I don't even know who she is?
    Is she in politics?
Is she the most qualified for the job?
Although I have the utmost respect for Sen Kennedy, this is not a backwater mayor's job we're talking about here, this is the United States Senate and these are important times, we need a qualified law maker to take his place.
  • michaelt · 1 year ago
I've never understood this rationale. How can a spouse just jump into a job that's so obviously complex? Dem or Rep it doesn't matter, I just don't get it.

but God Bless the Tedster, he's a good man.

  • Bison · 1 year ago

  • sittenpretty · 1 year ago

Huh? No offence, but is his wife qualified to be a Senator? That's an odd last request that would serve the Kennedy's but not so sure the people of Mass.

  • ortcutt · 1 year ago
That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Is Vicki Kennedy the most qualified candidate for the position? No. This nepotism has to stop.
  • MarxMarvelous · 1 year ago
Screw nepotism. What a great way to tarnish anything good he ever did.
  • michaelt · 1 year ago
i guess if elizabeth dole can do it, anyone can.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
Wow! My partner and I have been together as long as Kennedy and his wife. Next month we're getting married so I guess we start all over again.

From a realistic point of view, you can't maintain a dynasty unless you keep those powerful appointments in the family. That's how empires and dynasties work. Given that the Kennedy Clan casts such a very wide net, it should be a point of honor that he is naming his wife as his successor rather than one of his twice-removed in-laws . . . the governor of Calif, for example.

Kennedy could be model for Clinton

If Kennedy, who was released from Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday, is unable to continue his leadership role in the Senate, it would open up the one job other than commander in chief that she might consider: Democratic lion of the Senate.

Um, except that Hillary isn't a liberal, and doesn't have either the liberal cred. or the political/personal rapport with people that Kennedy has.
  • johnosahon · 1 year ago
no offence to Kennedy, BUT like i told the clintons and bushes , this is not a DYNASTY.

one family CANNOT BE RULING ALL THE DAMN TIME, LET SOME PEOPLE IN.

    DAMN.

you would think this is England, when the royal family rules non-stop.

I'm all for nepotism. Wish there was more of it. I wish John Kerry would hand his seat over to Teresa. And we'd probably all be better off if most Senators gave their seats in the Senate to their wives...

    No more marital dynasties please!
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
And Bill Clinton wants his wife to become VP. Is Hollywood planning a new run of the old TV show, Dynasty. Joan Collins got nothing on Hillary Clinton. LOL

No, no, no, No, No. Wrong and probably not true. Teddy knows that this is wrong. But then, he was too inexperienced when he took the seat and there was an enormous outcry at the time that he was the dumbest Kennedy and nothing but a dilettante. He won anyway because the MA voters were besotted with the Kennedys. Teddy worked for years to learn the job. Years! And he never proved to most people that he had the true stuff until he made the eulogy for Bobby in 1968 at St. Patrick's in New York. There's understandably a lot of emotion here but this is not a family seat. There is no such thing in America and Teddy knows that.
Barney Frank deserves this seat and has been in line for decades. He'll continue Teddy's work and knows how things work in the congress better than anyone except that evil bastard Cheney.
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
I agree, warsaw. Barney is about as close as we may come to having someone continue the Liberal Lion's work. Mike Capuano might do ok as well, he is my local Rep.

Kennedy may want his wife to fill his Senate seat, should he vacate it many years from now [fingers crossed], but she's not running for it yet. His seat isn't vacant. And the Massachusetts governor isn't calling a special election.

I want a lot of things too...doesn't mean they will happen. So should Ted Kennedy be chastised for wanting things too? I mean, realistically, wanting something and getting it are two different things. And I'm sure Kennedy would be the first to say this is a democracy and Senators should be voted into office.

Meanwhile, CNN screws up and attributes Kennedy's name to an alleged sexual offender on its video website.

Just saw this about 5 minutes ago.

I have never been a fan of a relative of a politician taking over when they are unable to do their job. This is a democracy not a feudal system. Sorry Teddy, you don't get to handpick the next senator to keep it in the family, no matter what you and your faux-nobles (this includes the Bushies and Clintons, btw) would like to believe.

    freaking senators-for-life.
