AMERICAblog: Krugman: Treason against the planet

  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 5 months ago
We’re facing a clear and present danger to our way of life, perhaps even to civilization itself. And 100% of the blame for this rests on the shoulders of George Bush, Rush Limbaugh, and Rupert Murdoch. They destroyed our planet.

Legalize industrial hemp! Hemp is the best plant at reducing greenhouse gas.
  • DonQ · 5 months ago
Hmmm... that poses a moral quandary as to what to do about the hemp variety that commonly goes up as smoke... ;-)
  • nicho · 5 months ago
Well, first we must check with the Republicans to see what they'll let us do. We wouldn't want to make them angry.

What the environment does not need is another "fierce advocate" who is "working towards" a solution while demanding "patience" because he has "a lot on his plate"; someone who is bogged down in "meetings" and calling for a "cocktail party" to reassure us.

(My apologies to your previous poster, but this seems to be the problem regardless of the issue.)
  • Butch1 · 5 months ago
That should be "working towards, working towards" a solution. So far, he is all talk. I'm still waiting for him to get out of his chair and "walk the walk."

Unfortunately, so far with Obama, saying he is going to do something in his mind, means he has already done it.
  • tbhull · 5 months ago
So now the oracle economist is also a climatologist.
  • nicho · 5 months ago
Well, as someone who's been right on most everything up until now, he gets my attention. He even tried to tell us Obama was just conning us. We should have listened.
  • Butch1 · 5 months ago
I trust his opinion, he already has been recognized with a Nobel prize in economy, who knows, give him a moment and he may win one for global climate science.
  • Indigo · 5 months ago
I think we already know that nothing's going to be done about that. The solution isn't out there in a profitable way. We'll have to wrap our cities in domes instead, it'll be good for the construction business. Can we start building the bubble enclosures over our habitats now or do we have to wait until it gets much worse?

    Franken wins!
  • nicho · 5 months ago
Al Franken declared winner in MN. I hope they give him salary and seniority back to the beginning of this session of Congress. They should let the GOP steal that from him with a series of frivolous lawsuits.

"How can anyone justify failing to act?"

I have been asking myself that since the early 90's
  • ndtovent · 5 months ago
According to Kos' legal expert, coleman still has a 10 window to appeal to a federal court if he wishes. The way he's been fighting this up to now, I'm not getting my hopes up till Franken is actually sworn in.
  • cowboyneok · 5 months ago
My two illustrious Senators don't need justification! Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn, from Oklahoma, are both hoping to bring about Armageddon one way or ANOTHER!
  • Aaron · 5 months ago
While I am normally a big krugman fan, his "treason" comment I believe is over the top here.
    OTOH- clearly Republicans hate America
  • JohnNation · 5 months ago
Well don't expect the GOP or their base to care even a whit.
After all... Jeebuz is going to come back and fix everything way before that happens anyway.

Hateful Oklahoma Representative ignites another controversy over blaming gays for the economic crisis. She is a reminder some political leaders in our nation haven't moved much further than Nazi Germany:

    http://www.news9.com/global/story.asp?s=10597685

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma lawmaker is once again drawing criticism from gay and lesbian groups from across the nation.

State Representative Sally Kern, and a host of other lawmakers, civic and religious leaders, will gather at the State Capitol next month to sign the "Oklahoma Citizen's Proclamation for Morality."

The proclamation urges Oklahoma residents to acknowledge the need for a national awakening of righteousness, but critics say Rep. Kern is again mixing politics and religion.

Read the "Oklahoma Citizen's Proclamation for Morality"

"Instead of dealing with issues that she ought to be dealing with, it seems she's advocating her religious views once again which is not the proper purview of an elected official," said Rev. Scott Jones, an openly gay pastor in Oklahoma City.
  • Butch1 · 5 months ago
Why is this religious bigoted moron still a representative? Can there be that many toothless mouth-breathers around to vote her in? ( I guess I answered my own rhetoric. )
  • cowboyneok · 5 months ago
Dunno, but I have several calls in to find out about where the protest is going to be. Because I WILL BE THERE!
  • Butch1 · 5 months ago
Good for you!!! She needs to see the forces against her little Crusade against the people. I am so tired of these religious asshats, who's only purpose of being voted into office is to promote religious doctrine. This woman needs to be out of office. I wonder if she is only going to work on religious issues, that she can't be removed from office?

The republican answer: "Drill baby, drill!!"
  • dula · 5 months ago
The Democrats answer: creating an environmental bill that will only curb 4% greenhouse gasses in the next 10 years when all the experts say 40% is needed.
  • Butch1 · 5 months ago
Yes, they both are ineffective losers who do not take this seriously or they have been bought out and are hopelessly too deep supporting the lobbists. Time to sweep house or continue riding the democrats and making them know this is unexceptable.
  • flygirl · 5 months ago
We've been setting record high temperatures of late here in Central Texas. During the winter and our colder than average timeframe, my republican counterparts were yammerin' the talking points "Ha! Where's that global warming now?!"

They ain't sayin' a word here the past few weeks...
  • dula · 5 months ago
I don't see any signs our world leaders or the masses are taking this seriously. It's doubtful we'll rise to the occasion. Thank God I'll be dead. Who wants to be around for that? Word is, even Cher has stopped looking for the Fountain Of Youth.

What a shallow attack piece from Krugman. He may be right about some economic issues, but in this editorial he displays either ignorance or intentional misdirection.

Many of the no votes against the House bill are because of the exemptions added to the bill for primary polluters such as the U.S. miltary, the coal industry, and others. This is just another example of making laws that will pass with minimal fuss from the lobbyists who control Congress, rather than making laws that will help achieve the publicized intent, that is, producing a significant reduction in the amount of CO2 produced each year.

Also, nowhere in his opinion piece is there any mention of another source of no votes, the "cap and trade" aspects of the legislation. Cap and trade will allow the usual financial criminals to get rich with an Enron style trading system of "carbon credits" that allow polluters to purchase credits from others, diverting money to their bottomless pockets, money that could have been used for alternative energy projects that do not produce CO2 such as solar and wind on a massive scale.

Massive financial benefits to the polluters and Wall Street is not the same as reducing CO2, so this legislatoin is a lie.

How can anyone justify failing to act?

Greed is good. Greed is God. Fall down and worship greed.

The M.I.T. research failed to correctly apply scientific principles---a total sham!!
  • greghalv · 4 months ago
Krugman will say anything, facts be damned, in support of leftist power.
