    this is ruin for McCain.

once again, Rove screws him over.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
Perhaps ROVE knows that the economy is going into the toilet. Much much worse than it is now. And Rove is looking long-term. Perhaps he'd like Obama to take the fall for the tanking economy, so the NeoCon capitalists can come in and say they are the saviors (to the mess they created).
  • Slim Cognito · 1 year ago
I agree with weasel. Rove is no fan of McCain. They're looking at 2012. They just threw McCain a bone. Even if McCain wins, even they don't think he'll make four years and, face it, they'd never run Palin no matter how sexist they call us. Whomever wins, its a setup for 2012.

And, poor little Cindy McCain is bitching today that the "View" women picked their bones apart the other day. Where is the tiny violin?

    i'll say it again.

nothing better defines john mccain as the same as george w. bush than his constant lying.

    enough.
  • reelactor · 1 year ago
Thanks John, Its way past time to end the McFilth campaign, and send the Bad Seed Vice President wannabee back to Wasilla. America deserves better than cheering for who lies the best to win the highest office in the land. You'd think the people who say they love Jesus would speak up, I guess they really aren't who they say they are. Oh sorry, that would be Sarah Palin.

I hope this makes a difference this time after watching this documentary:
    "Orwell Rolls In His Grave".
This is the best film on the media I have ever seen. I wish it would run on the msm, hahah.

Impressive! And there are even more lies. That whole "Barracuda" basketball nickname thing? That's a lie too.

    http://www.adn.com/sports/story/525556.html

Contrary to numerous reports, Palin didn't pick up the "Sarah Barracuda" nickname for her basketball prowess with the Warriors.

"To be honest, I'd never heard that name before," said Jackie Conn, Palin's backcourt mate who now lives in Anchorage. "I don't know if anyone actually called her that."
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
The pressure is on and McCain will come out and say maybe they went too far and all the little repugs will say, "What a swell guy he is!"

This is the man who many, not me, called him a hero. He is not a hero. He is a lying hypocrite.

There are many who will never ever, ever vote for Obama. They wouldn't vote for Christ himself if they believed he was black. This includes repugs and Democrats.

The media is finally coming to their senses, but not all. There are still Schieffer, Scarborough, Will, Stephanopolous, Gregory, and sadly Brokaw. Maybe I should include them in the group named above.
  • Jimbo62 · 1 year ago
Wow John, that was an excellent post. If you wrote this in a script, no one would believe it. What is next?
  • vwcat · 1 year ago
yes, but, will the average or working class, middle class voter listen to these criticisms or are they just going to ignore them and pass them by?
Will they stop and think about this or will they just say, Oh Well, That is just politics these days.
  • bronco214 · 1 year ago
Off topic- anyone watch Scalia on 60 minutes? His last line, after defending torture as not being punishment was "It's my opinion, and it's correct."
My stomach is just rolling after watching that fat, sanctimonious piece of shit spouting shit and getting shined up by the program. 60 Minutes has their lips so far up that they must taste small intestine.

Do low information voters even read newspapers? Will it get through to them if it isn't an ad on tv or if the cable talking heads don't say it?

What effect are the Wall Street bankruptcies - and the $5 gas prices due to Ike - going to have? Will people finally wake up and realize that McCain and Caribou Barbie are useless when it comes to the economy?

And the ONLY political comment, save an article about a group opposing gay marriage, in the San Diego Union Tribune, was by Navarette, saying that Obama had better watch out or Palin would steal all his Latino voters. They didn't even have any letters to the editor about the election. Maybe they're ashamed.

Didn't someone on TV recently say they would rather have someone who was: Wrong and strong, then right and weak. I can't remember the exact quote. I think Obama needs to change the game in a big way. He needs to come up with something that will get attention and show his vision. He can call it his Vision for America or Promise to America and come up with 5 to 10 things he would do to help this country. Make it simple and strong and watch McCain and his groups go nuts. Obama then would dominate the news cycle for days.

I can only speak for Boston...but the typical McCain voter does not read the Globe, he or she reads the Herald. When the Herald, and other such conservative, Republican leaning papers begin to criticize McCain for his lies, then the numbers will begin to change. As it stands, even with the rampant lying, McCain and Obama are virtually tied.

I am truly amazed at the media, and how vigilant they are this time. They have fact checked, and called McLiar and Appalling, liars. The lies are too numerous to keep track of. McLiar has lost all honor and integrity, and will now say anything to win. He has put ambition before the country, because he picked an empty pant suit like Palin to be a heart beat away from the Presidency. The results could be disastrous and toxic for this country. If only the media was this competent in 2000, we would be in a much better situation.

This is what puzzles me. I cannot believe that people are so dense, that they want to vote for these two dishonest people, knowing that it will not be good for the country, to continue the Bush/Cheney dishonesty.

Are we really a nation of idiots?

Well, years of underfunding education has produced such. Its really a downward spiral. Less education funding = more ignorant voters, who do not want to pay for education.

  • jenny4 · 1 year ago
I don't think so. I truly think, or at least hope, this whole Palin thing is wearing thin, the same old stuff day after day. Also, I think the polls are a bit off as well. I'm a middle-aged white woman in a conservative town (unfortunately) and no one has asked me or any of my friends what WE think. it truly hurts to see this country so divided.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
And I think the polls will not reflect this turn about for a couple of weeks.
  • therepguy · 1 year ago
McCain and company should be sicked with his lie infeated campain as is the rest of America... Senator where are the issues and where is your morals!
  • Patriot · 1 year ago
Sadly, so many people I know who are voting for McCain don't read newspapers, rarely watch the news, and wouldn't know how to find a blog if they were led by the nose. These are not stupid people either. Unbelievably uninformed, yes.

Nonetheless, the lies and disinformation perpetrated by McCain have far too many people convinced that what they say is true.

That this race is even close is frightening and very sickening.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
It may be close, but the National polls are inaccurate. Se scytherius' comment above.

  • ADLEED · 1 year ago
McCain & Co. lies have blanketed the country; this will reach most of those voters who need reasons not to vote for McCain/Palin. The race is not determined but these events will not enhance McCain's chances, it is much too early to rely on polls for anything.
  • Soaplady57 · 1 year ago
I do not understand these Log Cabin Republicans!! How can they go along with McCain and his lying tactics?

I have never felt that an election was as important as the upcoming one. I hope and pray that others will see the light and vote for Obama. We can't have liars taking the most important job(s) in the nation!!

Keep up the great work, John! I am an avid fan, I read your blog daily at least 3-4 times!
  • Patriot · 1 year ago
What in the hell has happened to this country? Since when did truth, level headed diplomacy, and the ability to articulate a great speech without stumbling all over yourself become a sign of weakness?

How much more "dumbed down" can this country possibly get?
  • RobertSanDimas · 1 year ago
Honestly, I don't understand it either. Haven't since the first Bushwhacking in '00. I'm older, 66, was born into a progressive family and stayed that way. I joined JFK's PC right out of college. We were an admired and trusted nation. It saddens me to say that, if McCain is elected and I had the wherewithal financially to do it, I'd emigrate.
  • KISSman · 1 year ago
All this might be true, but it has worked thus far. It's extremely frustrating when McCain's campaign has lied about so much and is then rewarded in the polls. They are banking on the lies sticking in peoples' heads so that the truth never gets a chance to change those minds.

During the primary season alone, we saw just how many people who are aren't incredibly intelligent and/or aren't tapped into politics that are out there. I mean, 10% of the Democrats believed Obama is a Muslim! Still, the votes of those people count just as much as yours and mine. That's just frightening!

Anyhow, this is clearly the target audience for all of the smears because it's unlikely that they'll ever hear the truth or even believe it when they do hear it. Every single McCain ad I see on my TV is a smear of Obama and they all have a degree of lies in them. They run every single day in my state. All I know is that we're in big trouble because they're going to go to the wire running this kind of campaign as long as the polls let them do it.
  • scytherius · 1 year ago
Two things on polls. First, they use the 2004 paradigm and simply do not take into account Dem turnout in the primaries or the HUG Dem registration.

Also, America is in a Civil War. And one said are just a bunch of frightened, ignorant, albeit dangerous, religious radicals. And either we can show the world we are going to change America or the world is going to change it for us. So, in reality, it is a no lose as the Right Wing will either not be allowed to continue b us or by the world.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
    Thanks for saying that.

What does Christianity say about lying?

"Know the truth and the truth shall make you free."

If the truth is what makes you free, what could their purpose be in lying?
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
If voters took the recommendations of their newspapers, McCain would already be the loser. However, the quotes look good in TV ads.
  • jmcon007 · 1 year ago
I don't get it. If McCain accused me of supprting "comprehensive sex education" to children in kindergarten, knowing full well I'm trying to raise two impressionable young daughters.....daughters I'm already trying to protect from the non-stop scurilous charges against their father from the John McCain camp.....well, these kinds of accusations are way over the line. Obama needs to call a news conference, build some excitement for maximum media coverage, and challenge McCain publicly to stop with the disgusting innuendo about kids and sex. Sounds like something the depraved Rick Davis would think up. Americans will relate to Obama protecting his daughters.
  • freshpaint · 1 year ago
    Oh... my... god...

This has to be the definitive list. You must have been cutting and pasting for HOURS! Thanks for assembling it all for us.

I'm so cynical, however, that I just know all this will be spun and respun -- and McCain will be painted as a victim of the Liberal Press, yet again. And the rest of the idiots out there supporting this ticket don't read the papers or the internet, so they'll never hear this side of the story.

And I'm sure the ads are still playing in endless loops on tv stations in swing states, poisoning the very air they pass thru.
  • DAB · 1 year ago
The guy who is making McCain's smear ads used to have a PR firm in Tulsa, Oklahoma -- and everyone in the business there knows he's a slimeball and a half. He moved the firm to California a few years later and got into the political action big time. This guy's probably ripe for a coke-and-prostitution investigation: http://www.strategicperceptioninc.com/fred.php

What really excellent work, John. Thank you.

When you've been saying that McCain was going to end up in trouble with the media because he was crossing over the line, I was skeptical. . .

but this pretty much proves you were right. The fetid water thrown in their face finally seems to have awakened them.

Let's hope it does some good with the electorate.
  • SociologistTina · 1 year ago
    Outstanding post. Thank you.

Here's hoping Obama says "Enough!" not just to Neo-Con's policies, but the lies and tactics which have made them possible, and to the escalation of those lies, tactics, and polices by the McCain campaign.
  • 1Ladybug · 1 year ago
Not surprised that McCain has sacrificed his honor, integrity, and soul by saying and approving things others are saying that are out right lies. Mc Cain knows this is his last chance to become President and he is desperate. He desperately needs to distract the public and distance himself from the failed Bush foreign and ecconomic policies ,and his own policy of continueing the Bush policies and his record or lack there of. . That is no weapons of mass destruction, Al Quaida in Iraq, ecconomic recession, rising unemployment, disappearance of the middle class ( many middle class now at or below the poverty line ) , loss of respect by other major countries in the world, less of a super power than it was, and now bank failures reminicence of the 1930’s, becoming indebted to China (who along with India will be the next super power) during McCain’s time in the Senate and while the Republican’s had control of the direction the country would go in. I do hope that the American people will see through McCain’s lies and tactics and not trust him the Republicans or Paliin. Unless the American people are willing to make sacrifices (ecconomical) and to change the course that the US is headed on it will continue on this downward spiral. The downward spiral will not hurt the rich because they can just move and send their children to which ever country has good schools They are citizens of the world. It is the poor and lower middle class that will be hurt with the downward spiral.

Meanwhile Cathleen Decker at the LA times writes a puff piece about politics as usual with a "gee they're both doing it" tone, and the Times as the audacity to run it as a regular news story in section 1.

When are these "journalists" going to learn that their job is not to be fair to both sides, but to present the facts -w/r they favor one side or not?
