Perhaps, so though, they didn't stump for McCain and try and run down the Democratic Party. That's the big difference.

I'd like for the good Senators to explain to that POS Traitor that those of us in RED STATE AMERICA who fought very hard this election cycle had Democratic people who USED HIM as an EXAMPLE of why they would not vote for Obama. I'm sure we would have come a LOT closer to a Democratic magic 60 number without his traitorous activity. It can NOT be tolerated, and he MUST be made an example of how putting one's political ambitions above party WILL have consequences.
Democratic Connecticut voters also need to be taught a hard lesson. Had they NOT supported Lieberman and gone with the REAL Democrat then this "disaster" for their state would not have happened. Democrats who supported Lieberman played RIGHT into the Karl Rove's hands.

There is no forgiveness. When it was clear that McCain was losing, Liebermann redoubled his efforts, getting even more vial, nasty and hateful about Obama, calling him a liar, traitor, terrorist and Muslim. But Reid is doing this right. let Lieberman hang and twist in the wind. Wait until the new Congress convenes and make him crawl and beg and beg, pour out his heart, cry and show what a disgusting, craven loser he is. Yes, I approve a subcommittee chairmanship for him, the chairmanship of janitorial services for scrubbing toilets.
aquarius2

I don't think the issue is Joe running non stop investigations, what I think is the man cannot be trusted. Look at his behavior, supposedly he voted with the Dems on many issues BUT he trashed not only the Democratic candidate but also those down ticket.
Are the Democrats in Congress so weak in the skills of persuasion they cannot find 3 or 4 votes on important issues? It says a lot about the leadership of the Dems to allow Lieberman to continue to caucus with them because they "might" need his vote. There should be no percs, no Chairman positions for this man.
They need to cut him loose now, start fresh with someone who really supports the Democratic policy ideals.

" Say it ain't so, Traitor Joe." It wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Just a little side note of curious politics. Missouri Rep Roy Blount resigned his position as majority whip in the SAME year as his son, Matt Blount incumbent Missouri governor, declined to run for another term.
What is going on with the Blounts? Do they know something is coming down the pike? People of Missouri, don't you find this curious?
cowboyneok

I live right next to Missourri. The Blunt family are Karl Rove politicians of the first order. In other words they seek ways to divide America to enrich themselves and gain power. The Blunts are hateful pigs.
aquarius2

Oh, I so agree with you that is why I find it curious that both of them are stepping away from the power they currently hold. Just a gut instinct but I think this is not the last we are going to hear about them and it's not going to pretty.
cowboyneok

Missourri has a really interesting political dynasty battle going on between two families. The Blunts and the Carnahans. The Blunts represent everything evil about Republicans, and they are divisive, hateful, Rovian pigs. The Carnahans? They are the anti-Blunts. The Carnahans are wonderful people who are committed to equality for all citizens, and just GREAT people who represent the best in government. Its quite the drama to watch and see whether Missourri voters will choose "the light" (Carnahans) over the darkness (Blunts) every election.

Republican versus Democratic leadership.
Remember when the Bu$hco. Administration stole the election and their first meetings over the economy? Who was it with? Why it was with OIL AND GAS CEO's, Enron Execs and others salivating to send America on its way to enrich them further without any thought whatsoever of the consequences.
Look at Obama's meeting and tell me THINGS HAVEN'T ALREADY CHANGED! He is meeting with a diverse group of people who have BIG BRAINS and are looking out for America's best interest. G-d, imagine how much better off we would have been had we been able to have these meetings EIGHT YEARS ago:

I was trying to think tactically, to use the inevitable FOX News campaign of "Look how mean and un-bipartisan the Democrats are being to saintly Joe Lieberman" campaign against them. How about this?
Reid and the party leaders should sit with Lieberman and present the following demand: When Obama makes his major social policy pushes, Lieberman must very loudly and publicly take the position that Obama is not going far enough. On health care, Joe should say we need to move even more toward single payer, need to cover more people, etc. Then we'll put FOX in the position of having to attack their favorite Democrat and reveal the manifest hypocrisy, or stifle criticism of the progressive position making it easier to pass.
Of course if Holy Joe doesn't agree to play this role for the party, then he can go get stuffed.

Obama has already given Lieberman the "Johnson Treatment." But it didn't sink in. The next time Obama gives him the Johnson Treatment, he shouldn't stop until Lieberman is running away in tears. Lyndon surely would do it, and so should Obama. Lieberman needs to fear for his life every time Obama comes near him. And Lieberman should be so scared that he hides in a corner crying for his mother whenever Obama's name is even mentioned. He should be tormented to the point where suicide is a realistic option. Fuck him, and fuck him hard.

RevDrBillyBob, you're right, and for that very reason I would be very happy to see the last of Reid (the spineless) and Pelosi (Madam Jellyfish) right along with Lieberman. Those two had a clear mandate in 2006 and they led a Democratic majority to whinge and wail and not do anything except go along with Bush. I hope Obama can build some backbone into these people.
As for Lieberman, I will have my own little parade to see that lying, whining quisling hung out to dry. You know, when the candidate for the opposition is known to prefer one of your party's wonks as his running mate, that should tell you that SOMETHING IS WRONG with the guy. And then Lieberman just stacked more and more on top of it. Did he honestly think people wouldn't remember? It's time for him to pay the piper, and I hope to high heaven that this time the people in Connecticut wise up and send him crying to his insurance buddies.

It's kind of undignified to beg to keep any Comittee seat. But HOMELAND SECURITY? I mean, doesn't that sound like the sort of title that demands you at least have METAPHORICAL BALLS? If you're reduced to begging for that job, you obviously don't deserve it.

it also suggests that while committee chairman you either did some things or knew about some things that you'd like to keep from coming out...
He needs to be stripped of all his committee assignments, run out of the caucus and be left to wander in the Republican wasteland until the folks of Connecticut can find a reason to either impeach or recall his ass...
What would be a beautiful finish to this self_absorbed, egotistical ass is that he is kicked out the Dem caucus, loses any position of power until 2010, loses his bid for 2010, and then if Obama can push through his new lobbyist proposal, Lieberman cannot come back as a lobbyist.
This would be a fitting end to Lieberman, hell he might even have to go to work at a real job.

Here is an interesting duo, Mitch McConnell and Joe Lieberman. Not surprising McConnell is reaching out to the whiny assed Lieberman to join the Republican caucus.

Lieberman (R-Likud) should have been tossed out on his ass when he ran against the Dem candidate for his Senate seat. The only reason to tolerate his toxic assholery the last two years -- the knife-edge-balanced Senate -- is now gone.
Joementum, it's time for your Burn Notice.
Methuselah
But if Lieberman is stripped of his chairmanship, he'll have no incentive to vote with the Dems -- as an "Independent" he will likely display the most egregious swing vote solicitation of both sides, and both sides will need to court him and pay him tributes in order to curry his favor and his vote. He will have most power of any senator, and without appeasement (until he's up for re-election), he is probably threatening Reid that he'll join the Republicans to block everything on the Obama agenda.
Thanks to all those voters in CT for re-electing Lie-berman even though he was clearly clearly positioning himself for personal gain, and already a turn-coat to his own party. Here's hoping they don't make the same mistake next time.
njprogressive

I don't think he has any incentive to vote with the dems anyway. Why place a "swing vote" in key places when you could put someone in there who will make some positive progressive changes.

why would you let a weasel blackmail you when you're the one with all the cards?
Joe is a virus and needs to be isolated and left to burn out on his own so he doesn't infect any one else.
Methuselah
But we don't have "all the cards". Not yet.
Cutting the weasel loose and turning him into a free agent gives him power to be the swing vote. He has zero incentive to vote the Dems without the loss of his chairmanship forcing him to play nice. The threat of demotion is so far the ONLY bargaining chip Reid has to keep the b*tard in line, as far as I know.
Trying to think long-term strategery here. Lie-berman isn't up for re-election until 2012. That's a loooong time and we have A LOT of work to do, and finding 3 or 4 moderate Republicans isn't as easy as it sounds, especially when they've already shown they'll stop at nothing to hold the process hostage. It seems foolish to give Lie-berman that sort of power.
Instead of letting Lie-berman hold the trump card and do the blackmailing, Reid holds the trump card (the threat of demotion) and can do some mighty fine blackmailing himself.
Without it, what power does Reid have over Lie-berman to force him to do anything? Seems like it gives the b*tard way too much power to become a free agent, and no recourse if he steps out of line.

Senate committee chairmen positions are for members of the majority party. Since there will be more Democrats in the Senate, those chairman jobs should go to party members who support the party. We don't have a party chairman job for McCain's other butt-buddy, Lindsay Graham, who is also not a Democrat, so why should Lieberman be any different?
Elections have consequences.

It is important that i not be held responsible for anything I said or did or my constant and repeated attempts to slander the Democratic party and make sure it lost elections. I must never face consequences, that is the unity we need."

As upsetting as Sen. Lieberman has been to watch over this last year we MUST remain focused on what would be the best thing for the LGBT community. Sen Lieberman has been a steady supporter of OUR issues...his state of Connecticut is about to start marriage equality this month. I know President Obama is sincere when he says he wants to put aside partisanship From now on...I'm looking out for me and my husband (yes, I can still say husband, as we were married in Canada, thank G-d), and can welcome back a supportive Sen. From now on...I'm looking out for me and my husband (yes, I can still say husband, as we were married in Canada, thank G-d), and can welcome back a supportive Sen. Lieberman.

We made our point with the war and we got President Obama elected....it's time to move on and do whats best for OUR community...I say let Lieberman stay.
