AMERICAblog: Just ignore any so-called "conventional wisdom" when it comes to Obama and the Georgia Senate race

  • TimF · 1 year ago
Let's remember that Obama has something more valuable than a joint stump-speech - A Text Message list. BO may not make any public appearances, but I'll bet that everyone in GA on his cell phone list will get a a couple of texts between now and 12/2.

In a run-off election something like this could be huge.

    Perfect.
Thanks for the perspective. Too much input ( I'm insatiable) and I sometimes lose my concentration.
You guys never fail to pull me back.

If Cillizza had a 3 sided mouth he would do a simulcast. Dressing up RNC talking points as "advice" while pretending to be a neutral observer is just one more lame example of the pretend journalism that WaPo does so well.

I am a Georgia voter and a democrat... and after watching all of the Senate -- Dems and Reps alike -- stand and give Ted Stevens a standing ovation and after watching the Dems welcomed Lieberman back into the fold with open arms... I really wonder what the point is in my voting in the run-off. Why should I waste my time? Democrat... Republican... it makes no difference. The will of the people and the rule of law don't matter a lick to anyone in any party. They all disgust me now.

I was applauding his exit from the Senate after his speech- I will also stand up and applaud the day Bushie leaves office too! Then he will get my double handed one finger salute!

Funny how when the Democrats do anything it's partisanship driving it, but when the Republicans do the same thing it's being done for the good of the country. We really need to change the rhetoric on this before the really big battles come up, like the appointment of judges.

With Franken winning, and a tens of thousands crowd in Georgia listening to a plea from President Elect Obama. A plea for the obvious 60 fillibuster proof majority.
The GOP can spin, accuse, point, screech and grasp and twist and turn like deamons being sent back to hell. The GOP's claim that if Obama goes to Georgia is a lack bipartisanship will fall on deaf ears, amists all the cheers of his presence there.

Doing something to increase the chances that your legislative agenda will pass is not "partisanship." It's just good sense.

I'm not familiar with all of the issues about who should/shouldn't campaign for Miller - but I doubt power is one of them.

Even though Edward Luttwak has recently subliminated his genius strategic insights and top level thinking to petty local partisanship, his writings on this issue are likely quite familiar to the Obama crowd.

Power is the one commodity that grows as you use it. It also has the shortest shelf-life of any item.

Remember all of the "keeping our powder dry" arguments during FISA and the Military Commission Act and...?

Remember GHWB (Bush 41) and his not wanting to push too hard after Gulf War I - a time when we could have arguably had progress on global issues like disease control, sanitation, water sharing/use issues (not sexy, but really help all communities everywhere on so many more "topline" issues)?

Look at the history of empires - they did better because they consistently amassed, used, shared and wielded power. Hoarding it doesn't work.
  • anarchy · 1 year ago
all empires have historically failed once their
military expansion became too widespread to
properly supply and support. we've got our
    military all over the world.

ya say that it can't happen here? THINK AGAIN.

I'm ready to give the President-elect the keys
    with NO reservations.

we've had enough thuggery for the past eight
years that there's nothing that could happen
which could be worse than the Bush Crime
    Family.

I vetted Mr Obama for myself when he was
a nobody (politically speaking) running for
his first time out, for the seat he ended up
losing to Bobby Rush here in IL.

everybody I know told me "this guy, he's
the real deal" and not knowing the man
personally, I had to go with that.

I'm not at-all sorry now that I did so, BTW.

shit, after eight years of the shrub..
even Caribou Barbie would be a step
    up!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Obama needs to get his butt down here NOW. What would it hurt to support a fellow Democrat? He's got nothing to lose by giving Jim Martin his support. Maybe the black folks that voted for the first time because Obama is black just might vote again. We are going to need them to pull this off. It's worth a shot.
  • Tyke · 1 year ago
Yeah - cause there's absolutely nothing of any real seriousness going on elsewhere and Obama has NOTHING to do right now.

Sheesh - I cannot even imagine how hard Obama is working or how many hours every day to get his administrative team pulled together and pulling together, and to have a plan ready to execute on MANY fronts right out of the gate.

... or maybe he should just can it all and respond to anonymous petulant blog posters. Yeah - that would be better.
  • Scratching my head · 1 year ago
obviously you don't live in Georgia. we are talking about a visit (couple hours). There's a lot at stake here for HIS senate.
  • MNPundit · 1 year ago
We won't have the votes anyway. Neslon, Pryor, Landrieu, LIEberman, etc.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
The corporate media is doing a makeover of Obama: really, he's deep down a centrist Republican, rightly so.
  • haydesigner · 1 year ago
John, it is simpler (and stupider) than that...
What Cillizza is implying is that, in the spirit of bipartisanship, Obama should not only *not* help out a fellow Democrat, but he should HELP a Republican get elected?!? That apparently is Cillizza's definition of bipartisanship.

Bipartisanship means working WITH elected members of another party.
    NOT helping them get elected.
    (Cillizza is a moron)
  • NMRon · 1 year ago
Cilizza's a republitard fluffer. I hit the mute button when ever he appears.
  • Nick · 1 year ago
I love ya but you're wrong on this one - Jim Martin WILL lose - period. I'm a huge Obama supporter - did the texas two step for him in the primaries but recently moved to GA. This state is so in the hole for Republicans; Martin really has no chance. You should talk to some of the quacks I've talked to and you'll understand just how much of a chance he has. The only reason we got to the upper 40s for Martin was the black vote coming out and voting solid democrat. This is not going to be pretty...
  • GrMtGirl3 · 1 year ago
If it is the black vote that got Martin to the 40 percent vote range it is definitely a smart move for Obama to openly show support by making a trip there. Remember, we still need that magic number in our senate and without refreshing the need many will not bother to vote on Dec.2.
