AMERICAblog: Karzai signs law that legalizes rape

  • Chris From Maine · 8 months ago
It is amazing that Obama is going to send MORE troops to that country, and there is absolutely no end in sight for the forgotten war. When Obama runs for re-election, it will be Year 11 of the Afghanistan war. 11 goddamn years, for nothing.

We should pull all the troops out of Afghanistan today. Period.

Absolutely. Wonder if we, as a country will ever have enough of this shit, and start massive protests in the streets of AMERICA?

Karzai is a lazy pig who does nothing without political considerations. I'm not surprised at this.

The flip side of this kind of subjugation of women can be found in western countries, though, predominantly the US, where women have been conned into believing that objectifying themselves sexually for men is "empowering" without understanding that it's simply more sexual slavery (although dressed up, or naked, and with plenty of silicone, etc.) without the real benefits of being truly liberated and on their own to define themselves without the interference of male-dominated culture.

How has the availability, quality, street price of heroin changed over the years as the opium crop yields have exploded?

Has the CIA resumed its drug dealing as it did w heroin from the Golden Triangle in the 60's & coke/crack from South America in the 80-90's?

Well isn't that special. We ALSO support a government in Iraq that executes GAYS, and we are determined to destroy UNIONS in the U.S. ( continuation of the Reagan legacy). Yes, this is change we can all believe in.

I woke up to both these stories today, women in Afghanistan and gays in Iraq. President Obama had better watch with whom he makes friends. How typical of American policy the women's story is, though. "We" get people to stick out their necks as Mr. and Mrs. Bush and Mr. and Mrs. Leno did with women in Afghanistan, and then "we" abandon them to death, torture, and injustice and go on "our" smiling way.

What a disappointment this leader has become. Perhaps the NATO troops should not be so vigilante with his security.

Disappointment? This guy was never worth the cheap abba he is always wearing (like a circus clown). He's UNOCAL refugee and a louse. Now look what he's down. The US put this cretin in charge of Afghanistan. Let the US remove his sorry ass.

This is beyond belief and is evidence that we have NO business in the social hell-hole called afghanistan.

and how much aid do we contribute? One of the aspects of change I'd like to see is the coupling of aid to social progress; set a floor of necessity and then go up from there as the govt shows they want to make progress. If it's an issue like this- I mean, I'm all for cultures having their own value systems and all, but condoning marital rape and controlling women's activities? Pretty much universal agreement.
How sexually insecure do you have to be to agree with this law?
    Sheesh.

I love how often American leaders leaders feel the need to keep saying that Islam is largely a religion of peace and love, it's just only a small minority of extremists who give the religion a bad name.

Look all around the Middle East and other places in the world with large numbers of people who believe strongly in religion. Way to often women, gays, and non-believers of Islam are treated like absolute garbage. Most of the worlds terrorists come from followers of Islam.

Beyond wanting to protect America from the real nutcase followers of this religion, i just wish the US would get out of that area of the world and if their people want to live under the nonsense laws that come largely from the beliefs of Islam, so be it.

It does bug me though when Obama and others on the left seem to try and down play all the evil that comes from the beliefs flowing from Islam around the world. Granted, other religions also ted to treat folks like women and gays in ways i don't care for, but nowhere near as poorly as countries with largely believers of Islam which has been corrupted by radicals all over the place who are dangerous and hold views that i find repulsive on many fronts.

As Keith Olbermann mentioned this evening, this is how the administration that Bush "installed" in Afghanistan (Keith's words) plays politics and caves-in to religious extremists in his country (the same way that the Republicans caved-in to the religious-right here in our country).
Worse, however, than this particular story that got so much attention in the MSM, are the alleged gay people who are about to lose their lives, yes, be executed in these countries due to the same laws based on religious doctrine.
