AMERICAblog: LA Times: Mishaps mark John McCain's record as naval aviator

  • Rab · 1 year ago
Erratic in the air, erratic on the ground. I'm John McCain and I'm unfit to be anything.

The Rolling Stone article is more complete and they aren't trying to downplay McCain's "mishaps"... they also go into the WHY's of how McCain FAILED UP.

You would think a guy who had a full Admiral for a father and a full Admiral for a Grandfather, would have done better than 5th from the bottom of his class at Annapolis. Either he never had the smarts to start with, or he was so pampered he didn't care. Either way you look at it, he doesn't deserve consideration of a vote.
But since the article came up, who is going to ask him to release his fitness records to see what his superiors thought of his decision ability?

I figure he probably had the smarts but was so full of himself, he thought the world owed him something, oh wait.

I doubt if those things will say anything incriminating. If they are like Air Force reports, they are all highly inflated. One of the worst ones I ever got said "is a valued member of the squadron". To stop a promotion they kill you with feint praise.

You are probably right, but it would be nice to pressure him over his POW records which he got sealed in the late 80's. He has a complicated record, it would be nice to see him squirm over it.

Actually I think his POW officer fitness reports are the strongest part of his career, and his life for that matter. The Vietnamese tried to get him to accept early release, and he wouldn't go for it. The POW leadership had decried the sick and wounded go home first, followed by order of shoot-down. Some guys couldn't resist the temptation when offered and went home when offered the chance. McCain is considered a "stand up guy" among the POW community. Everyone knows he refused when offered the chance.

As one long term POW put it when offered the chance, "They had taken everything away from me but my good name. I wasn't about to offer them that." McCain stayed true to the group.

I think its the one part of his life you can't criticize.

Rabid Pitbull Palin, asked Joe Biden during the debates, in her dramatic fashion, why he keeps looking backwards. So now the big question Obama should ask McCain tomorrow is, why she asked that question, when all they, the McCain camp, have done the past few days, is look BACK to forty years, and bring Ayers up again. Double standards, Old Mac?

The Reverse Ace. Don't let him crash us, too.

Crashed a bank, or crashed *during* a bank? I get so confused......

McCain flew jets like Frank Burns operated in the movie-M*A*S*H--"It's Gahd's will or someone else's fault". Why not be a responsible officer and own up to your fuck-up's John? (McCain, not Aravosis....JohnA is da'MAN)
  • lark83 · 1 year ago
It sounds like the first 2 crashes were what we call "pilot error". 2 of those things might get you before a flying board in today's military. Maybe even one. Flying too low and hitting wires is being stupid. That alone could get your wings taken away.

The third crash sounds like he was partly responsible/at fault because he failed to go to battery power. He wasn't exactly an "ace" pilot there when he was confronted with a serious problem. The last 2 were due to circumstances beyond his control, especially the Forestal incident.

    I wouldn't call it a stellular career.
