whole morning McCain production screams a leaderless, flailing campaign.
First, a backdrop and stage set copied from Mr. Obama's at the School of Mines while Johnny also seemed to crib Mr. Obama's manner of presentation.
Can a confused old man and his team of usual suspects, cribbing from the opposition and hopelessly adrift amid this national crisis, possibly lead us out of it?
    Of course not.
At least, thanks to Johnny, everyone now fully understands the term "listless applause".
But before Johnny, I wondered, "What happened to Mooselini?"
Ms. Excitement now seems kind of preoccupied and listless and even more the inconsequential strip mall bank loan officer or Perkin's waitress her grooming initially suggested.
Was her spirit crushed by a closeted Rove goon after yesterday's impulsive "Palin/McCain" utterance?
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
I believe Rove and his band of merry motherfuckers know McCain is incapable of running a farting contest after a baked bean dinner. Palin is the perfect replacement. she doesn't know shit and they can control her and have her sign any old bill without even having to explain it to her. McCain will have a sudden re occurence of his cancer, go off to Sedona and count dust bunnies under his hospital bed and Rove and the neocons will run the country for another 8 years and we will have nothing left.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
My philosophy is there is always someone out there that is more than willing to separate you from your money. Rather than work at an honest job, they spend time on how to achieve this with minimum of physical exertion. The current mortgage crisis is a perfect example

Bad loans conceived by greedy men in charge of financial houses are the root of this crisis. I would hope that whatever Paulson decides on to fix this mortgage crisis goes on not to just fix this crisis but to prevent further problems in years to come.
  • sisterfaith · 1 year ago
It is becoming increasingly obvious that this man has lost it. He appears to have something seriously wrong with this brain functions......

There are many vibrant, healthy 70+year-olds.

He is not one of them!!
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
I admit to not being that bright about derivatives and the like, but, since these are multinational companies that are failing does it not make sense that the rest of the world throw a little support behind keeping these companies solvent. If of course you believe they should be kept solvent.
I have a friend working at a big brokerage house on Wall Street. He has made millions every year in pay and bonus'. I talked to him yesterday and he was crying like a baby that he might lose his job. I reminded him about his comment some 5 years ago when we talked about jobs leaking overseas and profit taking by these same companies. His feeling was that the reason jobs moved overseas was that workers here were not productive and demanded wages that were out of line.
I told him that i pray to God, (tough being an athiest) that he lost his job, went on unemployment had it denied and had to live on dog food and dirty water. This guy made millions, pissed it away on a Ferrari, homes and bullshit and now wants us to help him keep his place at the top after screwing us for years. Fuck them all.
I think we need to have a reality check. If AIG has this bad debt problem let them do what we would do. Declare bankruptcy, re organize, clean up their management, no fucking golden horseshit payoffs and run their business the same way we have to. You can't have more debt than you can afford to cover. It is not the place of government to continually cover incompetence.

Did Mr. McCain offer a heart felt story about how the failure of Silver State Bank has devestated his family?

John, how about reiterating the Keating Five scandal.....
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
That should be FRANKLIN Raines. Today McCain will yoke Obama to Raines, and blame both for the "crisis." Raines will be positioned as Obama's economic Rev. Wright. Fox News is broadcasting abundant images of Raines. Raines is African-American. The pictures show just how African-American he is. Yes, he's VERY, VERY African-American, and just as much a traitor to America as the very, very, extremely African-American Jeremiah Wright.

"What's up with McCain's left eye?"
This reminds me of the first "Men in Black" movie, when the farmer's body was inhabited by the alien bug.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Thanks, Wikipedia! Raines is just as much an uppity upstart as Obama. Rhodes Scholar, Harvard. AND a Vietnam era draft dodger, to boot. Middle name: Delano. Started his illustrious career in the Carter White House. Expect the McCain campaign, with the right-wing noise machine, to launch a full-out assault on Raines as a symbol of everything vile about the Democats. And even worse than Wright.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
How can anyone not notice the difference between these two candidates on this issue. McCain has hopped in with smears against his opponent and trying to blame him for Fannie and Freddie, literally trying to blame Obama for all of this Obama is taking a more adult and intelligent position talking with leading economic advisors seeking answers and solutions.

One sees it as a campaign advantage, the other sees it as part of how to fix this nation.
  • nsr · 1 year ago
"The Chairman of the FEC should resign and be replaced." I wholeheartedly agree! The Federal Election Commission got us into this mess by allowing Bush to cheat his way into the White House, twice. Thank God we have a true maverick who's willing to--what? Oh. Never mind.

Actually, shouldn't the FEC be the ones going after McCain for breaking campaign finance laws? Maybe it wasn't a gaffe.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Sweet Jesus!!! Did I just hear Contessa Brewer say Obama's advisor Raines?? Can she not read or does she make a hobby of repeating Republican talking points?
  • benb · 1 year ago
Looks like Gov Palin is still building a road to the bridge that won't be built.

    From the LA Times today:

"Sarah Palin said yes, thanks, to a road to nowhere in Alaska"

  • FunMe · 1 year ago
seriously, with all the gaffes lately from McCrazyCain, has anyone ever thought that he is exhibiting the early signs of DEMENTIA?

    This is scary.

Obama should "admit to his own poor judgment in contributing to these problems"

McCain isn't channeling Herbert Hoover here - the man is on DEMENTIA crack!
  • brb915 · 1 year ago
IS he Effing Kidding????? He really is in dementia-----Someone who was around when the Keating 5 blew up needs to answer his crap. Dig up every photo/video of McCain and Phil "we are all Enron" Gramm and start flooding the airwaves with it

"What's up with McCain's left eye?"

He reminds me of the farmer character, in the first "Men in Black" movie, whose body was invaded by the bug alien.
  • paige · 1 year ago
My favorite part was when he talked about the man with two children who makes 35K a year as being "middle class". I live in Western PA and, even though we have a pretty low cost of living, if you were trying to support a family on 35K a year you would be poor, not middle class. Then he said he would give this guy $6,000 a year to buy health insurance. Yep, that's pretty much exactly what he said. Like if John McCain gets elected the government is just going to send everybody a check to buy health insurance. He didn't mention whether or not this guy has employer provided health care, because of course if he does he will receive a massive tax increase under a McCain administration that the $5,000 credit won't begin to cover. Later in the speech McCain said Obama wants to implement health care policies that would cost employers about $12,000 per employee. So if it costs an employer 12K to buy me health insurance how am I supposed to buy it for $2,500?

Keep hitting them where it hurts--on the economy.
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
McCain blinks a lot. I'm no psychiatrist but it would appear to be extreme nervousness and or lying. But then we already knew this didn't we.
  • smiling_dog · 1 year ago
He has a bit of facial droop on the left side (notice his left eyebrow is lower than the right). Maybe he has had that due to his melanoma surgery and I haven't noticed, but it looks almost like a partial Bell's Palsy.
  • flashcard · 1 year ago
Obama's press conference showed intelligence on the issue, and he clearly articulated what the Fed needs to do. McCain sounded like a cranky old man complaining about his soggy prunes. Attacks on Obama seemed to be the sole reason for holding the press conference.
