AMERICAblog: Limbaugh calls for riots in Denver at Dem Convention

1968 was a police riot, not protestors. (This was a reply to a below post - comments are way out of order, hey.) Update - Inciting to Riot as discussed by Rachel on Keith is you have to incite on the day of or damn close to it to be culpable, that Pills knows this and is careful to not make himself liable, etc. Weasel coprophage.

After two months of testimony by more than 50 witnesses, the three detectives charged in the Sean Bell shooting have been found not guilty on all charges.
Shouts of "No! No! No!" and swearing erupted outside the courthouse immediately after the judge read his verdict, followed by cries of "Not guilty!," from within a huge crowd of people gathered outside the Queens courthouse. Some women were heard weeping loudly. Later, shouts of "Murderer! Murderer!" were heard. http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?stid=1...

My apologies, I just wrote a comment on the Open Thread that said no one cared about what Rush Limbaugh is trying to do to our right to a peaceful convention. I am furious as are many others, including our mayor.
Here is what the Denver Post, a major daily, had to say in addition to link you posted.
Operation Chaos Limbaugh has stated that there is nothing wrong with Republicans voting in the Democrat campaign, as Democrats voted for McCain in Vermont, New Hampshire, Florida, and other states. "This is getting absurd. If it weren't for independents and Democrats crossing over, Senator McCain would not be our nominee!"[31]
Dubbing the effort "Operation Chaos," Limbaugh says he intends to continue to encourage his listeners to vote for whomever is behind in the Democratic primary, to sow chaos and disunity among Democrats during a divisive primary battle.[32] Limbaugh then began to advocate that his Republican listeners vote for Clinton, something the rules of the Texas primary permitted. According to a county volunteer, one voter declared "Rush Limbaugh sent me", another "I am voting for Hillary Clinton but I want to see the Democrats implode," and a great many others mentioning Limbaugh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_Limbaugh#Cont...

AQ-2, give it a thought: Rush's audience will not be at the convention. I heard the entire broadcast and heard nothing that sounded like inciting a riot. References to a black president were also taken completely out of context. If there is danger, it's from the Sharpton crowd who are probably already painting their signs and placards and who are experienced at rioting.

Denver is SCARED that the convention will burn down the city.
This is the section of Denver my sister and parents live. They are frightened orf Denver being turned into Chicago 1968. They had to hold a lottery for permits for the parks in Denver, for protests - there were so many requests. According to my sister every park is taken.
"Even McWilliams Park?" I asked, visualizing people with placards sitting on the concrete dinosaur/dragon and chanting. She said she wasn't sure, it's a small park, but she thinks so.
All I could think of thne was damage to my beloved little park, that was even host to my "fly up" ceremony (go from being a Browning Girls Scout to a Junior Girl Scout)
My sister, who is an event coordinator for one of the venues which is even further south of downtown than the Denver Tech Center - they have a full slate of events scheduled.
Why are liberals, lefties and porogressivess protesting at the Democratic Convention -- shouldn't we be protesting at the OFFENDER'S (ie. the Republican) convention?
But the bottom line is Denver is already scared, Rush should be charged inciting violence and roits.
and they are full up -- I couldn't even find a hotel room that I could afford or was willing to sleep in.
IndianaDemocrat at DAilyKos reminded us that
He's REPEATING The Threats Of Radical Leftists Check into "Recreate68", and the Churchill-supporting loons behind it, ENDORSED by Sheehan and Code-Pink...
You can bet your ass that there will be provocateurs paid for by right wing sources who will be at the convention trying to instigate those riots, and any other mischief they can. They used to do that all the time during the anti-Vietnam war protests, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they will be at it again.
I apologize for the bad language. Rush is a fucking asshole who lives a sad life. I hope that when the ocean starts rising the evil ball of putrid slime will be carried out to sea in his beach house never to be heard from again.
Where did you hear the news about the Iranian ship ?

Did anyone notice the poll in the ABC story--the poll that indicates that a majority of people DON'T think Limbaugh crossed the line by wishing for violence at the convention? (45%--Yes; 55%--No) What the hell is that about? Even if you are a Republican--have people REALLY gone that insane?
(How funny that Limbaugh accuses US of being the violent ones--even as he flat out says he WISHES for a riot. What a scumbag.)

Clinton has pulled a slash and burn like no other, and she should be prepared - as should all the sniveling WEAK "uncommitted" Super Delegates (and what's so "super" about them, other than the fact that they have money, power and access?) - to reap what she has so energetically sown.

A caller into Stepanie Miiler just now said that last night Mike Malloy played a 4 minute clip of Rush's show where a black woman called into rush's show and really put Rush to shame but Rush still called for the riots in Denver
We agree on many things, but not this. Sharpton said there will be trouble IF the nomination is taken away from Obama and I agree. Sharpton did not call for riots, he simple made a statement. Limbaugh called for, under the guise of "dreaming" outright violence. He named it, he gave reasons "to prevent a Democrat from being president" and he did it two days in a row, on Wednesday and Thursday.

The rethuglicans, the party of dirty politics, smear, dishonesty, stealing elections, and now inciting violence. It is a shame that someone from the Democratic party, like Hillary, is not only breaking bread with some of the conservatives, but her disgusting tactics, resemble the rethuglican ways, and certainly not the Democrats.
There are strong rumors that Hillary knows she will lose, and yet, she is doing Rove like tactics, to bloody Obama, so that he will lose in November, and she can run again in 2012. Well, we do not know for sure if this is true, but she sure acts like that. She is despicable, and every hours that passes, she is making sure the rethuglicans have enough ammunition to attack Obama. Her supporters remind me of the Bush supporters, who thought he could not do any wrong, when he led us into a bloody war. Kool aid?

Look I’m not saying anyone should skin Limbaugh alive, slowly, so no matter how deaf his drug abuse has made him the vibrations of his own screams will pierce his skull.
I’m certainly not advocating that, after he’s skinned alive, he’s thrown into a vat of lemon juice and salt.
I’m just saying - how GREAT would it be for America if Limbaugh WERE to be skinned alive and forced to soak in salt and lemon juice? How HEALING would it be for this nation?
Have a Limbaugh-ly Jolly Christmas Skinned alive in lemon juice? Filled with fear - screams in his ear Who cares what rhymes with juice?
Now, if you THINK I’m requesting anyone to skin Limbaugh alive and soak in him a lemony salty brine, well, than you are just some kind of sick sadist. Seriously, what’s wrong with you? You shouldn’t be reading my posts, because you don’t “get” me!

Glenn Spagnuolo called Rush Limbaugh a fool in the Denver Post . His group has applied for peaceful protests.
Inciting to Riot Apr 24th, 2008 at 8:58 pm by Susie
Rush Limbaugh:
“We do, hopefully, the right thing for the sake of this country. We’re the only one in charge of our affairs. We don’t farm out our defense if we elect Democrats … and riots in Denver, at the Democratic Convention will see to it we don’t elect Democrats. And that’s the best damn thing that can happen to this country, as far as I can think,” Limbaugh said.
Is this enough to file charges?
Under federal law, a riot is a public disturbance involving an act of violence by one or more persons who are assembled in a group of at least three people. The act of violence must be one that presents a clear and present danger of injury to another person or damage to another person’s property. Threatening to commit a violent act in such a group situation that could injure another person or damage property is also considered a riot if one of the persons in the group has the ability at the time to carry out the threatened violence.
Inciting a riot applies to a person who organizes, encourages, or participates in a riot. It can apply to one who urges or instigates others to riot. It does not apply to someone who merely advocates ideas or expresses beliefs, if those ideas and beliefs do not involve advocating violence.
The federal crime of inciting a riot carries a possible penalty of up to five years in prison a fine.
UPDATE: Richard Blair says we should complain to the Colorado Attorney General:
…and you should be urging Colorado Attorney General John Suthers to investigate. How is it that a GOP attack dog frontman can call for riots in the streets of Denver during the Democratic National Convention, and not be currently residing in a jail cell someplace? Because, apparently, IOKIYAR. Still, Inciting to Riot is a felony - and the Colorado AG should be all over this.
Here's my note: Rush Limbaugh is inciting his listeners to riot at the Democratic Convention in Denver. This is a federal crime with penalty of up to 5 years and a fine. Please do something. This is America, not some third-world sewer. Rush is also intimating a race war. Make him pay for his anti-American words.

I'm sorry, but only con-servatives are allowed to exercise unlimited free speech in this country. You see, when they utter damaging, anti-American rhetoric, it doesn't count as offensive or damaging or even life-threatening...why, they are just kiddin' around. Of course, if that had come out of an edited soundbite of individual words strung together by the Right and the MSM from Rev. Wright, well...that's a whole different story.

Hillary Clinton is in collusion with the Republican Party to get the Democratic nomination period, and the Democrats have no choice but to expose her. Someone mentioned Indiana. Well, in North Carolina she is spending record money in their primary while at the same time she is supposedly over $15 million in debt and not paying her bills across the country. Where is the money coming from? The Republicans? The NC Republicans are running an unprecedented Willie Horton type ad against Obama there, in the DEMOCRATIC primary when Obama is not even the nominee yet. McCain keeps bringing the ad up, Clinton I believe is silent, which is just for the purpose of drawing attention to it rather than to disclaim it.
Clinton is planning to campaign at Camp Lejeune, and wouldn't you know the Bush administration is cooperating with her plans. All of a sudden, 11 shots were fired at an Iranian ship, and the false story of Syria building a bomb has been resurrected.
The Democrats have no choice but to take Clinton's collusion head-on because she is not only destroying Obama's chances in November, she is destroying the party's chances overall, and she will destroy both party and nation ultimately if allowed to continue.
Democrats, take the bull by the horns and out her collusion, and in the short term, Obama, please have your two new endorsers Nunn and Boren campaign for you in NC.

In addition to contacting the Colorado attorney general about Limbaugh's cries for rioting and chaos, let's not forget his sponsors. Other rightwing poo flingers, most notably Michael Savage Weiner, have had companies drop them because of their hateful rhetoric, leading these free market advocates to whine about how their First Amendment rights have been violated when sponsors have found them radioactive. Limbaugh is still a power, even if he's peaked, and most companies presumably go along with his antics because he delivers audience. They may have other thoughts if he is advocating violent civil disturbances in one of America's larger cities. Letters and calls should always be respectful, of course, but why not ask these fine firms if they are comfortable financially supporting a man who is openly calling for street violence? It's long past time for people to stand up to this sexist, racist, homophobic pimple on the ass of American discourse.

Limbaugh is instructive because in so many ways he is the prototype rightwinger in this country. Consider:
1. Avoided service in Vietnam but criticizes the patriotism. Just like George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Trent Lott, Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich, Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, John Ashcroft, and scores of others.
2. Paints himself as defender of traditional family values but is zero for three in marriage. Just like other marriage flunkouts including Rudy Guiliani, John McCain, Newt Gingrich, and scores of others.
3. Hopeless hypocrite on issues of morality by virtue of his ongoing cry to jail all drug dealers and users while addicted to Oxycontin. Just like other morality hypocrites such as Rudy Guiliani, Newt Gingrich, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, David Vitter, and scores of others.
Rush is them. They are Rush. A pox on the whole bunch of bozos.

Kansas Moderate,
I know nothing of the political landscape in the Sunflower State but those of us backing Obama are not lemmings. It's those who are following the scorched earth campaign of Hillary Clinton who are marching off a cliff. Can you not see that she and Bill are willing to destroy the Democratic Party if they don't get their way? Can you not see that she and Bill had no problem with the rules and regulations of the Democratic race until they started losing? Can you not see that she and Bill are now whining about rewriting the rules because they were gobsmacked by a movement they cannot understand, much less embrace? Can you not see that the Clintons turned to casual racism and the worst kind of Karl Rovian tactics when their red carpet stroll to the White House was short-circuited by a once-in-a-generation candidate? Can you not see that Hillary Clinton would begin a presidential race with negatives at a historic high for a candidate? Can you not see that a return of the Clintons to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue --which probably wouldn't happen because she would lose to McCain-- would mean a return of Carville, Davis, McAulliffe and the rest of the pandering DLC crowd?
The Clintons are yesterday. Obama is tomorrow. The choice is easy.
Don't slur me because your favorite candidate ran an arrogant, spendthrift campaign populated with boors and boobs like Mark Penn. She made her choices and she's reaping the reward. I'd also remind you, KM, that when Billy Bob was president, we lost Congress. If she gets the nomination, she will not have any coattails and our hard won efforts may all be for naught. But you go right on thinking you're correct and everyone else is foolish.

We are clear-eyed about Fox’'s role in the dissemination and amplification of Republican talking points this election. They have been the tip of the spear when it comes to repeatedly broadcasting some of the most specious of rumors about Obama. He is going on their Sunday show to take Fox on, not because we have any illusion about their motives or politics in this election.
Glen Spagnolo, of Recreate 68, a friend of the whackjob, Churchhill, runs an org that is having seminars on creating a civil disturbance at the convention. The organization has been talking to the police about arrest protocols and is warning that whatever happens is on the hands of the DNC, who they claim, caused an assembly permit at the convention center to be denied. At least one Insurance professional has advised shopkeepers near the convention to board up their premises since insurance does not cover damages sustained in riot or insurrection. So, there will be a disturbance; but it will come from the far left.

(How funny that Limbaugh accuses US of being the violent ones--even as he flat out says he WISHES for a riot. What a scumbag.)
I was already worried about trouble in Denver during the convention, but with this loud mouthed ass Limbaugh calling for open violence I am very, very, worried. I live here and yes, many other sites around the city are scheduled for activities.
AMEN, sister! But you're preaching to the choir here. Clinton has pulled a slash and burn like no other, and she should be prepared - as should all the sniveling WEAK "uncommitted" Super Delegates (and what's so "super" about them, other than the fact that they have money, power and access?) - to reap what she has so energetically sown.
GOD DAMN HILLARY CLINTON and long may Viagra Limpballs rot in hell!
U.S.-contracted ship fires on Iranian boat (contracted from where and what country?????)

There are strong rumors that Hillary knows she will lose, and yet, she is doing Rove like tactics, to bloody Obama, so that he will lose in November, and she can run again in 2012.
Well, we do not know for sure if this is true, but she sure acts like that.
She is despicable, and every hours that passes, she is making sure
the rethuglicans have enough ammunition to attack Obama.
Her supporters remind me of the Bush supporters, who thought he could
not do any wrong, when he led us into a bloody war. Kool aid?
These are the last gasps of a war criminal regime. Rove and Limbaugh know they'll be on trial if a Democrat wins the presidency and more control of Congress.
WMDs = Weapons of Mass Distraction
I’m certainly not advocating that, after he’s skinned alive, he’s thrown into a vat of lemon juice and salt.
I’m just saying - how GREAT would it be for America if Limbaugh WERE to be skinned alive and forced to soak in salt and lemon juice? How HEALING would it be for this nation?
Have a Limbaugh-ly Jolly Christmas
Skinned alive in lemon juice?
Filled with fear - screams in his ear
Who cares what rhymes with juice?
Now, if you THINK I’m requesting anyone to skin Limbaugh alive and soak in him a lemony salty brine, well, than you are just some kind of sick sadist. Seriously, what’s wrong with you? You shouldn’t be reading my posts, because you don’t “get” me!

Glenn Spagnuolo called Rush Limbaugh a fool in the Denver Post . His group has applied for peaceful protests.

Inciting to Riot
Apr 24th, 2008 at 8:58 pm by Susie

Here's my note:
Rush Limbaugh is inciting his listeners to riot at the Democratic Convention in Denver. This is a federal crime with penalty of up to 5 years and a fine.
Please do something. This is America, not some third-world sewer.
Rush is also intimating a race war. Make him pay for his anti-American words.
Thanks for the link to the AG. I sent a request for action. I live in Denver and don't mind peaceful protests but a riot is not the same.
RUSH LIMBAUGH IS A PIG
This is Limbaugh being Limbaugh. Stop buying into it!
the big problem is, he's also an unofficial mouthpiece for bushco and the GOPer party. i'd like to see numbers on how many times cheney and rice have been on his show giving "serious" interviews.
but when he's singing about race riots to the tune of 'White Christmas' or changing Puff the Magic Dragon to Barack the Magic Negro, it's all fun and games.
he gets away with much more racist/sexist/hateful shit than Imus ever dreamed of.

A previous poster already has noted the hard facts that El Rushbo is no longer the media sensation he once was, so we can expect him to embrace his inner cracker in direct proportion to his ebbing ratings. Somewhere, Father Coughlin is smiling broadly.
Don't forget anti-union...Many of Rush's start-up producers and such gained their access to the media by scabbing at stations undergoing labor battles.

Thanks for the link to the Colorado Attorney General. What Rush is doing is a crime, folks. Write and demand he be prosecuted:

I live here and didn't know all that. Where are you reading this stuff? I knew the permits were denied but I thought these guys were going for "peaceful protests". I am definitely rethinking my desire to go downtown during that time.

By your reasoning, GWB is and always will be a falling-down drunk. Laura Bush is a homicidal maniac, and the Cathlick church, from the 'Pope' to the pews, is nothing but a bunch of child-molesters
I don't understand what's with you Obama lemmings. An Obama-dominated Democratic Party organization in my state rigged our Super Tuesday caucuses so that a majority of ordinary Main Street Democrats were discouraged from trying to attend and participate.

So, there will be a disturbance; but it will come from the far left.
Why do democrats allow "Operation Chaos" to succeed? A bunch of superdelagates reading tea leaves and hoping to hell they aren't on the Clinton shit list if Hillary gets the nomination? We know what happens to people who cross the Clintons.
The fear is palpable...
