Democrats are going to have to start behaving like they are a real alternative if they want to enthusiasm shown during the primaries to carry them through in the general election. So far they seem to be using their second amendment rights on their feet!

Liddy Dole is going to have a big problem after today. She announced she is ok with drilling for oil off the Outer Banks (which, of course, she used to be against).

    Save NC's beaches... vote Hagan.

I won't be supporting any democrats with money or volunteering this cycle but I do plan on focussing my resources on keeping my civil rights from being stripped from me in November.

The Smith-Merkley poll results are interesting in view of the fact that Gordon Smith has been airing campaign ads since the start of the primary election here. I haven't seen a single Merkley ad yet.

However, the latest ad I've seen cites Obama's praise for Smith on an issue; this on the heels of a couple of retired Oregon Democratic legislators saying that they support Smith.

I have a feeling that this one's going to turn very nasty as we approach November.

Merkley needs to get on the stick. Smith is basically trying to pretend he's not a Republican in the series of ads he's doing right now. I spent last evening phone-banking for Merkley in Eugene, and from our experience, there are a quite a number of Dem voters, especially among the more elderly, who are not at all clear on the concept that Smith is a conservative repub. He's been playing this independent Oregonian meme and too many people are buying it.

Uggh, Gordo is making me sick with his ads. He's making no mention of being a Republican at all, and coming off as a bi-partisan Independent, with green color themes and everything. They're very good commercials; just very misleading. I agree about Merkley - He really needs to get on it before too long.

And those two women endorsing him - WTF? I need their contact info, that's BS. 'He was one of the first to speak out against the war...' OMG, what a crock - First of what? Lockstep Republicans? Holy shit we need to be calling those "Dems" out on the carpet for that one.

It's sort of the Nixon approach. Gordie's saying "I am not a Republican".

I hope that the electorate is smart enough not to fall for it.
