Interesting. It seems theologically conservative Protestants have adopted a system similar to that of Papal indulgences, which was one of the systemic corruptions that sparked the Reformation in the first place.
  • JamesR · 5 months ago
EXACTLY! - By being so 'born-again' and a creepy "Promise Keeper" he had in effect bought pre-paid indulgences. Get out of jail free cards from the brethren. You're an OK sinner if you are one of us, who purportedly stand against sin, yet seem to do it so often. It's like a Monty Python sketch without any of the humo(u)r.

    Interesting how things work.

When it was revealed the John Edwards had an affair, the corporate media declared his political career as dead that very afternoon.

When it was revealed that Eliot Spitzer had an affair, he resigned within hours and the corporate media declared his political life was over.

Today's LA Times had a story about Ensign and said that "his political aspirations had dimmed." In other words -- he'll be back preaching family values in no time.

And there will be hardly a peep coming out of the democrats. (losers)
  • LuZenMyMnd · 5 months ago
    I know...the spineless wonders!!!

Where's their pitbull mentality? Get ahold of a story and work it till it doesn't work anymore.

Republicans are such hypocritical losers BUT dems are worse for being such door mats.
  • LuZenMyMnd · 5 months ago
of course he will. He did his little Jimmy Swaggart repentance and soon he'll be good as new. Hallelujah Brutha!

Establishment Rethuglican private parts sound a bit like pot-bound plants...Yearning to escape their double knit and wool blend confines, they seek the warm, moisture-rich loam of an unsanctified breeding ground...Just don't dead-head!
  • HelenRainier · 5 months ago
But of course he'll be welcomed back in the fold of the highly moral and pious Republicon hypocrite politicians. He's a good Christian Promise Keeper!

Gotta ask what the hell that Promise was that he agreed to Keep. That he could screw someone else's wife and keep his mouth shut until the possible threat of blackmail raised its nasty head?

Life's a bitch and then you die.
  • Butch1 · 5 months ago
    Hi Helen,

"...He's a good Christian Promise Keeper!"
    ======================================
They'll embrace him and claim he just "slipped" and now his faith is restored and all is forgiven because, hey, he's a christian and so are they. (republican christians that is and they have a completely different set of rules they follow)
  • HelenRainier · 5 months ago
    Hi Butch,

Yes, he just slipped kind of like Newt did when he committed serial adultery twice and look, now he is a good, faithful and pious Roman Catholic.

I thought it was just SOP that the only GOOD Christians are Republicon Christians -- especially if they're old white men who try to tell everyone how to live their lives.
  • David in Arizona · 5 months ago
Of course he'll be forgiven. He's a good, upstanding christian republican. Like all the rest of them. As for the wives? Well, the first rule of being the spouse of a good, upstanding christian republican male is to submit to his will and ignore his extramarital transgressions. Then again, Lindsey isn't married so I don't know who might be ignoring his transgressions. Or his personal ads.

I always fail to see how personal life choices become the end-all-be-all of political careers. I think we put way to much emphasis on the personal choices our politicians make at the expense of ignoring their decisions and impacts as a public official. Resignation due to such choices is the cowerdly way out. Politicians need to face up to thier mistakes (because nobody is perfect) put their head down and get back to running the country to the best of their abilities.

no one cares unless THAT person leads a Crusade of Moral Values against others.....thats HYPOCRACY to the ENTH degree and MUST Be called out on it ASAP!

How can we get the military to initiate a DADT inquiry into Lindsey?
  • JamesR · 5 months ago
You can have sex with him and give the pictures to the Air Force.

More to the point - How much do you love your country?

Next time you post a story about Lindsey Graham... please not during the eating time.

    I've lost my appetite.

This blog has been (and rightly so) absolutely furious against the false stereotypes the DOMA brief perpetuates against gay people. So don't start rehashing others. "It's odd. But, then, Lindsey's odd in that way single men of a certain age are." Guys who don't marry are gay? Or odd? Thanks a lot.
  • Blueflash · 5 months ago
You're not gay. You don't have gaydar (but we still like you). Anyway, who would want Lindsey Graham in their group if it could be denied?
  • terrya · 5 months ago
I very much liked the movie "Outrage", but I was curious as to why Lindsey Graham wasn't included. I mean, come on...the talk has been around ever since he was elected to the Senate. And he has far more influence on legislation relevant to our community (since he votes on it) than Shepard Smith, who WAS mentioned in "Outrage".
  • LuZenMyMnd · 5 months ago
Oooooh-weeeee....If the covers were really pulled off this moral minority it might scare us.

Who'da thunk dems would be the Real moral majority by sticking to it's values of live and let live.

Trent Lott is the one who, above all, should have been mentioned. Trent Lott who unexpectedly announced he wouldn't seek another term. Trent Lott, whose call boy, Benjamin Nichols, made a point of rebuking Ted Haggard's call boy for outing a client while knowing he was suspected of servicing Lott, thereby effectively outing Lott himself - Benjamin Nichol's 15 minutes. There's no doubt in my mind that when pornographer and hater of Republican "family values" hypocrisy Larry Flint said, at the time of the Lewinsky scandal, that he knew something that in his words would "bring the Republican party down" if revealed that he was talking about hypocritical anti-gay rights closet-case and head of the senate Trent Lott.
  • Butch1 · 5 months ago
It is typical hypocrisy of the GOP to give their own a pass but do their best to make democrats resign for the betterment of the country. They've become so dense anymore to notice or even care.
  • John G. · 5 months ago
I find the speculation about Lindsey's sexual orientation to be entirely inappropriate. Enough people already get harassed as it is over their perceived sexual orientation, did the hypocrisy of that comment escape you?
  • Disgusted American · 5 months ago
Oh pleeeez John G - it IS entirely Appropriate to talk about Ms Lindsey Graham....he votes away LGBT rights every chance he gets......therefore he's OPEN GAYME......fuck him,and you for trying to protect that weasel.
  • kugelschreiber · 5 months ago
    Let's see how this goes.
  • JamesR · 5 months ago
    It's called "irony," not "hypocrisy."
  • smallhandff · 5 months ago
Isn't the Senator still in the reserves?
  • kevinbgoode · 5 months ago
Well now, I just hate to disagree with Ms. Graham, but since Sen. Ensign is in a publicly recognized marriage, his behavior wasn't "private". . .and it was an attack upon the very institution of marriage the Right claims to be adamantly defending against the evil "gay". . .

Since the "religious" Right claims that providing legal benefits to same-sex couples would forever change the definition of marriage, their legal organizations should be hauling Ensign into the Nevada courts for breaking his vows - and demanding the state forcibly dissolve his "marriage. After all, the state did pass a constitutional amendment declaring that marriage was between A man and A woman - clearly Ensign chose to consummate an intimate, marriage-only-type relationship with at least TWO women. Therefore, the state and federal governments need to immediately pull their recognition of his "legal" arrangement.
  • tigergrrldc · 5 months ago
So when Democrats do it, they have to resign and go hide under a rock.

When Repukes do it, they are forgiven and welcomed back into the fold.

Did Spitzer really need to resign? Wide Stance, Diaper Dave, and now it appears, Black Mail (Ensign) didn't.

As a former Charleston resident it's been long assumed that Lindsey is gay. I think he is so deep in the closet that there is no stories to link him to. Yet. Funny though, his fellow Senator Jim DeMint is one of the most homophobic pols in the country but he and the rest of the conservatives in the state look the other way as long as Lindsey stays underground. Pathetic.

Sure ..these hypocrits break the 10 commandments, find jesus, repent, and poof, their families are stronger, yet my family is still an abomination.. Evidently to these people traditional marraige is between one man, one woman, and however many mistress they can handle.
Its truely shameful that they still get away with this and the media lets them off the hook.. of course why be surprised, that's what straight men do, they marry, they cheat and they repent, and if they are famous enough their "forgiving wives" write a book about it, make lots of money and go on Oprah.. ahh remember that comic from years ago, Yakov Smirnoff?? he used to say "AMerica, what a country"
  • marieburns · 5 months ago
Lindsey Graham still works for JAG. He can't come out. And oh yeah, he couldn't win another Republican primary in South Carolina if he came out. I feel sorry for him. When he isn't totally pissing me off.
