"looking presidential"= using republican talking points so the media's parent companies can keep their corporate tax cuts
  • SteamingPile · 1 year ago
The operative word is "looking" Presidential. He doesn't actually have to DO anything at all so long as Obama and Clinton are going at it. All this business about McCain not having any money isn't quite the problem it would have been if the Democrats had a nominee already. McCain (and his sidekick Lieberman) go on a junket with Cheney to Iraq - it's news, and he gets TV time (and two tickets on Air Force Two) for free. Smile and wave and maybe say a few words (try not to get confused). McCain shows up at a seminar for conservative euchre players - it's news and he gets TV time for free as long as it wasn't the McCain campaign that set up the meeting. As long as the Democratic primary race is still up in the air, that's more than enough for McCain to make slow, steady progress in the polls. If we had to flip a coin, put either one of our candidates on the ballot, and hold the general election tomorrow, we'd likely get our asses handed to us because we really haven't gotten much opportunity to confront McCain directly. The man is getting a free ride, not only from the press, but from the Democrats.

    Looking presidential? hmm...

is that the same thing as the guy you would want to have a beer with even though he's caring more about corporations then We The People?

buzz words, that's all that is. spin, spun ... and around they go

its all part of the media love affair with McCain. They want him to BE President, so they say he ACTS like a President.

btw, does looking Presidential include holding hands with a Saudi Prince? or kissing a male escort? just wondering.
  • Tom3 · 1 year ago
McCain only looks Presidential to the idiots who will vote for him.

McSame is Four More Years Of The Same. He would wreck the US.

When "looking presidential" is code for "not drooling" we can be very certain that the MSM is feeling desperate. They don't know what to say because they know that not only is the administration about to change, but that real change will force their hand.
The most amusing example of adjusting to a new reality to my knowledge is in the "Romanische Philologie," summer edition, 1945, just after the collapse of the Third Reich, where the editors, long favored by the Nazi party for their occult interpretations of medieval mansucripts, explained the suddenly small journal with nothing interpretive said about medieval manuscripts, "current events have caused a paper shortage."

"...does looking Presidential include holding hands with a Saudi Prince? or kissing a male escort?"

Chimpy did more than kiss that male ho.

McCain better stick to "looking presidential" cause soon as he opens his mouth, he sounds quite non-presidential. (McNotTheSharpestToolInTheShed)
  • Tom3 · 1 year ago
Chimpy got to first base with Lieberman and McCain. And that's in public.

One can only imagine what they do behind closed doors.

Gross, there's an ad for Clean Coal in here.

Clean Coal, now there's an oxymoron for you.

Here is a recent photo of John McCain looking presidential.
    http://wonkette.com/368614/john-mccains-wild-ir...

To me he looks like he is shitting his pants and won't get off the helicopter.
Year McCain looks Presidential that is all we Americans care about. "He looks like a doctor and plays one on tv.

McCain plays the war hero, the prisoner of war, the tortured veteran and yet has done not a single thing to get our troops funding for body armor, safer humvees, better medical care when they return, money for the families who have suffered and are still suffering from their losses. I don't see him championing a day of mourning when we reached 4,000 dead or worried that PTSD would claim thousands in the years to come through suicide and violence that they cannot control. No I don't think McCain the savy veteran knows that part of war at all. He flew above the clounds 40 years ago dropped bombs and flew back to land on a carrier at sea, aloof, removed and safe. Like all our politicians few have any real sense of what America is going through. The grieving of parents who have no job, now lost the house and are no where to live. Parents who don't have the money to buy gas so they can look for a job. Parents who now realize the American Dream has turned into a Nightmare and they opportunities for their kids have evaporated. Kids in school who know there are no jobs for them except flipping hamburgers. Right now the luckiest may be the poor who have so little left to lose they may actually survive the coming depression in better shape than anyone else.
Yeah, he looks Presidential but he doesn't know shit.

"John McCain is traveling the country - and the world - looking presidential."
    ---

    given the present pResident...

'looking presidental' would be, confused... maybe drunk... maybe heavily medicated... creating new words and/or pronunciations for existing words... sounding like a complete imbecil... wishing he were milking stalliongs on the ranch rather than meeting some foriegn leader whom he can't understand at all.

While I disagree with McCain's policies, I don't think we should be taking cheap shots at him. The whole point of the Obama campaign is to unify Americans both Democrat and Republican. People are sick of the bitter partisanship of the Clinton scum and want a new era of compromise and teamwork. Barack has promised to welcome key Republicans into his Administration and end the pointless bickering, We need to stop playing the Dem vs Rep games and do what's best for America. There are many smart and respectable Republicans and we need to utilize their knowledge and experience. And there are some worthless and corrupt Dems like Bill and Shillary who have no place in public office.
  • nicho · 1 year ago
Well, you have to admit that Bush has set the bar for "presidential" really low. If you show up, aren't falling-down drunk, don't puke on your shoes, and don't actually say "fuck" in public, you're "presidential."
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
It's a completely meaningless meme whose sole purpose is to try to make McCain seem like a much better candidate than he actually is, and to distract the public from all his deficiencies.
  • dad · 1 year ago
Is it the standing on podiums and waving at crowds part? Wearing a bullet proof vest traveling Iraq?

    It is the lying part.

Either that or the law breaking part.
  • ChrisM70 · 1 year ago
It's all about appearance, not substance.

A cowboy who's all hat and no cattle, and a press that's easily distracted by shiny objects.
  • kevinbgoode · 1 year ago
I suggest we run a box which lists MSM outlets that, by their reporting, appear to have endorsed McCain months before anyone runs an editorial or broadcast official endorsement. It shouldn't be too hard to keep track of their reporting. . .after all, I'm already convinced both the Associated Press and ABC News has endorsed John McCain.
We should be willing to question their inherent corporate/conservative bias long before they ever publicly admit them.
  • Milli · 1 year ago
He looks like a deer caught in headlights. He looks like he doesn't believe what he is saying - if he knows what he's saying in the first place. He looks old, tired, and ready to take a nap at any moment. He doesn't look "presidential". He looks like an older, and more weary, version of Bush.
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
TruthCounts: Name a few smart and respectable Republicans. They have put us in this mess they have run the country for the past 12 plus years. Not a one stood up to Bush especially McCain he parrots every one of Bushco's talking points. We don't need to apologize and kiss their balls. They have attacked viciously with lie after lie about our candidates. No the only thing the GOP understand is being fed their own medicine.

Here's a clue why the media sees him as looking Presidential, and it's not pretty.

    Two words: White, man.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    "Two words: White, man."

    that's the tacky truth.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Simple.

He's breaking the law just like Bush.
  • JMOHR · 1 year ago
He looks presidential because he is traveling throughout the middle east and meeting with their top leaders. It looks like (as opposed to actually doing) he is making foreign policy and that he is in control. Of course, this is a thinly veiled political tour at taxpayer expense and trumpeted by a compliant and subservient MSM. However, the Democrats will suffer for this while Hillary and Obama continue to battle it out.

It means taking the straws out of your nose before going on national television.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
He didn't look so presidential in a picture posted at Huffington Post a few days ago. He was sitting in a helicopter, clutching a red hat and looked scared "sh*****s.
