AMERICAblog: Josh Marshall on Palin's threat to declare war on Russia

  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I want Rob Caldwell, the Maine reporter, to interview Palin. Maybe he could get some great answers from her.
  • DastiusKrazitauc · 1 year ago
Yeah, I felt that Rob Caldwell had a "star is born" moment with that McCain interview.

Palin: As Commander-in-Chief I know how great a responsibility it is to commit the American people to go to war for Armania. It is a terrible burden to place on our folks, and I know this as a mother of a soldier who is in Eye-rack. But the Russians cannot be allowed to invade Armania, because that is the center of high fashion. America and the free world loves Armania and we will not stand for Russia, which is right up there next to my home state of Alaska, to be a member of the Axle of Evil.

'Axle of Evil'... wasn't that a move in that Blades of Glory movie?
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
you forgot to mention something about how most people don't know where 'Armania' is... due to a lack of maps.

    :-)

I have to agree with John. We're screwed! Too many people in this country are far too stupid, just don't care, believe only what they want to and will gladly hand the presidency to another idiot without so much as a second thought, let alone a first REAL thought.

Mrs. Hockey Mom seems to be getting blood-thirsty during her off-season. And she must miss her old girlfriends at the PTA meetings. Plus, she may be having her period this week.

    Now THAT'S SEXIST, John McComplain!

    nice :-)

    TOTALLY schooled.

That was a heavily edited interview. Parts of it were so sloppy and obvious that it makes me wonder if some of the cuts were done at the last minute.

Still she really stumbled through it. Especially the second part when answering questions about preemptive military action.
  • JMOHR · 1 year ago
There was nothing wrong with her response. Indeed, should such a nation be in NATO, an attack on it would be an attack on the other nations. We would have been pretty well mandated to go to war.

No, Palin should have been asked what the chances would be of nuclear conflict under such circumstances. How could she prevent such a conflict from going nuclear? Does she feel that Georgia should be granted NATO membership under these circumstances?
  • samiinh · 1 year ago
Yes, you could tell it was highly and sloppily edited. Also, her answers, I believe, show she had the questions in advance, as she answered some just like McCain had in his interview yesterday. National Security=Palin and Energy.
  • James76 · 1 year ago
I wonder if the campaign realized she veered into dangerous territory in some of her answers and demanded that they be cut just before airtime. It might explain why the cuts were so abrupt.
  • TDeg · 1 year ago
This may all just be a misunderstanding. Palin may just think everyone is talking about the state Georgia rather than the country.

The good news is Alaska will be the first to go. Today I have managed to work the lipstick comment in on numerous conversations.

If you are asked "hows it going" reply "I am just trying to put lipstick on a pig"
My dream is to corner a group of rich, republican women and work it into the conversation!
  • Kansaskitty · 1 year ago
Whoa! I don't want this woman (or McSame for that matter) anywhere near the oval office and those nuclear codes. Eeks.

That is absolutely the correct answer. You would not se -- never. You would not say -- absolutely.

As far as foreign policy experience, please cite to me Obama's.

Remember this criticism from Biden, highlighted by Jake Tapper?

"BIDEN CAMPAIGN CONGRATULATES SEN. OBAMA FOR JOHNNY-COME-LATELY POSITION," it read. Noting that at the March 2007 hearing, "Sen. Obama asked one question that was unrelated to Taliban or Afghanistan."

    Thanks, Joe!

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/07...

Politico had more of the story on Biden's "Before he was nominated" criticism:

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0807/Bid...

Sen. Biden has been talking about this for over 6 months. Dating back to January 5th, Sen. Biden said America Should Surge Troops in Afghanistan. He told the Washington Post, "If we're surging troops anywhere, it should be in Afghanistan," Biden said. Adding troops there would give the United States "the moral high ground" in its quest for more forces from NATO allies. [Washington Post, 1/5/07]

“We find it a little disingenuous that Sen. Obama is hailing this as a new bold initiative when he has neglected to join his colleagues in the Senate when the opportunities have been there to redirect our forces into Afghanistan” said Biden for President Campaign Manager Luis Navarro. “It’s good to see Sen. Obama has finally arrived at the right position, but this can hardly be considered bold leadership.”

Again, her answer is what one says as part of gamesmanship.

Josh Marshall, quite frankly, has lost his marbles.

On Bill Maher's show last week, Miz Palin was refered to as a "Jesus Freak" and one of the panelists, former Lt. Governor Steele of Massachusetts, adamantly denied she was one. Well, after looking the phrase up, she's defnitely one. Claiming that going to war is "God's Task" is definitely proof of that, Mr. Steele. Yes, this "God" thing disturbs me greatly -- 'the Iraq War was a task from God'! If (a mighty big "if") Miz Palin was, in truth, a Christian, she would know that God doesn't tell people what he's up to. So at most she's guessing; but she very much leaves the impression that she, like Dubya, speaks to God and He talks back to them. How precious that she has this cosmic intelligence and information. Can you say "not humble"? The meek shall inherit the Earth and she's obviously going to hell.
