AMERICAblog: Josh Marshall laments the lack of independent groups -- and offers some free advice

Hopefully, the folks on the fence (if there really are any) will tune into CNN for their Docs on Both Candidates tonight and tomorrow. And if I know CNN they'll run them over and over and over.... I don't know how fair and balanced they are or if they hit hard enough... no one will till tonight, but an interview on the radio with John King (who did the Mc Cain Piece) sounded as though they tried to paint a pretty complete picture (they even asked McCain about his party life and how he met Cindy). They are both 90 minutes so there's lots of material there. Check em out and call em like you see em.

Obama screwed up big time by asking the 527's to shut down.

I guess the Obama people have since hinted that their policy on 527s had changed.

But they're going to have to be much stronger than that to get the money flowing again.
  • LynnDee · 1 year ago
There was a report a couple weeks ago that the Obama campaign was saying they would "look the other way" with respect to 527s. Anybody hear what happened with that? Too late?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, I just heard a couple hints about it.

I don't know if there's time to get them started this late.

Anyway who's planning to start a 527, should let the blogs know.

We have money and want to spend it tearing McCain a new one.
  • jimfromthefoothills · 1 year ago
keep it up John, if you are convinced again to start a 527 let me know I will contribute. If you don't it will be becuase BO is doomed.
  • jimfromthefoothills · 1 year ago
by the way, BO's new add sucks.

This is the John Kerry Campaign all over again.

Ugh--Inside Edition just did a teaser for tonight's show about Barack Obama's half brother "found living in a shack". Limpballs was hyperventillating today about Obama's father possibly having 4 wives. Just how do we go up against that without taking the gloves off. I'm sold..

    Cindy lied about Mother Teresa.

    http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2008/08/...

She also has a step sister who she stole the family business from.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
And didn't Mr. Magoo repeat the lie to the good pastor Saturday night?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    That's right.

He also lied with that "cross in the dirt" story he stole from Gulag Archipelago.

I'm with Josh on this. It is obvious that the Obama campaign really doesn't want our help. That doesn't mean that we can't insert ourselves into this though. I'm going to continue giving to MoveOn and other groups I agree with. Hopefully the Obama camp will quit marginalizing folks like me. I sincerely want to help him win.
  • LLDEM · 1 year ago
Scott, I think the Obama camp DOES want our help. But he's promised a respectable campaign no matter what and he's going to stick by that. He can't be seen asking 3rd parties to do the dirty work that needs being done because he'll be branded a hypocrite by the Repugs. So I think we need to get in there and mix it up on his behalf knowing that he does (silently) appreciate that we have his back.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
I hope you're right LLDEM. Just to expand on what I meant by feeling marginalized, it is disheartening to continue hearing Barack disparaging my marriage and my personal life. It's bullshit and it needs to stop. There is no reason for him to continue this attack on whether my marriage is legit in his mind. Stop it already. Seriously. There is no reason he should be saying the shit he is. He does not see me as an equal, and I'm tired of him saying so.

That is but one example but hopefully you get my drift. The Obama campaign is losing sight of those that believe in him. He needs to turn this around now.
  • LLDEM · 1 year ago
Scott, I know what you mean and when Prop 8 fails (and it will) I think the dominoes will begin to fall all across the country.

Neither party has been great friends of ours till they need our vote. Most of our advances have occurred because we made them happen. But Obama has never held the same view as me on that front and thats ok. He's never denigrated me, he just doesn't agree and I can accept that. I'd rather he be up front about that then lie to me and then stab me in the back.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
They'd killed the 3rd party groups.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
i guess it's up to us.
why don't WE just do it.
we already are...Jed and youtube and the blogs and Rachel on msnbc...
    don't give up.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Yeah, what the hell.

Just attack the creepy old man and have a good time.

If it works, great. If not, we'll drive him from office.

You quote: "But there's no way you're going to change people's minds about McCain, warrior, tough guy, maverick, going to protect your family no matter what."

    Really.

How about this: he can't, or won't protect his own family.

In 2000 in South Carolina, the Bush campaign attacked his wife and his adopted daughter. Sure, they attacked his military service (which you all think can't be done), questioning his sanity.

So what does McCain do? He does the maverick number through much of Bush's first term, then (because of his, uh, ambition) caves completely, giving into Bush on tax cuts and torture.

And eats cake with Bush and embraces him in what has to be the most submissive pose ever struck in American politics. Bush -- the guy who had slimed McCain's own wife and daughter.

Yeah, real tough guy. He can't even protect his own family.

There is something to be said for Citizen Participation. Just write it to your newspaper, post it on a general chat board. I always thought I was one of the most politically aware people it was possible to be, but I didn't know until that Times article that John McCain was pushing for the invasion of Iraq BEFORE Bush and Cheney! Six months before, right after 9/11, in fact.

That's telling, that's something that the voters ought to know! MORE reckless than Bush and Cheney! That's important, spread the word.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
here's a pretty damn good obama ad...via Jed

    spread it around!

    Marshall overstates the issue!
Stupid plus stupid leaves you still stupid.
As John shows often McCain needs his handlers to function!
McCain's mindless narratives will not be saved by repetition.
Rove's so-called success lead the Republicans to their current state.
Obama and Co. have not been asleep.
When ready they will do what is needed. Stop living in the past!
Oh, yes! Narratives from the past!!
